(Wow, when was the last time I posted here? 0_o)
What I mean is...did they wait too long to tell him about magical creatures? And did he ever (accidentally and/or obliviously) put Jake's, Haley's, or anyone elses' lives at risk?
The reason I'm asking this, is because the CW TV series The Vampire Diaries has a character, Jenna (The main character Elena's and her younger brother Jeremy's legal guardian)has not been told there are vampires and werewolves yet, and because of that, she let vampires inside their house, and almost killed herself when she was compelled(brainwashed) by a vampire. If she knew about vampires, everyone in that house would be safe. lol Plus she's completely oblivious to everything around her that happened in the past season and a half: Both Elena and Jeremy have been kidnapped (actually, Elena has been twice), held hostage, and had several near-death experiences, and Jenna never noticed a thing.
Bottom line, Jenna's starting to remind me of Jake's dad in that respect.
So, has John ever been too much of a liability to be kept in the dark?

well it did get pretty close when they ran the Vampire episode "Bite Father, Bite Son". Jake's dad was causing a lot of problems but at the end he redeemed him self by being the fix to the problem... however beyond that one i don't know of any that was at least shown in the show.

It really depends on which way you look at it. Yes, Jonathan can be boneheaded at times and cause problems; however, can Jonathan handle the truth early on? Remember in the episode "Hero of the Hourglass," Jonathan dumps Susan for this very reason.
