As you may have noticed I deleted my original review of this album and replaced it with a new one, as I feel that there are some issues concerning this album that I need to clear up.
All The Right Reasons is the latest smash hit album from Nickelback, debuting with their new drummer Daniel Adair (replacing Ryan Vikedal).
This albums features a number of popular and sucessful hits including "Photograph", "Animals", "Far Away", "Savin" Me", "Rockstar" and the song that will debut as their 6th single in 2007 "If Everyone Cared"
A number of their songs however, have been played through a slightly different style. A softer, more slower paced style of rock, which has often been referred to as "pop" and is a style that just isn't, "Nickelback" so to speak.
Well first of all, I'd just like to say that the songs are nothing like pop songs. I wonder why the hell some people think that way. "Savin' Me" (often regarding as a pop song) is nothing like pop.
What really is different about the song? Nothing. It features all of Nickelback's classic sounds, including Chad Kroeger's old school Rock'n'Roll voice, backed by Ryan Peake's more softer, soothing vocals with the strumming of an acoustic guitar leading into the crushing guitar riffs of Chad Kroeger during the chorus.
This is a style Nickelback have played by several times before in songs such as "Someday", "Leader Of Men", "Should've Listened" and so on, and they were never referred to as pop. The only really difference between a song like "Savin' Me" and a song like "Someday" is the piano in the outro to the song.
But how is piano pop? I mean, popstars do use it but so do several bands such as System Of A Down, Breaking Benjamin, Jet, Wolfmother, and don't forget all those metal and hard rock bands like Cradle Of Filth, Killswitch Engage and Rammstein, who also use piano/keyboards.
Would you call any of those bands pop? A friend of mine told me it was because of the strings featured in the background of the song. I have just one thing to say to that, strings were not only featured in Someday, but also in Curb! What is more Nickelback then Curb?
The song on this album most referred to as pop would have to be "Far Away". Now, I'll admit this is not my favourite Nickelback song but I would never regard it as pop in my wildest of dreams.
I've heard a lot of people say the song is bad because love songs are not Nickelback's style, but that really isn't true. Many of Nickelback's songs are based on love, it's just more focused on things like the ramifications of love, or the downfalls of relationships and not about the more obvious kinds of love.
But for once Nickelback have written a love song, yet people are hating it. Why? Because it's not telling a story about someone having their heart broken (pretty crap reason for not liking it if you ask me)
I've heard a lot of rap and R&B songs about love too, one again, does that make them pop? No.
Basically, what I'm saying is you can't expect a band that are over a decade old to not slightly change their style over time. Several other bands have made slight changes to their style, much like Nickelback and I've never heard their fans freak out over the changes.
To me, the songs are great, Nickelback have really explored some new boundaries in their songs but not left their classic style behind as featured in the more grunge type, faster paced songs such as "Follow You Home", "Fight For All The Wrong Reasons", "Animals", "Next Contestant" and "Side Of A Bullet" if that isn't satisfying enough, listen to "Rockstar" you cannot get more Nickelback then that song.
If you're still not happy, I've got one thing to say to you. This is how Nickelback play now, so you can either put up with it, or shut up about it.
By this album, you will not regret it.
