Well, I've become very aware of the fact that I'm talking freaking ages to update with the latest chapter, so I thought I would half what I was original planning to do for Chapter 4 and post it in order to keep you guys from waiting. In other words, when I said this chapter wouldn't be as long (in length) I was WAY OFF XD.
So yeah, there's more on the way but I hope you like what I've got so far and as usual if there's a massive chunk of the story missing for whatever reason (because I'm totally organised like that ) just let me know and I'll fix it.
Lewis made his way up the long, stretching driveway that lead to his house, dragging along his now mangled, decrepit bike with his spare arm. He pulled through the front door, leaving his bike lying out in the middle of his front yard, far from his field of vision. He just wanted to put all this behind him, and get whatever the hell it was that was happening as far out of his mind as possible.
He had homework and assignments to get started and didn’t know how well he’d be able to concentrate if the thought of just having narrowly escape death for the second in month stayed on his mind.
“Hey,” his dad said from the couch, looking up at him as he made his way through the door.
“Hey,” Lewis replied, taking off his bag and placing it down in the corner, staring at the TV with a curious gaze.
It must’ve been a news or current affairs program as it was flashing pictures of rescuers working to clean up the wreckage of a dark blue truck. Then suddenly, out of the corner of his eye Lewis saw something that made him freeze on the spot, the hair on the back of his neck sticking up and his heart rate suddenly increasing.
The camera had hovered around the back of the truck, showing a shot of its license plate which read ‘22AA33’. That was the exact same license plate as the truck that had almost hit Lewis earlier, the exact one that… Had almost cost him his life.
It was all happening again, just like before. Lewis had a near death experience, but as usual there was someone there who would pay the ultimate price for him long enough to focus on trying to figure out what this meant and what was going on.
“Are you okay?” his dad asked Lewis, looking over at him and noticing that he was staring at the TV with a look of total, utter shock on his face.
“Yeah,” he replied, eventually snapping back in reality and turning away from the TV “I’m fine…”
He turned away, once again trying to put this behind him even after that news report had tried to lure him back in and make him believe that he was one step closer to uncovering the secret. He wanted to forget it, he wanted to try and not let these thoughts continue to enter his mind but he couldn’t help it.
He eventually reached his bedroom door and turned the knob slowly, with a trembling hand. He walked through and let the strap of his bag slide through his fingertips and crash heavily into the ground. Though he could see it hitting the ground out of the corner of his eye, he didn’t hear the sound of the impact. It was almost as if it had fallen miles away.
His vision grew blurry and faded, as his knees grew weak and he eventually felt himself lurching forward and collapsing against the floor. His eyes drooping slowly and dragging him further into the blinding darkness.
"Guys, we've been here for almost two hours now," Kevin said, watching the others pace around the room impatiently "If there really was a meeting, or whatever we were supposed to be here for, I think it's safe to say it's been cancelled."
"Yeah, you're probably right," Emi replied, checking her watch "and it is getting pretty late…"
“Huh,” Ari said, getting up from the chair she'd been "That’s weird. Wouldn’t they have
“I know," Veronika replied, getting up across from her
“Maybe there was one but we just didn’t hear it?” Sam said
“Yeah, you’re probably right,” Veronika replied "Anyway, I'm gonna head off, I'll see you guys tomorrow I guess."
"Yeah, see you later," they replied, as Veronika left.
"Well, I don’t know about you guys,” Kevin continued “But I think it’s about time I left too”
“Yeah,” Ari replied “I should be heading off too.”
“Yeah, me too,” Sam and Emi replied simultaneously, before the four each picked up their belongings and made their way out of the classroom.
“So, anyone else not going to be sleeping much tonight?” Emi said eventually, breaking the silence shared between the four of them.
“Yeah, probably not,” Sam replied with a laugh “All that stuff about the ‘Aus Drag’ was creepy, even if it was just a coincidence.”
“Well, I still think it is,” Kevin said
“Yeah,” Ari replied “Big coincidence though.”
“It’s not a big coincidence, it’s just a coincidence,” Kevin said “There are no big or small coincidences”
“No, there are degrees of coincidences,” Ari continued
“Oh really?” Kevin said “Well then, let’s ask.”
“What do you guys think?” he asked, turning to Emi and Sam “Are there are big and small coincidences, or just coincidences? Well?” [A/N: lol I just had to do that, it’s a Seinfeld joke XD]
“Uh,” Emi replied sheepishly “I really shouldn’t get involved in this. I’ve gotta get going. Later,” she added, before heading her separate way home.
“Yeah, I… Uh,” Sam said, before turning and heading after Emi “Hey Emi! Wait up!” she called, Kevin rolled his eyes and sighed while Ari just laughed.
“Looks like we’ve lost ‘em,” Kevin said eventually, with a laugh
“Yeah,” Ari replied, grinning “Sounds about right.”
“You heading this way?” Kevin asked, gesturing further down the street to their left
“Yeah,” Ari said “You too?”
“Looks that way,” Kevin replied as they continued to head down the street.
Darkness has already begun to fall before Ash was even halfway through making her journey home. Well, her home away from home at least. She hadn’t been particular found of Alaska for its extreme weather conditions and remote location, but in the end it was still her home and not easy to be away from; especially when she was in a completely new country to her like this one.
She pulled the hood of her jacket over her head to fight of the cold wind lashing against her body (though, she knew she’d felt wind much colder in Alaska) feeling the dark clouds hanging over her as she continued to make her way further down the cold, dull footpath. The darkening sky was lit up partially by the glistening streetlights stretching along the roadside, as well as a number of different fireflies hovering gracefully the air.
It was a great night. A bit chilly, but other then that it was absolutely amazing. The sky was clear, revealing the thousands of stretching stars that fell across it like sparkling diamonds in the night.
“Wow,” she said to herself as she continued along “This really is amazing.” And she stopped for a moment, glancing as far as her eyes could see. Taking in every ounce of her surroundings, the air, crisp and clear. It was completely free of overwhelming sound or harsh conditions, destroying the peace. She herself had grown up living out in the middle of nowhere, and was now standing in a ‘grassy desert’ so to speak. In a place that looked like it could’ve been miles from anywhere, but really wasn’t.
As she began to make her way onward, she suddenly froze at the unmistakable sound of movement behind her, a twig breaking followed shortly by a murmured voice that felt far too close for comfort.
“Enjoying the view?” it broke out from behind her suddenly.
“What,” she said, turning around after an unexpected ‘greeting’ “Who’s there?”
But there was nothing, the path she’d walking along was completely empty. There was no one behind her, no one in front of her. There appeared to be a series of alleys just across from her, between two old, abandoned buildings about four or five stories high.
“Hello?” she said, making her way over there, but there was no answer.
“Alright guys,” Ash said eventually, lowering her arms slightly and expecting Lewis and Liam to be hiding in a shrub behind her. Laughing hysterically over the cruel joke they’d just pulled on her. “Very funny, you can come out now.”
But when she heard the sound of footsteps heading closer to her, it wasn’t Lewis or Liam who had caught her by surprise. She would soon find out who that person’s voice really belonged to as she suddenly felt a shadow advancing upon her from the darkness as she turned around to face them
“Now that, wasn’t funny-” she began, before gasping in shock at who stood before. It wasn’t who she’d expected to see. She hadn’t just been the victim of a practical joke, but suddenly felt as though she was going to become the victim of something much more life threatening.
Ash fell forward, collapsing against the ground after having received a hard shot to the back of her head. Her vision flashed over shoulder, as she tried to ignore the pain numbing over her and struggling to identify any of the faces of the people behind her.
She couldn’t make them out. But she knew there was more then one of them, and she knew for certain why it had been so hard to make out any of their faces. They were masked. Masked and heavily disguised by dark uniform, covering any distinguishing features of their bodies. No matter where in the world she went, she would never forget what these people looked like. It was the Huntsclan.
It wasn’t much longer after that their leader (who must’ve been the one who distracted her by calling out to her from behind) stepped forward. Towering over Ash from behind, he reached for her with an outstretched hand, looking to overpower her while she was in a venerable predicament.
Ash didn't know what he was going to do to her, but she had no intentions of finding out and retaliated quickly as he advanced on her, flicking out her dragon tail unexpectedly and tripping him off his feet. He crashed against the ground with and ugly thud, his staff falling from his grip and clammering against the ground a few inches behind.
With that, Ash quickly sprung to her feet and broke into run, heading further into the darkness trying to escape a deadly fate.
“After her!” she heard the Huntsman’s call, ordering his men to stop her in her tracks as he struggling to regain his balance.
Ash didn’t know what was going on. She didn’t know why the Huntsclan were after her and she didn’t know why they thought she was somehow related to the Australian Dragon, all she wanted to do was get the hell out o there. She pulled her cell phone out of her pocket and immediately hit the speed dial for Lewis’s number, before pressing the phone against her ear.
She could feel her heart rate increasing with each ring, as the sounds of voices murmuring becoming clearer by the second. The tension was killing her, as each ring seem to echo through her ear, lasting an eternity. Until suddenly, they stopped.
Hey, what’s up? A voice from the receiving end chimed You’re reached Lewis’s Mobile and sorry, but looks like you’ve caught me at a bad time. If you want me to call you back, just gimme a shout after the beep and I’ll get onto you A.S.A.P. Peace out for now guys.
“d*mnit,” Ash cursed, hanging up the call and redialing the number, double-checking that Lewis just hadn’t been able to answer his phone in time. But there was no response, absolutely nothing. Desperately, Ash hung up her second call to Lewis and punched in a new number, before pulling the phone up to her ear.
“Oh please be there Liam,” she begged, leaning up against the wall and getting as close to it as possible. Hoping to fall into the darkness of the shadows and not be uncovered by the clan member’s lurking eyes.
Hello? She heard his voice crackle from the receiving end.
“Liam,” Ash replied in a half whisper, half cry, pulling out of the alleyway slightly and trying to get a better reception “You’ve got to help me…”
So yeah, that was it. That's only like half of what I was planning to originally make Chapter 4, but again, I think you guys have waited long enough. Please R&R! =D
FYI, sorry if you feel that your charrie didn't get much attention in this chapter. I tried, but (like I said) I would've been using them alot more if I'd included the other half of this chapter. But don't worry, I'm going to try my best to make up for it in Chapter 5.
So yeah, there's more on the way but I hope you like what I've got so far and as usual if there's a massive chunk of the story missing for whatever reason (because I'm totally organised like that ) just let me know and I'll fix it.
