Hullo there! Well, I'm glad you came to check out my new fic, did you know that?! XP By the way, it won't be long like AUA will, so don't worry about the discontinuation of it this week. Sooo... lesee here. I've got the summary here in case you need to know what it's about. And... I dunno what else to say... Enjoy? XD
The world had felt like a completely different perspective to Jake… It was as if every memory had become something that just comes and goes, or it would all be there one day then become all but a giant blur in the next. His own outlook put all this out; one by a thirteen-year-old boy like himself. It was queer to wonder its dangers and risks, or just the thought of being in it itself. The world was self-explanatory and obvious, other times it was just hard to become aware of. Those words had raced through his mind.
At the corner of his eye, he had let out a soft gasp, turning himself around. Circling him were three different colored lights that looked like pastel comets blending in the atmosphere. He heard a murmur that had come from a girl about his age. Jake almost shivered at the thought of this ominous feeling… The voice slowly faded and had quickly turned into a piercing, sharp cry. He turned around worriedly… but before he could move a muscle, the ground shook furiously. It was so enraged that he couldn’t support himself into a combat or standstill stance. Jake could only feel the surface that had quaked and his vision hazy. Still struggling to get to his feet, his eyes shot open and he watched as the land was separated like fractured exteriors of ice in the winter.
“Help me… somebody,” was all the teenager could hear. The same voice he had heard sounded like an incoherent cry for help. With horror building up inside, he had slowly made his way to the other side, trying to be as careful as he ever have with his creeping. Jake was about to shake her gently to question her for the reason being in his area. But before he even could, an immortal figure had appeared right before his eyes. He felt vulnerable right away, as if he couldn’t do anything. But oddly, all it ever did was enclose him. He stopped to think, assuming it were a phoenix-like creature soaring above him. By an earshot, he heard a detonation that had built to a crescendo and quickly inoculated. The being had disappeared rapidly. Covering his head with his arms, Jake was about to open his mouth to call out for the person but he had lost his balance and had planted his hands on the ground firmly, not having enough support to stay up. Before everything had been engulfed to black, Jake heard a murmur that was incomprehensible… it already seemed inexplicable, as these very strange words had slipped out of someone’s tongue.
“Disenchantment…”
All of that, though, had turned to out to have been a very horrendous nightmare as Jake sat up, his breathing heavy and unsteady. He had thought to himself why this imagination had clouded his thoughts, but he had quickly forgotten while the thirteen-year-old stared at the clock, rushing out of his own bed to realize that he was almost late for school.
“Weird dream? Why am I not surprised?” Trixie spoke allegedly as the three made their way to school that day. It was as if this were all some ludicrous, unsurprising conundrum. So it was a dream, she thought. Why would it all be that big of a deal?
“It wasn’t just some freaky nightmare,” said Jake, placing his fingers together as he fidgeted, “Okay… so… it kind of was… but… what if it’s a dream of the future?”
“Dream of the future, huh? Sounds like a mind-reader to me,” the mystified Spud had spoken aloud without even stopping to think.
“I don’t even know,” Jake mumbled, scratching his head. “But I have this strange intuition that it might be…”
After school that day, the boy had decided to take a momentary stroll around New York City. Though Jake had ventured around this same place more than a thousand times, he decided to glance about on the other hand. The thought of exploring something new around the city sounded almost astounding to them. After all, he’s been having these strange thoughts how he’s always speculated that something’s just missing in his life; you know, at least after Rose disappeared and he lost contact with her. Jake was just making a serene, peaceful saunter around the area, making his way through Manhattan. He had passed through 42nd Street to City Hall—passing Broadway along the way—then crossed the Brooklyn Bridge before he stopped to take a break. (A/N: All of the places I’m listing throughout this chapter are true places in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Staten Island in New York.)
He made his way near East River, watching the colors of the sky blend all over the body of water where he sat nearby. Out of boredom, he ran his finger through the cool liquid. With a silent sigh of content, he looked up at the sky blue atmosphere. Jake knew that his friends insisted that he went alone, but he still wished that Trixie and Spud would take the time to actually appreciate the surroundings through NYC.
When he felt that he had the energy to be able to continue walking without a problem, he pulled himself up. Because of his lack of common sense, he just realized that he had dragon powers. Why didn’t I think of that? And with that, he ran towards an alleyway through a place called Prospect Park; it wasn’t as great as the actual Central Park in Manhattan, but you have to appreciate the sites that are provided in the Brooklyn borough too. Jake let a quick sensation build inside him then morphed from human to dragon, taking flight promptly so none of the residents would notice. With such success, Jake continued his leisure while soaring up the sky. This helped him pass through skyscrapers and the municipality with such ease. As the American Dragon, it was pretty much his duty to make a search around NYC anyway. Though it had a metropolis much larger than most places in America, being a dragon such as Jake made things run more efficiently.
Still dashing around the air gracefully, Jake had rapidly made his way above Brooklyn’s many attractions but almost got a little sidetracked when he realized that he had passed through Bensonhurst district. He fixed his mistakenly accidental detour and made his way towards east to the Bay Ridge locality. Though he had only flown for an hour or two, Jake already felt the need to take a break, so he beat his wings slowly and landed in a secrete area near the Verrazano Narrows Bridge. He morphed back to human form then continued his efficient ‘exercise’ by walking—or running—through the bridge and making his way to the next county called Staten Island. Taking yet another temporary pause, Jake had found himself near the borderline of The Narrows and Upper New York Bay.
Before Jake could make a single step, he heard a soft whimper that came from across the bay. “Who’s… there?” His voice was almost inaudible to perceive, but continued on anyway. He proceeded forward and heard the cry getting louder and louder by the second, his eyes growing worried. “Ear of the dragon,” he whispered even more calmly. Standing at the edge of the bay, Jake’s eyes grew even more concerned. The words he thought that had formed were, “Why won’t anybody help me?” With the look of fear and distress forming by the second, Jake had no choice but dragoned up once again and flew above the seemingly large body of water; this wasn’t the time to worry if people noticed a dragon in their site.
“Hello? Is anybody here calling for help?” Jake was confused on what to say and kept flying around until he saw someone at the corner of his eye. With a soft gasp, he flew over in a hasty manner, reverting back to human when he approached a girl that was about her age, planting her hands on the ground in a very undersized island. Actually, she seemed about eleven or twelve while her golden blonde hair ran down to her waist smoothly. Her cerulean blue eyes showed tears that had formed from probably a long time ago. He fearfully walked over, hearing the young girl sniffle. “Hey, a-are you okay?”
The girl had stopped crying, drying her eyes as looked up at Jake with unhappiness, who had managed to give a small smile as he lend a hand. “I’m okay,” She replied after a long period of silence. “I just… I… I’m…” She couldn’t form the correct words to let everything out. Jake seemed very understanding, though, as he still held out his hand. She then took it with thankfulness showing in her eyes as he helped her up gingerly. He examined the girl, looking at her badly cut bruises, scars, and scratches.
“I’m sorry, would you like some help?” Jake asked with concern. The girl nodded slowly, using her finger to pull a small strand of hair back.
“Well, I apologize for not talking,” She said softly, “My name’s Sarah…”
“Oh, uh… nice to meet you Sarah. My name’s Jake,” He replied after.
“Nice to meet you too…”
They both had a little awkwardness in the silence that formed, but a sudden thought had struck Jake in the head. “Say, do you remember where you came from?”
Sarah stopped and thought for a moment. “I think I do… I was running from this… guy… uh…”
“Guy? Was he after you?” Jake asked. She nodded. “Do you remember why?”
“Uh… no… I don’t remember,” She blinked slowly, “I vaguely remember a thing and…” She paused, closing her eyes. She could feel pain building up inside; or at least it felt like it… Jake looked over at her with concern.
“Are you okay?”
She shook her head gradually. “Never mind… I thought something just came into me.”
“So… you don’t remember a single thing?”
“Nope, not a single clue. I don’t even have a place to stay.” Sarah sounded a little ashamed by that. “Is it… you know… okay if I stayed somewhere… at least for a few days?”
“Consider it done,” Jake grinned politely, “Unless you’re not alright with staying at my Grandpa’s shop… are you?”
“It doesn’t really matter.” Sarah said, “As long as I have some place to stay with a little hospitality, I’ll do alright.”
“Then I’ll take you there now.” He said, never losing the respectfulness in his voice. Jake seemed almost completely surprised and impressed about how he had treated Sarah; he never really thought of himself as a totally super nice person. Then again, he hasn’t really helped out in a while. Jake’s been trying to improve a little anyway. “Wait,” He realized, “I wonder how we’re going to get home.” Jake had totally forgotten to stop and think if she was a magical creature herself or a human who thinks mythology is a deranged topic.
“Well…” She said slowly. “I do know one way we could get home.”
Jake’s ears had seemed to have perked up in curiosity and excitement. “How?”
Uhhhmm... yeah, it was boring. XD But oh well... I hope it was good, though. I've been trying to improve my writing a little more... again. Erh... well, I gotta get back to homework now. If you're on MSN, pleeaase im me if you'd like.
