As both a Chinese and an American, I must say that any tensions between both countries economically and politically affect both sides negatively. China, in order to survive, exports a large %age of its products to the United States. United States practically lives off China, as they now own 20% of the U.S.'s debt. As for Taiwan, it is UNDOUBTEDLY PART OF CHINA. Period. And Taiwanese nationalists can bicker all they want... it's in the Chinese law/constitution ( or something like that) that they will acquire Taiwan one way or another by 2020. So, IMO, it would be better for Taiwan to become an S.A.R. (Special Administrative Region), where it can keep its way of life along with the protection of the Chinese Military
