Um... hi there (Meek little wave)
First off, despite what my new name is, this is DragonFire13 (Points at personal text). Thankfully my parents felt guilty and let me sign back up, so I will be able to complete TDL.
Unfortunately, my little sister went and deleted the file, so I had to copy and past it back to Microsoft from this thread... hopefully chapter 10 will be posted soon!

Chapter 10: Out of the Frying Pan
Raffi burst through her kitty door into the kitchen, her claws scrabbling wildly on the smooth tile surface beneath her paws. She ran to Miranda, mewling desperately. She crouched over her motionless owner, gently licking her cheek as Jake picked the lock of the door with his claw.
“Someone really needs to teach that cat how to open doors,” he grunted, pushing the door open.
Rose cautiously stepped around Jake, gasping when she saw Miranda lying motionless on the floor, her face pale, her sides rising and falling faintly as she breathed. “Miranda!”
The other girl moaned weakly. Rose ran to her side, gently kneeling next to her. “Miranda?” she whispered. “Miranda, you have to get up.” Gently, she rested a hand on Miranda’s shoulder. “Mindy, come on.”
Raffi mewed softly, pressing her nose to Miranda’s cheek. IronHand’s eyes widened when he saw Miranda’s motionless form, and he started to go to her, but a look from Lao Shi stopped him. “Don’t,” the older dragon said. “But…” “She will be fine. Let Rose tend to her.”
IronHand looked uncertain, but made no move to join Rose, deciding it was best to follow Lao Shi’s advice.
Rose gently lowered her hand to Miranda’s mouth, feeling the gentle puffs of air against her palm. Raffi mewled softly, pressing close to Rose. Gently Rose rubbed her head. “Don’t worry, girl,” she murmured. “Mindy’s gonna be fine.” Pulling her hand away from the cat, Rose reached into her pouch, removing a small necklace. From the chain dangled a pendant, pink in color, giving off a gentle, sweet odor. Rose lowered the pendant, beneath Miranda’s nose, opening her friend’s mouth slightly so she could inhale the scent.
Miranda’s eyes flew open with a gasp as the sweet scent swirled around her head, sitting up violently, her eyes wide. “Okay, okay!” she cried, pushing the pendant away. “I’m awake, I’m awake!”
Rose chuckled, gently tucking the pendant away as Raffi bounded past her into Miranda’s arms, purring loudly. “Works every time,” she teased. Miranda smiled weakly, stroking Raffi’s back as Rose helped her to her feet; she wobbled for a moment, but took steps towards Jake and IronHand. “Hi,” she said, smiling weakly.
IronHand smiled in return, delighted that she was okay. “Hi. You okay?” Miranda shrugged. “A little woozy, but…” her eyes widened. “Oh, no.” “What?” “Mom,” Miranda whispered.
Lao Shi looked at the girl worriedly. “What are you talking about?” “Mom! She… she… she was trying… oh, God…”
Cracks began to web along the walls of the house; dust began to fly, and without thinking IronHand, Jake, and Lao Shi pulled Rose and Miranda close, shielding them as the house collapsed all around them, letting out what sounded like a groan of defeat as it crumbled to the ground. Raffi wheezed as dust coated her, shaking her head, her tail lashing irritably, pawing at her eyes.
A dark shadow fell over them, and Selena’s insane cackling tore through their ears as realization hit them.
End chapter 10
Y'know that saying, "Out of the frying pan, into the fire"? Well, guess what just happened...

Chapter 11: Into the Fire
If appearances were any indication, Darkfire should never have been killed. He looked very much the same as he had last time Jake, Rose, and IronHand had faced him, except now a dark scar slashed across his chest, where Jake as the Light Dragon, Kage, had slashed him in the first battle. Selena stood off to the side, her red hair lashing wildly around her pale face like flames, giving her a demonic, crazed look, which was only further completed by the murderous gleam in her venomous green eyes.
The fur along Raffi’s neck and shoulders bristled, and she dug her claws into Miranda’s arm, hissing. Miranda’s grip on her cat tightened, fearing that Raffi would spring from her grasp and try to claw Selena, or worse, Darkfire.
“I thought we killed him,” IronHand said faintly, looking up at Darkfire. “We did.” Rose’s voice was firm. “But this time, we’ll make sure he stays dead.”
Darkfire chuckled, and the dark sound made Rose’s legs weak. “Last I saw you, little one, you were dead to. Do you wish for me to make sure you stay dead this time?”
Darkfire’s arm was a blur of red; Jake barely had time to grip Rose and pull her on his back, flare his wings, and shoot into the sky as the demon’s claws raked the earth they had been standing on only moments ago. Lao Shi shot into the air like a dark blue bullet.
IronHand made a move to grab Miranda and pull her to safety, but as he reached for her a beam of red magic smashed into his chest. He was thrown roughly into one of the few walls that remained standing of Miranda’s home; he crashed through it and fell, moaning weakly.
“KELLEN!”
With a yowl, Raffi launched herself out of Miranda’s grasp, racing like a small shadow to IronHand. Miranda whipped around to face her mother; Selena’s face was smug, and a ball of red energy bounced against the palm of her hand. Miranda’s fingertips sparked with black energy. Selena smirked.
“Come on, Mindy. Make Mommy proud.”
And with that, she shot a beam of red magic straight at her daughter.

Jake’s heart pounded dangerously against his chest as he dove, avoiding another swipe from Darkfire. The demon seemed much faster then he had been in the first battle; Jake could barely land a shot on him. Rose’s arms tightened around his neck, and she flattened herself against him to avoid a blow.
“I know he was fast,” she gasped, “but when was he this fast?!” “It must have been that spell Selena used to revive him,” Jake replied. “It must have made him faster and stronger then before!” “Damn…”
Lao Shi whipped around Darkfire’s arm, shooting a fire ball at the demon, which he easily dodged. Jake dove down as IronHand flung a car at the demon. The car smashed into Darkfire’s face, making him roar and stagger back, but as he wiped smoke from his face, he was grinning. Jake blanched, quite an accomplishment given his dragon form.
“We’re dead.” “You’re so cheerful,” Rose muttered.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Miranda didn’t think; she didn’t have time. She whipped up a shield of black magic. Her mother’s red energy beam collided with it head-on. Miranda forced herself not to shrink away; even the smallest distraction would shatter her hold on her magic. She wasn’t nearly as skilled as Selena, only a beginner. Already cracks were beginning to web along the shield, and Miranda took a step back, forced back by Selena’s continuous blasts. Her body trembled with the effort of retaining the shield.
Raffi yowled, and Miranda only had a moment to glance down as her cat streaked past her.
“Raffi!”
The cat leaped, ignoring Miranda’s cry, and with a hiss buried her teeth into Selena’s arm. Selena screamed, jerking her arm back, and the red magic evaporated. Smoke drifted silently into the air.
Miranda was a beginner, but she saw her chance when she had one. “Raffi, release!” she ordered. The cat immediately dropped to the ground, racing between Selena’s legs. Miranda gritted her teeth, shifting her magic from defensive to offensive in the time her mother was distracted by Raffi.
A beam of black magic smashed into Selena’s chest; the older woman was caught off guard by the attack and had no time to formulate a counter-attack. Pain smashed through her, and then nothing at all.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
For Miranda, time seemed to freeze.
Horror and shock swept through her in a wave, and she could not move, rooted to the ground. And although she knew she should check on Selena, she knew there was no reason.
Selena was dead.

Chapter 12: Legacy of the Dark Servant
Something shifted.
The shift itself was subtle, invisible, not a physical shift but more of a spiritual shift, a shift in the balance of nature.
As Selena’s body hit the ground, Darkfire seemed to falter. His gaze dimmed slightly, and he paused, as though confused, looking around. His eyes retained the unusual dimness, and taking advantage of it, Jake and Lao Shi dove to the ground; IronHand ran to Miranda, who ran to meet him. Raffi wound around their legs, purring loudly.
“What’s wrong with him?” Rose asked, sliding off Jake’s back. They all gazed at the stunned Darkfire, taken aback by the momentary weakness. Miranda’s brow furrowed. “I don’t know,” Jake murmured, equally as surprised as she was. Miranda chewed her lip, thinking hard. What was it her mother always used to say about Dark Servants? Something about a connection…
“Because of the bond of blood a Dark Servant shares with Darkfire, everything that he feels, we feel. If we die, he is weakened…”
Miranda’s eyes widened as understanding dawned.
“It’s because of my mom.” Her voice shook, and they all turned to her. “Dark Servants are bound to Darkfire by blood. When a Dark Servant is killed, or dies, Darkfire suffers a temporary weakness.” She lifted her head, tossing her short black hair behind her shoulder. “You have to kill him. Now. This might be your only chance.” Rose blinked. “Bound by blood?” “Yeah. So that Dark Servants stayed loyal to him. How do you think my family served him for generations?”
Lao Shi’s ear flicked uneasily, even as delight lit the faces of his young companions—all but Miranda. Her head slowly bowed, and she bit her lip, seeming to fight back tears.
“Miranda,” he said softly. She looked up at him, her dark brown eyes shining. Her lips trembled, and her face was pale.
“Miranda, if a Dark Servant’s death weakens Darkfire because of the binding of blood, what happens to Dark Servants when he is killed?”
The delight slowly died on the faces of Jake, Rose, and IronHand as they absorbed Lao Shi’s question, slowly being replaced with worry and apprehension. Raffi pressed her body to Miranda’s legs, mewing softly, comfortingly, and IronHand gently touched Miranda’s shoulder.
“Miranda?” he asked shakily.
Slowly she raised her gaze to meet his, her eyes sorrowful, and despite the worry in his face she forced herself not to look away. She took a deep, shuddering breath, wrapping her arms around her belly.
“If Darkfire is killed…” she swallowed hard, and a single tear streaked her cheek. “… if he is killed, Dark Servants will die.” More tears slowly ran down her cheeks, and she looked at the ground, shaking.
“I will die.”
