Haha, randomness; and probably the first fic I've ever completed from start to finish in one-sitting! So that explains why it's crap. xD
Anyway, this was originally gonna be an Ash/Lewis main focus kinda thing, but it turned out to be more of a Ash/Lewis/Liam friendship fic. Which is still cool, just not what I expected.
As for the rest of it well... You know what, don't even ask. Just read!
Oh, and please excuse my pitiful attempts at humour
“Urgh,” Lewis groaned in annoyance, his fingers lingering over the Ipod's touch pad a moment longer, before pressing firmly down upon the skip track button, searching through five or six songs, before finally settling.
For someone with such a wide range of music in his library, Lewis was astoundingly selective when it came to actually playing something.
His actions did not go unnoticed.
“Hey!” called a voice from beside him, muffled and barely audible due the heavy pounding of double kick drums in his ears; it was Avenged Sevenfold, undoubtedly. No one could match the supreme drumming skills of The Rev; “I happen to like that song!”
Said statement was met with a simple eye roll.
“I happened to like that song also, but before you know it, Boom, local Radio DQs suddenly decide to play any One Republic they could get their hands on like, every five minutes. I mean, god! And while we’re on it, what’s up with it being ‘Apologize’ by Timbaland? What the hell does he contribute to the song?”
A pair of bright blue eyes opened to glare in the young male's direction, as the female a mere two years shy of his age, blew a thick tuft of red hair from out of her face, not wanting her expression to be tainted by her the wind’s consistent tossing around of her fringe.
The self proclaimed ‘Queer Trio’ weren’t used to having to cater entertainment for themselves on a Monday afternoon. They rarely had a moment to themselves when caught up in the daily routine of homework, assignments and procrastination that made up the average school week, let alone time to hang out.
However, due to a recent teacher strike, they were given a day off, until further notice; and as much as they hated to admit it, the teens had actually been depending upon school today.
It was like the commercials that filled up the remaining ten minutes or so of the half hour time block, that was most T.V. shows. As well as providing time to grab snacks, or relieve oneself, without missing out on the important things. Like catching upon on the latest episode of Gossip Girl [A/N: lol] or who was next to go in the new series of Big Brother.
Yes, regardless of how much everyone enjoys time off; and how big of a choir it seemed, school was time-consuming. A part of every kid’s routine. The filler episode of Heroes that was simply… Needed, in order to complete the season.
Take that away, and suddenly you’re left with a serious problem:
FILLING THE VOID!!!111
The teens had been quick to ring each other and immediately began to discuss ideas for what they could do that day in a fit of pure joy. However, finding the perfect activity wasn’t as easy as they'd first thought.
Lewis’s sister had his car, rendering the teens unable to drive anywhere else. The next nearest option would’ve been the mall, but it was packed, and there no good movies on; save for the sequels to movie series’ that had been ridden so far into the ground there were causing a small crevasse to form.
Naturally, the teens decided a movie night in was the perfect counter option! Only to realize they had all been forced out onto the streets by their parents in the spirit of “Not wasting such a beautiful day in front of that god-forsaken idiot box.”
With no further options, the teens found a refugee in lolling carelessly around amongst the thick, shimmering blades of grass, basking in the cool shade
Their surroundings were incredibly tranquil, perfectly still. Gorgeous.
Just a moment spent for the teens to appreciate the true beauty that was god’s gift of nature.
No plugs, no chords, no headphones, no evidence of assistance in man assisted construction whatsoever.
For once they would have the opportunity to take it what had always eluded them. Finally see what the stress and consumption of their lives’ events had blinded them from for years…
…So naturally they all took out their Ipods.
Liam had left the two ‘lovebirds’ alone, stating something about not being in the mood to listen to ‘rooster rock’, a statement that earned him two simultaneous bruisings, one on each arm, and decided not to bother Ash or Lewis any further… Three words – foot, in, mouth.
After crawling what he deemed a safe distance away from the couple of almost two years, Liam had seemingly fallen asleep. His Ipod having slipped gracefully through the now unconscious grip of his fingers, and his cap drooped over; covering the majority of his face from the sun’s blinding rays; as he slumped lazily against a tree.
With the Beck molester out of the picture, the two felt relieved to finally have some time to themselves. Alone… We’ll, sort of.
It was such a shame that they have a habit of annoying each other just as much as he does though.
[A/N: Mwhahahaha-urgh-*cough, splutter*]
“Change it back,” Ash stated simply, in a voice that was somehow half demanding and half whiny “And quit trying to change the freaking subject!”
“What was that Ash?” Lewis smirked, cupping his right hand by his ear as if to emphasis his current lack of a particular sense “Sorry, I can’t hear you.”
Aggravated, the girl sat up, her hair that was tied loosely in a ponytail, falling over her shoulder, as she slowly edged herself closer towards the young male, all hope of this little confrontation ending violence free slowly dispersing by the second.
“I said ‘change it back’!” Ash exclaimed, before suddenly attempting to lunge her arm over Lewis’s shoulder. He felt her arm attempting to grab the small device from his grasp, and immediately stood up slightly, cutting Ash’s hand just a few inches short of it.
“-the hell?” was all Lewis could exclaim, as he began to swat at his ‘attacker’, who had now apparently jumped onto his back, still with her arms outstretched over her shoulders.
Taken back by the unexpected weight upon his shoulders, Lewis stumbled forward slightly before regaining his balance. However, his brief moment of staggering, Lewis realized that he may drop the device and tightened his grip around it more, inadvertently bumping the skip trick button once more.
Had the two not been so focused on attempting to have Lewis’ Ipod in their possession, they would’ve probably both shared a moment of laughter over the song that just so happened to appear next on Lewis’ ‘shuffle’ playlist.
“g*d d**nit, Ash! Stop struggling!” Lewis yelled, grabbing ahold of the smaller girl clutching his shoulders and trying to hold her still “What the hell is your problem?”
“My problem?” she exclaimed, still struggling and kicking against his will “What about you?! Why would you even have a song on your Ipod you don’t like?”
“…Eh, there are some songs on the album I like,” Lewis explained, shrugging sheepishly “and I have this weird habit where if I own an entire album, I always have to put it ALL on. Even if there are only one or two songs I actually like. It’s weird… But that’s not the point! You could’ve asked,” Lewis smirked, not being able to resist taking a crack at his girlfriend.
“I tried that already, but apparently someone’s too much of a jerk to share!” Ash shouted, as one of her flailing limbs connecting with Lewis’ arm accidentally-on-purpose.
“Ow, what the f**k?” Lewis called, swatting Ash’s arm back once more “You don’t have to go mental on me, I was just kidding!
Ah yes, the very unusual argument between boyfriend and girlfriend continued, and it was Ash’s turn to brush the skip track button out of accident, when attempting to grab it.
It was awhile before either of the two noticed that the song had changed from a series of much heavier guitar riffs and roughly chanted vocals; there’s a chance it may have been All That Remains, but neither could remember for certain; to the much softer strumming of a clean, acoustic guitar.
The unexpected transition suddenly awakened something in Ash, causing her to stop what she was doing and freeze, taking the time to stop and listen to the song that was now playing.
[A/N: just think of one of those moments when you hear a song on the radio for a first time that immediately intrigues you and you’re just like “… wow, what is this?” xD]
“Who’s this?” Ash asked suddenly, her train of thought almost completely lost in the rhythm of the song
“Sum 41,” Lewis replied, almost out of instinct. Baffled by Ash’s sudden decision to stop attempting to steal his Ipod, but also grateful for the opportunity to break the awkward silence of their now uncomfortably peaceful surroundings. Anything to distract them from the fact that Ash was still on his back, her skirt riding up slightly and his hands clutching her legs in an attempt to keep her from falling off and bringing him down with her.
He immediately released his mistake and moved his hands away from the offensive area, all the while flushing and sweat dropping anime style.
“Oh,” Ash said, seemingly not noticing his movement “It’s… nice.”
“Yeah,” Lewis replied, turning his head slightly to look back at her. It real is.
When he realized the random, impulsive… shall we say ‘confrontation’ that had occurred between them had died, he helped Ash as she got off of his back [A/N: that’s what she said ] and it wasn’t long before the two had returned to their spot on the grass again. As though seemingly nothing had happened at all.
They had finally found a song they agreed upon. Lewis lay the Ipod back down between them again, with a sense of trust, knowing Ash wasn’t going to change the song anytime soon.
“Hey,” Lewis said eventually, breaking the silence once more
“Yeah-,” Ash began to reply, but was cut off almost immediately when a soft pair of lips gently brushed against her own, as Lewis drew her closer to him, his arms wrapping around her waist and bringing her into the warmth of his embrace.
Ash’s eyes widened at the unexplained, intimate gesture, but eventually returned it, her hands sliding relaxing against his chest as she returned the kiss, before trailing slowly up to play contentedly the messy locks of hair upon his head.
Ash quickly drew the conclusion that, Lewis; being a musician fanatic, like herself; had turned to the song for a little ‘inspiration’, so to speak. Not that she was complaining. She was enjoying the show of affection he was treating her to, and found that combined with the tender lyrics of the song itself, she felt Lewis was taking the time to express his feelings for her, trying to describe what couldn’t be portrayed through mere words.
“I’m sorry,” he murmured against her lips, after the two broke for air “I feel like an idiot. I was really being a jerk… And over something so small and insignificant too!”
“I’m sorry too,” she replied “I shouldn’t have acted the way I did.”
“So, we’re forgiven both ways?” he asked, a playful grin forming upon his face.
“Yeah,” she said, returning his smile “I’d say so.”
“Good,” Lewis replied, before gradually closing the distance between them again “I think that’s enough talk for now though…”
“Yeah,” Ash replied, as she leaned in closer, his hand gently taking hers. Until…
The unthinkable happened.
“Urgh, not again!” Lewis exclaimed in frustration when he realized his Ipod had changed tracks yet again, in addition to the interruption to the ‘little moment’ he’d just been having with Ash.
He was about to grab it again and see what was up when it jumped to a specific part of this new song, that completely stop in his tracks.
…
There was no way an Ipod would’ve randomly skipped to a specific part of a song. Especially that, of all parts.
This was definitely not a coincidence.
“Oh my god, guys,” a voice from behind them called, in between its attempts to stifle its roaring, seemingly uncontrollable fits of laughter “You should’ve seen your faces. It was classic!”
The two teens immediately scrambled off of each other, in utter shock. Both with flushes rising from their necks and travelling through to their ears, as they glanced across to witness the dirty blonde behind them, his hand outstretched and resting upon Lewis’ Ipod.
The apparently sleeping Liam had decided he was bored and wanted to have some fun with his friends. Deciding that the best way to do so was by interrupting them when he caught them midway through a make out session, in the worst way he could possible.
Music: has as much power to inspire, as it does to disturb, terrify, upset and scar for life.
“Oh wait, looks like you’re going to get to,” Liam continued mercilessly, brandishing a camera phone in his grasp, displaying the picture he’d so conveniently just snapped moments ago, upon the screen “This is SO becoming my myspace Default Pic!” [A/N: Liam = myspace wh*re xD]
“…Liam” Ash seethed, her voice laced with venom “You’ll be lucky if you live long enough to upload that.”
“Haha, yeah right,” Liam challenged, in a tone that may have been slightly too vibrant “You’ll have to catch me first, Ashy-poo!” he added, sblack personing, before bolting off in the opposite direction.
“Hey! Get back here, you self-absorbed prick!” Ash practically snarled, before taking off after him.
Lewis simply sighed at the antics of his two friends, unable to hide the grin that was crossing his face as the two yelled each other, one saying something about disrespecting other people’s privacy, the other, something about how cruel and unusual punishment was against the law.
Lewis chuckled softly and repositioned himself against the trunk of the tree, taking a moment to relish in the opportunity of a day of peace that would scarcely come again. He wouldn’t have it any other way either. Lying back, relaxing, and spending time with two of his closest friends, even if it meant having to listen to them
For that truly was the music to his ears…
…
Hey, wait a minute!
“Liam, you asswipe!”
…
Seriously?
…
That?
…
Music?
…That can’t be right
Lewis promptly retrieved his fallen Ipod from the grass, where it had been left, before quickly returning the headphones to their rightful place and drowning out the offensive noises Ash and Liam were making as they continued to run in circles, until Liam found safety in the nearest tree, leaving a fuming Ash who was too short to reach the branch he’d used to climb up, glaring at him from the ground below.
‘Ah, yeah,’ Lewis thought, his fingers returning to the device’s play button, as he observed his friends’ ‘usual’ behaviour ‘That’s much better…’
And I won't let go

Haha, yeah, so that was... Totally random and unexplained. xD Anyway, hope you liked. If any part of it was likeable.
FYI, it's like 2:00 AM here right now, and I'm about to head off to bed, so g'night and everything, but before I forget; cause it's late if there's any major mistakes or whatever, just let me know and I'll try and edit them ASAP, so this story looks a bit less... stupid. xD
Also, don't ask about the random references to T.V. shows. I don't even watch half the shows I mentioned, I was just trying to create a stereotypical view of what a Teenager might watch... which failed epicly.
Anywho...
