I normally don't like reading about OCs in fan fiction. The majority of fan fiction I read in non-ADJL fan fiction have a large role in story and drowned out the original characters of the show. I think tons of them are not well-developed and eventually become Mary Sues and Gary Stu and ruin the fan fiction they are in.
From the OC I read here I noticed quite a few are thought out well and probably wouldn't have any problems. Only thing I could see go wrong is if too many are used and original characters get small roles in story. At that point it may just be better for the author to remove all characters from the series and write their own original work.

I like killing my people and bringing them back. XD LOLZ, I kid.
I don't like people who have OCs like Jake and Rose, with the same picture and everything, and personalities. I mean, I think I used to do that, but I changed it to be better. I also don't like how people are, OH, I'M THE AMERICAN DRAGON, JAKE'S NOT HEEREEE. And he's standing right there. Or flying right there.

I have to agree with Ewan.
But truthfully, I normally don't mind Mary-Sues unless they stand out like wow. But it's pretty d*mn funny to read the Mary-Sues that stand out like wow cause they're always like "OMG I'M SO PERFECT I RULEEEE" and so forth. XD

^not when I first read it. When I first read it, I had no clue what Mary-Sue's were. XD But the second time I did, it did that. XD

ADJL Mary Sues I don't mind much (since someone at FF.net told me last year that Leah's a bit Mary Sueish). Avatar Mary Sues however...*shudder*

^ To its credit, AmDrag doesn't have many Mary-Sues. Avatar, on the other hand... that fandom kills me dead with its Mary-Sues. Which is why the only OC I've ever made was Maiko offspring.

^Yeah, most of the characters that I have seen for ADJL are either well thought out, or started as Mary-Sue (I know I started out with Mary-Sues. I know you guys have XD), and worked their way up into a non Mary-Sue character.
Danny Phantom Mary-Sues are pretty bad ... I know Avatar's are really bad ... BUT, FullMetal Alchemist Mary-Sue's own all the other shows that have really horrible Mary-Sue's. *shudders at the though of a FMA Mary-Sue*
You really gotta give ADJL for having the lowest number of Mary-Sue's that anyone has probably ever seen lol.

Yeah, the most Mary-Sueish I've seen ADJL OCs come in is with some fancomic (I won't give names) which every OC villain and two out of the three OC allies struck me as blatent Mary Sue. Otherwise, us Amdrag fanfic writers are pretty good at this character stuff.
