For my Loyal followers who are enjoying ‘Long Days Of Fire’ It has been hard to keep updating, since uni started. Rest assured that I will continue updating that, It is just very difficult with such long chapters, so It will take A while. In the meantime, while you wait, here is another story series, About Atecom the Dragon, Shorter chapters and more frequent updates for this story, and I promise I will Update LDOF when I can.
(All characters in this story are entirely fictional, and any basis on real life is entirely coincidental)
Chapter 1- Tears Of a lonely past
Hey Im Atecom and I’m A dragon, I am also one of the loneliest souls on this planet, an outcast, doomed to drift around this lonely planet, each day passing, only achieving getting one day closer to the time I die. But it wasn’t always like this, well arguably it was. I never got to know my grandfather, he had been killed and his cause of death had been made all but a mystery to me for 16 long years its 2 years since I found out, but let me start at my first day of high school.
I was unable to make many friends at school. For some reason, I just didn’t seem to fit in with the crowd. I thought Primary school was harsh. I had seen nothing, I didn’t even know about my dragon heritage at the time. I wasn’t atheletic, I was lazy, I was as they braded me, a loser. Who’s They? The pupils, my peers would never let me forget that they were better then me at everything. I was the centre of all jokes at school, people would steal my stuff, vandalise my stuff. They also used the fact, that although I’m big, I am docile, to their advantage. They would attack me at any given point, once they even got out a video camera to film their horrible acts. The worst of them, the kid that everyone seemed to follow, a tall redhead named Joseph Nerk.
Joseph Nerk was from a good family, they were rich, they were also masters of Pranks, most of which were aimed at me, He had a little brother, Fred, Who acted much the same way as he did. It seemed to be their life goal to mike mine a living hell.
Then Came the time on my 13th Birthday, I found out I could become a dragon. Apparently, the Dragon council was focusing on someone else in Australia who was a ‘more important’ Dragon, so they couldn’t train me. From the time I first dragoned up, I had to teach myself the necessary skills for a dragon. I also learned that my Grandfather was a dragon at this time, and I became obsessed with his works. I began to read them every day. They talked of hope, of power, of purity and he had some interesting stories. My mother told me that he was an adventurer and that he kept several chronicles of his adventures. I read them often, Wishing that I could leave the hell of school and go out for some glory. But that wasn’t possible, I needed an education. Sometimes those books were the only things that kept me from giving up on the world completely and doing something stupid.
The others taunts would ring in my mind. It seemed that I had nobody on my side. Then came Schwayne.

Chapter 2- To stand up for a mate
My grandfather once wrote: ‘You know how much you need a friend, when you find yourself in a position where you need an ally’ He was apparently, very wise. Well I won’t go into my hard high school life in great detail, Well, If you wanted to see problems in high school, you would go there, and school is not the most fitting subject to talk about for entertainment. But I guess what is important for you to know, that at a time, when I felt the world was against me, We got a new student in our school. His name was Schwayne Cameron. Of course maybe he was a little nervous starting a new school, that may be why he chose to talk to me at that moment, cause I was all alone and un-daunting, but he came to me, when I was all alone and introduced himself. I was a little nervous, because years of being antisocial had taken its effect on my social skills, so talking to people was something I wasn’t good at. From that time on, we became friends. He even stood up for me against Joe Nerk when he inflicted his usual pranks upon me. I know to stand up against the popularity of the school on the first day, must be a very difficult thing to do but not only did he stand up for me, he made Joe look like a tool in front of the entire school.
I went home from school that day happy, for the first time in my life. I had a friend, who stood up for me, on his very first day. Not only that, but I found that he lived in the same street as me. He was very nice, not like the people in the world I had come to know. I began to wonder if maybe only Dragons were nice. I thought to myself that maybe this guy could be the Mysterious Australian Dragon. He liked to talk a lot. That’s ok because I was a very introvert person and therefore I was happy listening. My theory of him being the Australian Dragon was dashed when he told me that he was from The United States. I began to think, maybe there is good in humanity after all.
When we arrived at our street, my house was first. I bade him a fond farewell, as he lived up the other side of the street. I entered my house, It was a small redbrick house. My mum, looked up as I entered.
“Go put your things down in your room, I have something important to tell you” She instructed. I followed these orders then I returned.
“What is it Mum” I asked
“I have some very bad News” she replied “A section of the infamous hunts clan has migrated to Australia from America and will start hunting here…”

Chapter 3- Welcome to the start of the rest of my life
Ive always thought that a mystery should be left for something that is mysterious. I won’t try to cover it up, I won’t try to make you guess because I assume it would be obvious. Schwayne was part of the hunts clan. Of course, at that moment in time, it was still a mystery to me. My life began changing once again on my 14th Birthday and since then it has never changed back. It was as usual a fairly lonely birthday. Well this time, I had one extra person over, Schwayne. We sat down playing computer all day, my lack of social life meant that I had become quite a sharpshooter in first person games.
That took up nearly the whole day, but then Schwayne’s Phone began ringing.
“Oh sorry, Dud, I uh.. got some really important work at home that really needs doing, Sorry, I really got to go”
I was a little disappointed, but I guessed that something was really urgent, so I allowed him to leave.
“Aright mate seeyas later.”
I played computer a little more, but it got boring, fast, so I decided to go out flying. There was a nice blue sky over Sydney, very little wind or turbulence. I got up to the roof of the house, and looked carefully to ensure that nobody was watching me, then when the coast was clear, I took off. It wasn’t long before I was high above the outer suburbia of Sydney, I decided to head towards the CBD. Flying had become like a tedious repetitious task, I could pull it off in my sleep by now. I watched as I flew over the maze of houses, people very small, the peak hour traffic clogging up Sydney’s poorly constructed roads.
Something in the distance caught my attention. It looked like another air craft. I had to be careful as I didn’t want anybody seeing me. I decided to follow it at a great distance, but as I got closer, and the craft became clearer, it didn’t much look like an aircraft after all, but It looked like a dragon! I confirmed that it was a dragon, after getting a very clear view of it. This dragon seemed to fly with such order, it flew vewry well almost militaristic. I drew ever closer, it still hadn’t noticed me. I was about to wave or call out to it, when suddenly a net came out of nowhere, covered the other dragon and pulled him down to the ground.
“It happened so quickly, I was very shocked. Once I regained my composure, I still Couldn’t decide what to do. I then figured that the right thing to so would probably be to go down and help free the dragon, after all it could have been captured by the huntsclan. I had heard horror stories from creatures, who had nearly fallen at the hands of the Huntsclan. They were seriously some bad dudes. I navigated myself to turn around, then dive to the ground approximately at the place that the other dragon was pulled to the ground with the net. It was a forest of some kind, I landed in a small clearing. All was quiet, I could hear several birds, and in the distrance I heard the call of a Kookaburra, which these days was rare in Sydney even in a forest. I heard a bush nearby move. I spun to look around at it. Suddenly from nowhere, a weighted Net came flying, hitting me and knocking me to the ground, covering me and capturing. I immediately struggled, but the more I struggled, the more entangled I became. When I finally calmed down, I looked around. There was a circle of masked figures around me, their eyes all glowing red.

Chapter 4- Short Captivity
I was really spooked out at that point, I was at the mercy of the infamous huntsclan, and whats worse, there seemed to be nothing I could do about it.
Suddenly one of the hooded figures stepped forward. "Hmmm another dragon?" He chuckled as he laughed.
I was very submissive. at that point I was frozen. I couldn't think of what to do. THank god I could only think in three and a half dimentions, or else I would have totally flipped. The hooded figure out the front called fourth another hooded figure who carefully began pulling the ropes which held me. I was being dragged along the ground. Then they dragged me up a ramp into some sort of craft. Inside it was dark, but what was more annoying was that I was getting friction burns from being dragged.
I have no Idea why, but for some reason I called "d**n it, Let me out!!" as if that would bring any salvation. I thought I heard the guy in the mask laugh at me, as we continued deeper into the hold of the ship. Then we came to a row of cells. The hooded huntsclan member pulled me inside. Then he stood by the door and pulled another rope, which lossened the net. Immediately after, he pressed a button, which shut the door and locked me in. He then called over to another guard.
"Hey, Huntsmaster apprentice" He yelled, another member then came into view. He was a teenager about my age I noticed then, at that moment, I still had no idea who he was though.
"Come and guard these 2 dragons in their cells"
"Oh d**n, I get all the dumb jobs" the aprentice replied. I was sure I recognised his voice. It sounded a little like someone I knew, Just a little deeper. He walked over and stood in front of my cell.
A voice piped up from the cell next to mine. "Hey, Huntsguy Im a gonna eat you." I looked through the bars of my cell, into the next cell. There was a blue and red dragon there. The hunts apprentice remained silent.
"Are you the Australian Dragon?" I asked kind of feebly.
"Ya, the one and only" he replied. I was sure I knew his voice as well. Maybe I was just going crazy from captivity.
"So you have been trained by a council approved trainer?" I asked again
"No Duh" He replied sarcastically. "Its obvious you go to school, you can work things out"
"Uh Ok sorry" I replied
"And what the hell was that anyway?" He asked
"What?" I replied
"You must have been as stupid as you look, to just stumble into an obvious Hunts clan trap like that."
"I... I" I stuttered, I didn't know what to say, The Australian dragon was such a jerk. "I was just trying to help you"
"The day I get helped, by an incompitent dragon like you is the day, you actually get any skills. That possibility is o"
I just remained silent. Screw him. I try to help him, and he just turns on me.
"Now watch a compitent dragon save us."
He picks up the rope that held him and called the apprentice over. He waited for him to come over, keeping the rope concealed. The Apprentice had just reached the outside of the cage and was about to ask "What"? When suddenly as quick as a flash, The Australian dragon had pulled the rope out put it around the back of the apprentices neck, then with a single, forceful move, smacked his head against the bars. The guy was knocked out. He then bent over and searched his pocket for a key. Apon finding the key, he unlocks the door.
"Well I may as well save you as well, considering you such a poor fool, and probably would be to dumb to do anything yourself."
I got a little angry inside when I heard this, but I kept quiet, after all, this dragon was setting me free. He unlocked my door and I stepped out. I began walking towards the front door.
"Oh Great what stupid thing are you going to do now, Walk out that door where the rest of the huntsclan are? Thats really logical." he taunted
I just stopped "Well where did you want to go?"
Come on, Lets fly up and break through this window. The only source of natural light in the room was a skylite above our heads. I had to admit it was a good plan, wed be gone before the huntsclan knew what happened.
"We have to be quick now" He instructed.
We both flew up and he went first, going through the sky light head first, breaking it. I quickly followed.
"Ha ha Through the window and away", he called.
"Its a skylight idiot" I answered defiantly
"Hey, don't let me catch you be a smartarse again or else Im a gonna clobber you" He warned. Then started flying off.
I flew in the opposite direction. I couldn't stand to be anywhere near that Jerk.

Chapter 5- Training Begins
As you can guess I was pretty miffed about some of my stupid decisions. The Australian Dragon may be a jerk, but he was right, I lacked the fighting skills and abilities. It was on the day after, when I was lying on my bed, thinking about the events of the day before, that I decided to start some serious training. I didn’t need no dragon council approved trainer, My grandfather would train me. How? Through his books. I got up, then went to my study. I spent the rest of the day looking through the books. His tales of his quests were great, but I needed one of his manuals for dragon training. I looked across the shelf. I still hadn’t read all the books there.
I stepped over to a book I did not recognize. Titled-‘External Energy With the Talented Mind’ I opened it. On the first page, my grandfather had wrote a thesis for the entire book. ‘With the correct amount of concentration, one can focus their energy beyond their physical self, and if enough, can use it to inflict damage upon a foe.’
‘This looks interesting’ I thought to myself, as I took the book outside and began to read it.
The next day was Monday, It was back to school. I no longer feared school, the other students taunts just fell on deaf ears. But Schwayne wasn’t at school that morning. ‘Damn, he must be sick’ I guessed. I didn’t worry too much I still didn’t care about the other students. Joseph was there as harsh as ever, but I took little notice of anything he said. I went straight to the library and concentrated, just like it said in the book. It was nice and quiet in the library, therefore getting alone time was not difficult. That’s why I spent a lot of time there. Unfortunately, during the midst of my self training, I fell asleep. I missed the first two classes. I didn’t really care, I had to train myself, to be able to beat the Australian dragon. I decided to skip school that day altogether. I turned dragon behind the library where nobody could see me. I took off in the trees and flew high. ‘I guess ill fly out west’ I thought to myself. I look at society below the cars weaving through the streets. I decide to practice quick flying. I decide to practice diving, then leveling off, just before I hit the ground. I dived, then pretty much went into freefall. I was late spreading my wings, so I rounded off too bluntly and I hit the ground.
“Owww” I said to myself. I still need practice.
My head hurt. I looked around, I was in a field. Everything seemed to be quiet. Then from nowhere I thought I heard a voice. It was soft and shrill and I couldn’t hear it properly. I listened carefully, and sure enough, there was the sound again. I could identify it this time, it was a small cry for help..

Spyder- My first time reviewers get a reward, I put them or their character in my stories, Amdragon has already been in dragons and glory (and he dies) Ironhand will Be in Long Days of fire (He will also be in a later Atecom story), So Spyder, I will put you in one of the Atecom the dragon stories, Maybe not the first but one of them. (There are 4 Planned)
Chapter 6- Ye Olde Dragon
I looked around, the cry seemed to be coming from behind the bushes to the south of me. I crawled on my hands and knees towards the sound, maybe someone or something was in trouble that I could have aided. The cry sounded again, a little louder this time, as I crept closer to the place that it was coming from. The birds that had constantly sang, had now seemed to cease singing their melody, now leaving the place in a very creepy and mysterious silence. I finally crawled up to the bushes and I parted them, so that I could look through.
Just then, I realized one of my greatest fears. There was the huntsclan, holding several Leprechauns captive. There was no Australian dragon around, I would have to face the huntsclan alone.
I watched as one of the apprentices was given a glowing green staff, that would be the tool which he would utilize to carry out the slaying of the poor leprechauns. I had to act and quick. I steadied myself, ready to jump up. I then jumped out as quick as I could, but unfortunately the soil around the bushes was loose, so I ended up slipping and falling forward.
“Dragon!!!” I heard the huntsclan shout. Several zapped me with their staff. The energy did not seem to be as big as it normally was, they must have set their staffs onto stun, but it still hurt nevertheless. I then started to concentrate. I realized that the only way to save myself now was to focus my energy externally. Once I could do that, I could inflict large amounts of damage without coming into contact with them. I focused all I could. I closed my eyes. I felt the energy flow into my claws.
‘Im doing it’ I thought excitedly as I opened my eyes, the excitement making me lose my concentration. I watched in despair as I see but a small spark I had created fizzle into nothing, just before I am covered by a net.
The huntsclan made a circle around me. I began to breath heavily. I couldn’t think of what to do.
“Now we will not make the same mistake as before, we slay this dragon here and now” The Australian huntsmaster said menacingly. This was followed by a cheer from the followers.
“Young apprentice, step forward and do your duty, SLAY YOUR FIRST DRAGON.”
The young teen who had nearly slain the leprechaun moved closer, with the staff glowing brightly green. I looked down in despair. I needed someone, anyone, even, Yes even The Australian Dragon, of course he would be a real jerk afterwards, but I at least would get to keep my life.
The hunts apprentice raised the staff. Suddenly as quick as a flash, a stream of fire knocked the staff out of his hands.
“Ow My hands” The apprentice yelled, in his natural voice, no longer the deep masked voice he once used. I could have sworn that I knew that voice, but I just couldn’t think where.
Nearby, a long thin tawny dragon landed.
“Oh, not you!!!” The huntsmaster shouted. “Everybody Run!!!”
I was amazed that the huntsclan seemed to fear this dragon, that they would run away from him. I had no idea who he was, I was just greatful that he came and saved me (and a little relieved that he wasn’t the Australian Dragon.) I was soon in for a greater shock. Once the huntsclan had entirely routed, he came over and freed my ropes.
“Hello there young one, In a spot of trouble I see?” He asked in a deep voice.
“Man I screwed up again” I burst out.
“Mistakes are our best tool for learning, Experience is the hardest teacher, she gives the test first, then the lessons afterwards.”
“I just wish I did less learning and more ass-kicking”
“In time young one. It sounds as if you are not as strong as you wish you were.”
“You can say that again”
“What is your name?”
“Atecom”
He stopped for a moment mouth open. “Your Atecom? Grandson of Spartius?” I stopped “You know about me, and my grandfather?” I gasped amazed. “How?”
“Oh this is a great honour. Follow me, I have just the thing you are looking for.”
I stood there for a moment. The creepy old tawny dragon, who seemed to know about me and my grandfather wanted me to follow him. We could be going anywhere, but I guess to be honest, he kind of intrigued me. I decided to follow him. I felt like my life could change again.
