Yeah, well seeing as I've been reviewing a lot of my favourite bands who are releasing new albums soon, I thought I'd give YC's "Ocean Avenue" one, seeing as I've heard recently they're expected to have a 3rd studio album out, sometime this year.
Anyway, what can I say? This album is pretty cool. Not as 'rock' as their follow up "Lights And Sounds" but still a really good listen.
Confused as their debut album (was really their 4th) the band kick off with the single "Way Away" an awesome song combining rock, harmony and meaningful lyrics all into one package.
They followed up with the title track "Ocean Avenue" and soon with "Only One" which became known as one of their biggest songs to date.
Most of the songs on this album had the potential to be singles as well, such as "Breathing", "Empty Apartment", "Miles Apart", "Back Home" and the emotional song dedicated to the Firefighters who lost their lives in the 9/11 tragedy "Believe".
But the others, weren't as good. A lot of them seemed like 'filler' songs just their to keep a space between the smash hits. "Life Of A Salesman", "Twenty Three" and "Inside Out" were okay, but it was "View From Heaven" and "One Year, Six Months that dissapointed me.
They were soft and acoustic, which I usually like, but the style was too sort of... Country/Western sounding, which doesn't exactly go with a Punk Theme band.
Anyway, other then that, great album! I really think you should consider buying it.
