"Saturate" is the debut album from Pennsylvanian post-grunge band, Breaking Benjamin. Featuring their first hit "Polyamorous" and to a lesser extent their follow up singles "Skin" and "Medicate".
So, what can be said about this album? Well, obviously it wasn't as popular as the ones that followed it, "We Are Not Alone" and "Phobia", but it still has a really interesting sound in a number of songs that hint upon the great hits this band were about to produce.
At first, I wasn't a major fan of this album. I liked "Polyamorous" from previous experience of the song, but other then that I didn't really venture too far beyond Track 5 after my first run through the album and was bored with it within the next week.
So, I set the album aside for a couple of weeks more. Only to dig it up from the bottom of my CD Collection once again and suddenly find an appreciation for the songs on it. Almost as if I had suddenly 'matured' and adapted to the 'old-school' Breaking Benjamin style.
I was able to find the 'Hidden Jewels' of the album (excluding "Polyamorous") such as "Phase", "Shallow Bay", "Medicate", "Home" (a song based lyrically on the Wizard Of Oz, believe it or not) and the Hidden Track attached to "Shallow Bay", "Forever".
If you're anything like me, you'll find these songs tedious and repetative within the first few listens, but just give it time. The songs will grow on you and they feature everything that it is loved about Breaking Benjamin to this day.
Their unique vocalist, heavy riffs and catchy choruses are just as common as the ones on "We Are Not Alone" or "Phobia" and you'll be bound to find yourself singing along to them sooner or later (no pun intended. XD)
I would recommend this album to any fans of Rock or Grunge and label it a must have for any Breaking Benjamin fan. Just because nothing beats the classics! :D
