As promised here's the second story in my series.
Fallen Leaves
Chapter 1
After Rose's kidnapping Jake was inconsolable. He sat at the kitchen table, his head in his bandaged hands, under the harsh glow of the light above. Rose had been taken from him only hours ago but it felt like days, months, years, forever. “I have to do something!” he thought, “I have to get her back! I have to!” He loved her more than anyone else in his life, he had to get her back. All he wanted was to hold her close, and to never let her go, and he'd kill the person that tried to take him from her again.
Lao Shi walked quietly into the kitchen. For awhile he only watched his grandson sit there, looking hopeless and depressed, his anger had since been drained from him. Lao Shi cared about Jake but he did not care for Rose, she was still Huntsgirl to him.
“You must get some sleep, you have school tomorrow.” Lao said calmly.
“I'm not tired.” Jake replied, his voice becoming sharp and edgy again.
“Jake, you must go, regardless of what happened. You should have known this would happen, the Huntsgirl is a valuable asset to the Huntsclan, they wanted her back.” Lao said, his voice still calm, “She is probably back at the Huntsclan Academy, teaching new ways to kill a dragon.”
“How could you say that?” cried Jake, his fragile nerves snapping. “Her name is Rose and she loves me, I know it!” he continued, “I hate you!”
Jake stormed past his grandfather and up to his room. He managed to make it to his bed before he collapsed, sobbing. He cried until he could cry no more, and then he fell into a deep yet restless sleep, unable to dream about anything except Rose, and what might happen to her.
Jake awoke the next morning to the sound of his alarm. He slowly got out of bed and walked over to the window. He looked out into the gray autumn dawn, he felt no better than the night before. He looked down into the street, it was November now and most of the leaves had fallen from the trees. He looked at these fallen leaves scattered everywhere, forced to go wherever the wind took them.
“We are fallen leaves, Rose and I.” he though glumly, “We are forced to go wherever we are told, we have no choice.” “The leaves are only safe when they're hidden, only where they're sheltered from the wind are they safe.” he continued to think, “We will have to hide then.”
He made up his mind, he knew what he would do. We would rescue her and then they would hide, somewhere far away, somewhere out of the reach of the Huntsclan and the Dragon Council. Content with this solution, Jake padded downstairs for breakfast.
“Three days, three long, terrible days.” Jake though as he sat on his bed, it was getting dark outside. It had been three days since he had lost his love, he was now planning to get her back. He would get her back, no matter what the cost.
“This isn't a room, this is a jail cell.” thought Rose as she paced around her rather large room at the Academy. The room had changed since she got back, sensors, shatter proof glass and triple-locked doors prevented her from even the notion of escape. The Huntsman had been very calm when he met with her three days ago. He had simply sent her here, with two hunters to guard her door and a whole surveillance team to keep a watch on her. She knew that he wouldn't give her another chance, but it was clear here wanted her for something.
There was a knock at the door, and the Huntsman strode in a moment later, accompanied only by another man whom Rose did not recognize, his face was also hidden by a mask and a dragon skull.
“Huntsgirl, I would like you to meet someone very important.” the Huntsman said, “This is my son, Robert.”
“Hello.” Robert said in a cool voice, sounding very much like the Huntsman, “So you're the cousin I've heard so much about.”
“Robert has been on the front in China for many years now.” the Huntsman said with pride, “So far he has slain ten dragons, and plenty of other, magical beings.”
“How nice.” Rose said sarcastically.
“I'll leave you to her.” said the Huntsman, “You know what to do.” He left the room, locking the door behind him. Robert and Rose were alone now, accept for the hidden cameras and listening devices scattered throughout the room. Rose looked at Robert nervously, sweat had begun to pop out on her face.
“Don't worry. I'm not going to rape you.” he said, his voice almost sounding happy, “But I am going to make you wish you never let that dragon live!” He advanced toward her, she backed away. Suddenly he lunged at her, driving her into a wall. Rose looked up into his eyes, those wild, hate filled eyes and could only scream.
Far across town, Jake sat bolt upright in his bed. His window had been open, despite it being late fall. He walked over to the window and looked out at the night sky. Somewhere, far away, he though he heard someone scream.
