AN: The reason for the delay? Well, Lloyd and Dragonfan123 submitted new characters so I had to find a way to write them in. ^^;
Chapter 3
“Remind me again why we’re doing this.”
Ash’s voice was sharp and irritated, rather amusing in its own right since she was currently in dragon form. Raffi was perched beside her, also in dragon form, while Veronika sniffed below in wolf form, trying to find Ariana’s scent.
“Because Veronika can’t resist taking strays in,” Raffi murmured, yawning and stretching her wings. A soft woof from the wolf below indicated the other girl had heard the comment, but Raffi just grinned and waved when Veronika glared over her shoulder, shifting back into human form. “She’s close,” the other girl declared. “Came by here recently.” “Wonder where she was going,” Ash murmured.
Veronika shrugged before shifting back into wolf form, trotting on. Raffi and Ash glided easily after her, keeping their eyes trained on her yellow fur.
She came to a stop suddenly, causing the dragons to nearly fly over her. The fur along her shoulders and back was beginning to bristle. “Veronika?” Raffi called. “What’s wrong?”
Before she had a chance to shift back into human form and reply, a silver shape shot out of the shadows, tackling the wolf and dragging her roughly into the darkness. Veronika nearly yelped, but a clawed hand closed around her muzzle and she found herself gazing into flaming green eyes. “You idiot! What do you think you’re doing?”
In the back of her mind Veronika realized she was face-to-face with Ariana. She whimpered softly as the silver dragon released her muzzle, glaring as Raffi and Ash flew down. “What the hell are you doing here?” “Trying to find you!”
Ariana—now under the alias of her dragon name, Redemption—glared. “I can handle myself,” she spat. “And as it is, your wolf friend nearly got herself killed!” “What do you mean?” Veronika whispered, back in human form. Redemption snarled in frustration, grabbing the other girl’s arm and steering her towards the street. “Look,” she hissed. “Look, but don’t leave the shadows. What do you see?”
The other three girls peered into the street. A whole squad of men and women were marching in total sync, dressed in dark brown from head to foot, their eyes trained resolutely ahead, Hunts-Staffs by their side. Ash exhaled shakily. “Huntsclan?” “Not just any Huntsclan.” Redemption’s voice was soft. “They are the Huntsclan Elite, formed by the Huntsman a few years ago. They are the best of the best, and can hunt and kill with no remorse. My Dragon Master was slain by one of them. It seems the Huntsman has moved them into New York City.”
Ash and Raffi swallowed hard while Veronika gaped, understanding what she’d almost walked into. Even from a distance, the Elite didn’t look human; their bodies were straight and stiff, their shoulders taught, their eyes focused and glassy. Something was missing from them, something even a Huntsclan member had.
One of the members tilted his head slightly; Redemption’s ears swiveled forward. “Oh, crap,” she whispered. “What?” “No time for questions. RUN!”
At that moment, the Elite almost seemed to break rank; they charged the four girls crouched in the shadows. Veronika gasped.
Muscles coiled beneath silver scales, and with a roar of rage Redemption surged forward, slashing right into the heart of the Elite. Raffi and Ash gaped for a moment, but Veronika was already going dragon. “She can’t fight them alone!” she cried, diving in after the silver dragon. “Veronika!” Raffi pleaded, but it was to late, and exchanging looks with Ash they both dove into the fight.
Even as the fight began they knew it was hopeless; the Elite largely outnumbered the small group of dragons, though they were fighting for their worth, but the Elite members seemed to be everywhere; stabbing at Ash, slashing at Raffi, attacking from every angle with their Staffs.
One Staff made direct contact with Ash’s wing; a roar of rage escaped her, and she stumbled back as blood gushed from the wound and spilled onto the snow-covered street. Redemption was pinned down by two members, trying desperately to buck them off but with no success. Raffi and Veronika were back-to-back, pinned with no where to go.
We’re going to die.
The thought burned its way into Redemption’s mind, and she whimpered.
Suddenly, twin roars ripped through the air. The Elite froze. Ash, Raffi, and Veronika looked around wildly. Redemption’s eyes widened, then narrowed.
Two dragons swirled through the air, diving into the fight with wings flared and claws extended. One dragon was green, the other a darker red then Jake and covered in scars. The Elite scattered at the invasion; the red dragon flew to Redemption, cutting the ropes that held her down before smiling charmingly. “Miss me?” “Like a hole in the head,” Redemption muttered, flickering a glare at the green dragon. “I thought I told you to stay away.”
The green dragon looked around, eyebrow raised. “Yeah, right,” he murmured.
The Elite was gone. Cautiously, Veronika, Raffi, and Ash banded together, eyeing the two new dragons nervously. Redemption sighed. “Go back to your friends,” she murmured. “I have a problem to solve.” She aimed at killing glare at her two new companions. “Come on, I have to yell at you two.” “Wait!” Veronika stepped forward. “What about the Elite?” “Tell.”
And without another word, Redemption flared her wings and flew off into the sky. After a moment, the two other dragons flew after her. Ash and Raffi exchanged confused looks as Veronika blew out a long breath.
“Well… that went well.”

“I told you not to follow me.”
The green dragon gave Redemption a pitying look. “Ari, since when did Chris and I ever listen to what you say?” “This is serious, Sparkx,” Redemption snarled. “A matter of life and death. You both could get killed.” “So what? You want us to stand off to the side and watch you get killed? Thanks, but not thanks,” Chris muttered.
The silver dragon sighed. “I don’t want you to get hurt,” she murmured. Chris edged closer to her, gently letting his wing graze her shoulder. “We won’t, Ari,” Sparkx assured her. “You know us; careful is in our blood.”
She chuckled despite herself, leaning briefly into Chris with a sigh; but it only lasted a moment and she pulled away, spreading her wings, giving her two friends another glance. “Just stay alive,” she muttered, before flaring her wings and soaring into the sky.
I’d never forgive myself if you both died, too.
End chapter 3

Chapter 4
Veronika, Raffi, and Ash were able to slip back into Jake’s house without being noticed. Both were badly shaken by what they’d seen of the Huntsclan Elite, and rather uneasy with the knowledge that there was not one, but three new dragons flying around New York City.
They knew they had to tell Jake and the others.
After a moment of silence, Ash quietly began to sing “Move Along” by All American Rejects. For the firs time, Veronika and Raffi didn’t try to stop her.

It was snowing again, sparkling gently as the flakes twirled outside the glass. Amanda sat silently gazing out the window; Kevin sat beside her, hunched over his textbook and tapping his pencil to some sort of beat.
Occasionally Amanda glanced at Kevin, but he seemed caught up in his own world and her courage failed her. She sighed softly.
“You okay?”
Hmm, she was wrong. Maybe he wasn’t in his own world. She blinked as he looked up at her, his blue eyes concerned. She smiled. “Yeah, I’m fine.” “Are you thinking?” “… Yeah.” “What about?” “It’s nothing, Kev.”
Kevin gave her a doubtful look, but Amanda just shook her head. He shrugged and started to go back to his book, but paused when Tanaiya walked into the room.
“There you two are. Come on, something’s up. Jake wants us. Ash, Raffi, and Veronika have something to tell us.”
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Redemption shook her head, blinking as a few flakes drifted down and landed in her eyes; when that didn’t work, she lifted her hand and wiped her eyes to clear them.
She was still in dragon form, and still going by her dragon name. It was getting late, darkness had fallen and the temperature had dropped a few degrees, but she wanted to continue patrolling for a little longer before finding Sparkx and Chris again. She wanted to make sure she missed nothing.
Sparkx—she called him that and thought of him as that because his name was also Chris, and calling both boys Chris would just be way to confusing—would probably say she was being a stubborn idiot. He was the big brother she’d never had growing up and he’d taken it upon himself to watch over her as she tracked the Huntsclan.
Chris—her Chris, that was what Sparkx often called him, teasingly—was more complicated. She had met him at school, and they had talked, grown close for awhile. But then Dallas had died and she had left. Chris had gone out to find her and had met Sparkx in the process.
… And since this was getting her absolutely no where, why was she thinking about it?
Redemption growled irritably. Now was not the time to let her mind wander. She had something to think about, something more serious then the two boys currently involved in her life, whether she wanted them there or not.
She tilted her head to one side, nodded, before turning back to human form. What the heck, cutting patrol a few minutes short wouldn’t kill her.

The Elite member quietly shifted the Staff in his hand, taking aim at the young girl as she pulled her cell phone out of her pocket and began to dial. She was distracted, and he smirked.
Just like your Dragon Master, young one.
His Staff crackled as energy began to build up for another shot. The eerier green glow was reflected in his eyes, dark and cold.
Just like your Dragon Master.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
A shrill scream pierced the still night sky.
But it was late, it was dark, and it was cold.
No one heard.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
There was a fizzling pop on Chris’s cell phone, then the dial tone. He gaped at it stupidly for a moment before realizing that something had just happened. Ariana was not the type to hang up mid-call.
“Chris?” Looking up from where he lay on his bed staring at the ceiling, Sparkx—in his human form—frowned. “You okay?”
Chris looked at him, causing the older boy to rise. He could see shock in his eyes, but something else—anguish, and the beginnings of anger.
“Ari.” His voice shook. “Something happened to Ari.”
End chapter 4
Yeah, when YFWE asked me to use his characters he also wanted me to get them together. Hence that little bit in the middle between Kevin and Amanda. XD
