Chapter 3
Jake and Rizen were running through the empty hallways.
“Crap, this is like a curse with me or something,” Jake said.
“Then better start leaving earlier,” Rizen said.
They eventually got to Room 117, Homeroom.
“Here we are,” Jake said opening the door.
The two ran inside and almost ran into a man. Rizen looked at the man with interest; he thought he was dressed oddly. The man was wearing an odd jacket and pants, but the oddest part was his hair.
“This is Rotwood,” Jake whispered to Rizen.
“Jake Long,” Rotwood shouted. “You are late once again; you have seemed to change much from middle school.”
Rotwood looked over to Rizen.
“And who might this be,” he asked.
“Rizen Sun, sir,” Rizen said.
He then bowed half way as he had formally learned to greet people back in Japan.
“You know, the new exchange student from Japan,” Jake added.
“Ah yes, I’ve heard about you going to be here today. Bad way to start your time here,” Rotwood said.
“For both of you a detention, unless you can answer a simple mythology question,” he added.
“What happened to the capitals of countries questions,” Jake asked.
“Silence! What abilities does a dragon have,” Rotwood asked.
Rizen was guessing this was a way for Rotwood to test if he was a dragon.
“Fire-breathing, flight and super strength,” Rizen replied.
Rizen assumed that if Rotwood knew about dragons he would know that they shape shift from human forms.
“Incorrect! Dragons also posses the ability to turn into humans,” Rotwood told him. “Detention tomorrow after school for the both of you, now take your seats.”
Rizen and Jake walked over to an empty table with two seats. The room was arranged with 4 rows of 3 tables that could seat 2 people each.
“Nice job dude,” Jake said angrily.
“You said that Rotwood shouldn’t find out that I’m a dragon,” Rizen replied.
They watched Rotwood walk to the front of the class.
“Students, we have a new exchange student. His name is Rizen Sun; he’s the one with red hair. I want you all to give him a warm welcome,” Rotwood told the class.
“Hey,” Jake whispered to Rizen.
“Yeah,” he replied.
“You see that guy over there,” Jake said pointing to a teen with spiky blond hair, a red sweater and jeans who was staring right at them.
“Yeah,” Rizen said.
“That’s Brad, he’ll try to give you trouble cause your new here. Try and avoid him.
“Don’t worry, if he does, he’ll have another thing coming to him.”
The bell rang and they walked out of the class. Jake and Rizen had barely made out of the classroom when they heard someone call to them.
“Hey!”
They turned around to see it was Brad.
“Just wanted to give you a warm welcome, Raisen” Brad said.
“It’s actually said Riz-an. Not Ray-zan,” Rizen informed him.
“Are you sassing the Bradster,” he asked with and angry expression.
“Guess so,” Rizen said.
Jake and everyone else’s jaw dropped. Nobody had ever stood up to Brad before.
“You wanna go,” Brad shouted to him.
“This is a totally unfair fight,” Rizen told him.
“You bet so, I’m going to beat you to a pulp,” Brad said grinning.
“No, I meant for me. I’ll win, want to know why? One, I’m taller. Two, I’m from Japan; you don’t know what kinds of martial arts they’ve been teaching me there,” Rizen pointed out.
“I’ll still beat you,” Brad said.
“If you say so,” Rizen said getting into a fighting stance.
All the kids had cell phones out and were recording the fight. They knew if someone stood up to Brad that meant they probably had a good chance of winning. Brad swung his fist at Rizen. Rizen grabbed it with his left hand and twisted it this caused Brad shouted in pain. Rizen then punched Brad in the stomach. This made Brad fall right to the ground, everyone gasped. Rizen pulled his collar back up on his collar. He turned and looked at everyone.
“Shouldn’t you be getting to class,” he asked.
He then turned and looked a Jake.
“Let’s go,” he told him.
He walked towards the crowd and it parted so he and Jake could get out. Rizen left without saying another word with Jake following in amazement.
