-This one came to me quite awhile ago while I was listening to the Nickelback song ‘Someday’ and well, after several weeks of delay I finally got this song fic done. It’s a take off of the ‘Someday’ music video clip, I hope it makes sense cause I kinda rushed typed it. The ending is really cool; if you understand it, anyway, please tell me what you think…
(Note: Jake and Rose are adults in this story…Let’s say, about 23 or something…Oh, and I don't own the rights to the song 'Someday')
Jake stood in his apartment in New York City, turning his attention away from the window in which he’d once been staring and turned his attention to Rose, who’d been the girl of his dreams for as long as he could remember, and to this day still was.
How the hell’d we wind up like this
And why weren’t we able
To see the signs that we missed
And try to turn the tables
She had her back to him, standing over the kitchen table, crying as she held a newspaper in her hands. Staring upon the front page she suddenly dropped the paper in a small cry of anguish, spilling over a glass of milk which had once been sitting there. She ran over to the bed and grabbed her suitcase, throwing articles of clothing and belongings into it as fast as she could, between her sobs.
I wish you’d unclench your fists
And unpack your suitcase
Lately there’s been too much of this,
But don’t think it’s too late
Jake looked down and sighed. He couldn’t blame Rose for leaving. All her life she’d just been the victim of another tragedy, another heartbreak, all because of Jake. And it was no different this time. Jake had broken her heart again, but he never meant to cause her any of the pain she was going through. It wasn’t his fault that this had happened; it was no one’s fault. It was just the way life went.
Nothing’s wrong
Just as long as you know that someday I will
Someday, somehow
I’m gonna make it alright
But not right now
I know you’re wondering when
You’re the only who knows that
Rose snapped her suitcase shut, as Jake sighed at the table, cradling his face in his hands, ashamed. She came over to him, only to pick her keys up which sat upon the surface in front of him. Jake tried to reason with her, but it was hopeless. She was gone.
Someday, somehow
I’m gonna make it alright
But not right now
I know you’re wondering when
She looked down at Jake for what she hoped would be the last time. The pain and dejection she’d felt over the years unmistakably written upon her face. She turned and headed out the turned. Jake stood up still trying to convince her there was a way through this, but she didn’t listen. She walked out the open door, leaving Jake to stand alone, trudging through the puddle of milk upon the floor. Wishing he could turn back the clock, wishing he could make it right. But strangely, as he stepped out of the puddle his shoe did not leave a footprint...
Well I hope that since we’re here anyway
That we could end up saying
Things we’ve always needed to say
So we could end up staying
Rose made her way outside, and onto the sidewalk, stepping into her car, a black Jeep Grand Cherokee opening the door and sitting in the driver’s seat, placing her suitcase upon the one next to her. Jake walked up to the car and stood in front of it, watching her cry inside through the windscreen. He tapped on the window of the driver’s seat, begging for her to open the door, still trying to assure her that everything would be okay.
Now the story’s played out like this
Just like a paperback novel
Let’s rewrite an ending that fits
Instead of a Hollywood horror
But to Rose everything was beyond right, none of this could be repaired. She continued to weep in the car, as Jake stood on the outside, still tapping the window and trying to get a response from her. But Rose continued to ignore him, and eventually gave up, sliding the keys into the ignition and turning them.
Nothing’s wrong
Just as long as you know that someday I will
The engine sprung into life and Rose put her foot down on the accelerator, as Jake struggled to keep his grip on the window of the car. But as car picked up speed, Jake couldn’t hold on anymore and the black Jeep took off ahead of him as he ran desperately after it.
Someday, somehow
I’m gonna make it alright
But not right now
I know you’re wondering when
You’re the only who knows that
Jake continued to run, though fatigue had already set in on him and he didn’t know if he could continue for much longer. He was sprinting as fast as he could after Rose’s car, yelling to her to stop. But she didn’t listen. She simply adjusted the rear vision mirror, turning it away from Jake so she couldn’t see him, so she could pretend he wasn’t there. Just like she’d done several times before in the years past, to try and forget the pain she felt. But as she adjusted it, Jake's reflection was not shown in the mirror...
Someday, somehow
I’m gonna make it alright
But not right now
I know you’re wondering when
You’re the only who knows that
Eventually Jake, who’d almost, reached her now. Threw his arms into the air, signalling Rose to stop, hoping she would see him. But just Rose took a sharp turn through an intersection and drove even further off into the distance, further out of Jake’s sight. He stopped in the middle of the intersection, bending over to catch his breathe and took another glance at the back of the black car, throwing his arms into the air again, as if to say ‘Why?’ After a moment of rest and hesitation, Jake took off again after the car.
Jake continued to push on down the road after Rose, until the eventually, he caught a glimpse of the black car ahead of him in the distance.
How the hell’d we wind up like this
And why weren’t we able
To see the signs that we missed
And try to turn the tables
But suddenly, Rose (who mustn’t have been concentrating on the road) drove straight through a red light and it was at that moment that a semi-trailer truck came screaming through the intersection and smashed right into the side of Rose’s Jeep.
Now the story’s played out like this
Just like a paperback novel
Let’s rewrite an ending that fits
Instead of a Hollywood horror
It shattered the front and rear windscreen’s, dilapidated the entire left side of the car, the same side, that Rose was sitting, and this thick, rugged vehicle with its speed and force was continued to move, even after hitting Rose’s car, and Jake watched in shock as the black Jeep with Rose inside was pushed a few more feet along, before the truck’s brakes finally pulled the vehicle to a stop.
Nothing’s wrong
Just as long as you know that someday I will
Several pedestrians crowded around the rusted and smoking wreck, all except for Jake, who ran in closer concerned for Rose’s well being, yet still stood several yards away from it, staring in utter disbelief, fearing what could’ve happened to her.
Someday, somehow
I’m gonna make it alright
But not right now
I know you’re wondering when
You’re the only who knows that
But as the pedestrians and a few emergency technicians who’d come over to examine the car and see if anyone had survived. Rose, almost like a spirit, rose from within the smoking; frail wreck came over to Jake, seemingly not hurt at all.
Someday, somehow
I’m gonna make it alright
But not right now
I know you’re wondering when
You’re the only who knows that
She walked slowly over to Jake and hugged herself to him, as Jake felt relief and contentment flow over his body, when he saw that she was okay.
I know you’re wondering when
You’re the only who knows that
I know you’re wondering when
And as Jake and Rose once again held each other in their arms, a strong gust of wind blew by, picking a page of a newspaper up in the breeze and blowing it by their feet.
Upon an article in the bottom left hand corner was Jake’s picture, written under the caption ‘Man dies in tragic bridge accident…’
