Okay guys, sorry for the wait, but I've had a lot of major problems with my computer (which led to me actually losing the original 10th chapter) as well as a lot of stuff I have to do for school... So yeah, I've been up to a lot lately, but it's finished now, so yeah. It's not that long, but hopefully it will be worth the wait. We'll just see.
Chapter 10 - A Whisper In The Shadows Jake's P.O.V This wasn’t good. I heard the sound of another crash, this time on the side opposite to the one where a similar crashing had occurred just seconds ago. “Gramps,” I repeated to myself, feeling my stomach jolting and my heart racing. He’d been in the lower floor, all by himself.
“Oh sh*t,” I exclaimed, before running towards the edge of the building, looking to try and land upon the sidewalks below and see what happened. But the noise had been loud enough to attract the attention of passing pedestrians and motorists who were stopping and pointing towards the shop.
Pointing at what though? I still didn’t know, but I had to find out. Gramps could be in serious trouble.
“Jake, what is it?” Rose called from behind, trying to get an answer out of me, even though the facts all seemed pretty clear. She followed my every step I covered, trying to stop me and calm me down.
“Gramps?” I said, slowly creaking the door open and peering through “Gramps, are you there?” I said louder this time, hearing my own voice echo off of the walls. The light upon the ceiling was flickering, almost as if it was about to die completely. They’d tried to cut the power.
“Eye of the Dragon,” I said, glancing through the dark patches of darkness that fell upon the room. It wasn’t that I had trouble seeing, I just felt suspicious that there still might be someone hiding away, that I might miss and cost myself later for doing so.
But there was no one, the room was empty, all I could see lying helplessly ahead of me behind the counter was the body of a man, left frail and worn, sprawled lifelessly against the cold, dark floor. Blood trickled from several deep severs upon his arms and over parts of his body.
“Oh my god,” I said when I saw him, slowly backing away in what felt like a mix of shook and disbelief. But eventually, I got a hold of myself and leant down on my knees sitting across from him, trying to make him regain consciousness.
“Grampda?” I said holding him and staring into his eyes, praying for any sign of response “Yo Gramps,” I continued “Wake up.” But there was still nothing, he was completely out cold.
“Jake,” I heard a voice behind me calling “What’s going on-” but with that, Rose saw what I was seeing and froze completely on the stop, staring at the frail, beaten body; that seemed to be struggling to even breath; at our feet.
“What-, what happened?” she said in a tone similar to the way mine had been a few seconds ago. “I don’t know,” I replied, pulling myself back up onto my feet, fuming. “But I’m going to find out “Jake, please don’t,” she said, putting her hand on my shoulder and trying to stop me “Remember what Jeff said.” “I don’t care what Jeff said,” I replied angrily “Shaun has taken this way too far and I’m not just going to sit back and let him think he can get away with this. I mean, sure, if we stay away from him we’ll avoid getting injured ourselves but during that time how many other people are going to suffer at Shaun’s hands? I don’t think I’m prepared to let that happen, let alone live with myself after knowing I was partly responsible for something like it.”
I saw Rose out of the corner of my eye, staring at me with a look of fear and uncertainty written upon her face, but then they darted back to the site of Gramps lying before me and I returned to struggling to get a response from him once again. “Quickly,” I cried desperately to her “Call 911, or the Dragon Council. I don’t care, just get some help!”
She nodded and went back over to the counter top, throwing aside any books or papers that had fallen upon it in during the disturbance that had just transpired here moments ago, as she struggled to find the phone amongst the wreckage.
But suddenly, underneath the mess she’d cleared she saw something that made her stop and stare upon it deeply for several passing seconds, I was too busy with Gramps to notice her stopping right away, but after a few seconds I suddenly realised the overwhelming silence that had filled the room.
“Rose,” I said, turning to see her standing over the counter and looking down upon it blankly “What is it?” “Jake look,” Rose said, picking up what she’d been staring at and handing it to me “They left a note!” I ran over and snatched it up from the surface, still trying to contemplate who ‘they’ were; I took it into my hands and scanning over the words. Puzzled by what I’d seen, I re-read them, slowly this time, but it was still the same thing to me.
“If actions speak louder then words,” I said, reading what had been written in large, dark, almost gothic and sinister letters upon the paper “No attack will speak louder then words of the unheard voice…” I continued, looking up at Rose still uncertain of how to take this. “What’s that supposed to mean?” I said, not expecting Rose to have a clear either. “I don’t know,” she replied “But it doesn’t sound good.”
“You can say that again,” I said, placing the note back onto the counter top and returning to the fallen, limp body of my grandfather. I noticed a slight stirring from him and I could still see life in him. His heart was still beating as Rose had mentioned, and I could see his chest slowly rising and falling as he inhaled and exhaled air, though his breaths weren’t the deepest.
I watched him groan slightly, before trying his best to lift up his neck and search the room, but he struggled to summon the strength even to do that.
I made my way over, feeling my blood boil at the same of him in so much pain, to a point where he looked as though he could barely carry on. I didn’t know who or what had done this, but I knew it would involve Shaun somehow, and he was going to pay.
“Gramps,” I said, an intense rage even being fuelled through my voice as I thought of Shaun “Who did this to you?” I added, continuing in a more determined tone, desperate to find answers. But he didn’t reply. He seemed almost too weak to even open his mouth and form the words. Maybe he didn’t even know, and it had just been some sort of sneak attack. “Gramps,” I said, looking over him and repeating the words “Who did this?”
“Shaun,” he replied weakly “That b*stard,” I said angrily “I knew he was behind this! Don’t worry Gramps,” I continued “I’m going to make him pay for this, I will-” “No Jake,” he said again, managing to speak loud enough to stop me “This time, he wasn’t alone.” “What?” I asked “But that’s not possible, how could he have reformed the Huntsclan overnight?” “I don’t think it was the Huntsclan,” Rose said from behind me, taking her turn to study the note. “Then who?” I said, looking at her still with shock written strongly in my voice.
Shaun’s P.O.V “You see kid,” the Hunter who I was still yet to be properly introduced to, said across from “You give a little, and you always get something back.”
He was right, all I’d given him was my word, my word that I would join him and he had proven that he would go through with his part of the deal by distracting the old man, that Dragon’s master, long enough for me to have my way with him. I was grateful, but still unsure of how to take him, and if I could trust him or not. I didn’t even know his name.
“Who are you?” I said, puzzled as I continued to trail along his side. By now, we were already several blocks away from the scene of the crime. This man, despite his age, was incredibly quick. He was definitely a clan member of some sort, but I still wanted to know which.
“They call me Hush,” he said in a virtually emotionless tone, not even making eye contact with me. “That is all that is important to you. Not my really name, or my real life identity, for that is in the past, back when I was lost, unsure of what to do… As far as I know, I want to put all those times behind me.”
His words had been my exact thoughts just moments ago, I wanted to put all of the past I had as Shaun behind me. All the time I’d spent with Jeff as his brother hadn’t be real, and it might as well have been forgotten about completely. I had no family now, and this was the only place I could turn.
“Yeah, you’re right,” I replied, before stopping suddenly as I realized something. “Hey,” I continued, stopping him “When am I actually going to get to see this clan you keep talking about?”
“What do you mean?” he replied gruffly “Well,” I said “You said you had men, did you not?” “I certainly did,” he said back “Okay,” I continued “So where are they? You want me to lead them don’t you?”
“No Shaun,” he continued “I think you misunderstood what I meant when I said, ‘what do you mean’”. “I’m not following you,” I replied “Well,” he continued, raising his fist into the air “The men I have waiting for you have actually been here the entire time.”
Suddenly, he threw down his fist and struck against his open palm, without taking his eyes off of me, almost as if he was using some kind of sign language. I stared back at him, still confused by him, unsure of what it was he was doing, but within the next few seconds I knew.
From out of nowhere, appearing in several completely different spots; corners of the alleyways, the emergency exits stairs and ladders a few feet above us, and several other vantage points I missed in the confusion came a large group of men, dressed thickly in black uniform.
They were armed fairly lightly, though they gripped their weapons with malicious intent, anger surging through the eyes of each and every one of them as they stepped forward, towards their master.
“The Unheard Voice has assembled,” he said, almost ceremonially “Now, meet your new master,” he added, drawing his fingers over to me.
I felt a smile crawl over my face as I saw the vast group of Clan members surrounding me; some even holding their hands out in front of their chests as a symbol of respect; the idea of getting my revenge upon Jake and Rose was no longer a distant vision but it had become far more clear to me now and felt as though it was held within the hands of fate.
With an army like this, I knew I could do it. I could feel the American Dragon’s blood on my hands already.
“Wow,” I said to Hush, still with a sadistic grin on my face “You’re good.” ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yeah I know, a bit of another cliff hanger but don't worry, I should take as long with the next chapter (well, so I hope =P ) and I already have a pretty good idea of what's going to happen in it.
Until then, R&R as always. Thanks guys! =D

Nananana, new chapter! XD
Hope you guys like this one, because I took ages with it and it doesn’t feel like it was worth the wait to me, but that’s probably just me being paranoid and stuff. XD
Sorry about taking my sweet time tho, I was focusing more on DOJ and ROS because I don’t plain for those fics to be anywhere as long or detailed as this one and thought I might be able to knock off a few chapters, or maybe even the stories themselves within my break. So yeah, while you’re waiting you might want to check out my fic The Diary Of Jane, because I’ve really been on a role with that as of late.
Anyway, back to YTHR: Hope you guys like this chapter! Oh yeah, and there are two little surprises in this next chapter; and one of them is that it will feature the song “Had Enough” by Breaking Benjamin. As for the second, well… Just read, I don’t want to spoil it for anyone.
Chapter 11 – So It’s Come To This Rose’s P.O.V “What are you talking about?” Jake asked “Who else could it have been?” “I don’t know,” I replied “But you’ve got it admit, the chances of Shaun already having reinforced the Huntsclan are high unlikely.” “Rose,” he said “Who else would sink this low?” “Good point,” I replied “Well, I suppose he could’ve just done it alone.”
“No,” Jake said “Gramps said Shaun wasn’t alone, so he must’ve had someone with him, but who? I mean, do you remember the Huntsclan ever being associated with someone else before?” “No, not that I can remember,” I said, trying to think of the allies we’d had in the past, but nothing came to my mind.
Jake read the note over again, out loud as if hoping maybe there was something he’d missed that I would be able to notice and point out to him. Some clue, or distinguish feature of any sort. “The words of the Unheard Voice…” he repeated, quoting from the paper once again “Maybe that has something to do with it. Unheard Voice, ring any bells?” “No, nothing familiar to me,” I replied.
Jake sighed and cradled his face in his hands, this had really upset him, and I can understand why. I hope this didn’t break him, I hope Shaun hadn’t stirred too much anger up inside of Jake, because I wanted to fail what Jeff had said. He had warned us of Shaun’s big plan and that we shouldn’t fight until we were ready.
Jake believed he was ready to fight, but he wasn’t. He wasn’t ready until I was, because I was not going to let him fight on his own.
“This must be it,” Jake said eventually, taking a seat and turning the note in his hands. Almost as though there was an aggravation inside of him, an uncertainty and anxiety towards things to come. “What?” I asked, afraid of where Jake was heading. “This must be Shaun’s plan,” Jake continued “He’s formed an alliance with.. Well, someone, and he’s using it to get to us.” “Yeah, that sounds about right,” I replied
“God d*mnit,” Jake cursed, throwing the note aside, frustrated. “What is it?” I asked “I just can’t believe this,” Jake exclaimed angrily “Why does he always have to push it just that little bit too far? Why does he always have to get you and everyone else you care about involved?”
“That’s just how he is,” I said “He gets “Yeah, well I’m going to get to him alright,” Jake added, before heading towards the door, but I grabbed his arm before he get too far. “Jake, what are you doing?” I asked, though it was all pretty clear. “What?” he said “He’s gone too far and I want to end before he even gets to think about taking it further.”
“No Jake, please don’t,” I said, still with a firm grip on his arm “Look what he did to gramps, that was trying to be low profile and discreet, imagine what he could do to with no fear of warning anyone.” “I don’t care,’ he seethed “ “Please Jake,” I said, stepping in front of him and taking his hands “Don’t do this… For me.” “Okay,” he said, squeezing my hand gently “I won’t… For you.” “Thankyou,” I replied, before making my way behind the counter.
“Well, while you’re back there,” Jake said “Could you call 911 for Gramps? Cause he really needs it. I’ll just stay out here and watch him.” “Sure,” I said, heading over to the phone in the back room, picking it up and holding the receiver to my ear. But suddenly, I heard a sound; a rattling of bells to be more specific. The bells on the front door of the shop.
“Jake?” I said, as I heard the noises continue. I ran back out to the front room to see Gramps still lying motionless behind the counter, and Jake nowhere to be seen. The door was still blowing closed in the wind as I just caught a glimpse of him taking off into the air.
The direction he flew took him over unfamiliar territories of the city, but I still had an idea of where it might lead and what, or in this case who, might lie at the end of his journey.
“Something tells me he’s not coping too well,” I said to myself as I watched him drifting away.
Jake’s P.O.V [A/N: Sorry to cut you off here, but the song “Had Enough” is introduced during this next chapter and just so you don’t get confused, I’ll let you guys know now that there is a lot of switches made from Jake’s P.O.V to Shaun’s during the ‘songfic’ part of this chapter; and basically there are no headings to say that the P.O.Vs have been switched, so you’ll have to work it out on your own. They’re all pretty clear and easy to figure out though.] I had flown furiously in the only direction that felt right to me for about a half an hour, but I still hadn’t caught a glimpse of Shaun yet. I knew he would be around; he wouldn’t be hiding out after that attack, especially now that he has protection. He’d rather bait me in for an assault to weaken me up, and maybe try and get into my head. Well I was ready, I wanted to fall for his trap, just so I had another shot and showing him how I felt, in the only way he seemed to understand and portray emotion.
After a few minutes of glancing around the area, I landed upon an apartment rooftop, completely surrounded by darkness. Abandoned, I could only assume and tried to use that area as a vantage point, in case Shaun was waiting somewhere lower on the ground or inside a building. Basically anywhere I wouldn’t be able to see from the air.
But my instincts had been right the first time, and Shaun was a lot closer then I thought. “Well, well,” I heard him say, his voice making every vein and once of blood within my body boil “Dragon,” “Shaun,” I said stepping forward and trying to take a shot at him “You son of a b*tch.” “Hey there, easy,” he said, backing down “Don’t pull anything you’re just going to regret later.”
“Where are they?” I asked, looking around me. Expecting Shaun’s backup to appear any time soon “Because I don’t care. I don’t care how much they out-number me by, I don’t care. Make them come out; I will make sure they got what’s coming to them.” “Well,” he said, snapping his fingers “It’s a shame you can’t see what’s coming to you.”
Then I was suddenly hit hard, from behind. A brutal shot delivered to the back of my head, as I collapsed forward, dazed and confused by this sudden attack. I stared back to see who had hit me, but there was nothing there; just darkness. I sprung back up to my feet and threw my held over my shoulder in a quick glance, muttering the words “eye of the dragon,” to myself, staring through the darkness of the shadows.
I was able to make him out perfectly this time, but even then it was too late. One of them, I’m not sure whether it was the same one or not, but one of them came at me with a frontal assault throwing a vicious kick right into my head, as I suddenly felt myself being throwing back from a completely different force, before realizing at the exact same thing I’d been kicked in the head, another on of Shaun’s men had kicked out my back legs causing me to fall backwards, hard.
I crashed hard against the concrete roof, holding my arm against my head which ached front and back, as I struggled to my feet alongside Shaun who took in every second, laughing as he watched me stumbling back up.
“You’d think by now you would’ve learnt, huh Jake?” he said smugly. I glared at him angrily, before noticing I was being lashed at once again. But this time, I would learn from my mistakes.
For a second time, both men were trying to simultaneously strike me, front and back, I saw them slowly leaping up, their legs stretched out, ready to strike. But once they were in the air, it was too late for them to turn back and no way for them to stop. Even after their target had moved.
At the last second, I dove across avoiding the two Huntsmen’s their kicks, causing them to run straight into each other collapsing against the ground with ugly an fall. The second man was showing a few signs of life, and managing to struggle to his feet but I leapt back up onto mine and lashed at him hard and fast with a sweep from my tail, sending him head over heels with an ugly thud against the ground.
The smile on Shaun’s face faded as he saw me slowly walk over to him, his two Henchmen down and out, sprawled upon the ground.
“You and I both know that that’s not the best you’ve got,” I said c*ckily, as I made my way over to him. “Yes,” Shaun replied before raising his hand and gesturing it forward “That’s right.” I was shocked by what I saw, suddenly almost wishing I hadn't challenged Shaun to go further. Because out of the darkness stepped what seemed like thousands more Henchmen, armed and ready to fight, dressed in a way that was so similar like the Huntsclan it was creepy; and gave me this weird gut feeling, almost like déjà vu.
“Oh I’m sorry,” he added “How rude of me to forget. Jake, allow me to introduce you to the Unheard Voice.” “The Unheard Voice?” I repeated to myself, before remembering the note “I knew it,” I said to him angrily “I knew you were behind this! Only someone like you would sink so low.” “Well, it wouldn't be any fun unless we had a pissed off dragon fighting us now would it?" Shaun replied smugly
“So it’s come to this, huh?” I said “You’re going to try and take me and everything else with me. My family, is that it?” “That’s exactly it,” Shaun replied “But that’s just you. You see, I’ve got something up my sleeve for each and every person that inhabits this city. All their lives will never be the same again, whether they’re familiar with the magical underworld or not.” “They’ll never believe you!” I yelled back
“Do you think I’m concerned by what they believe?” Shaun said “Do you think what’s believable or socially ridiculous concerns me? No. No, it doesn’t. But whether they believe or not, they will be persuaded soon enough. For seeing, is truly believing; and if they don’t believe me, they’ll have no choice but to see it for their very own eyes…”
“You’ve crossed a line Shaun,” I said, stepping closer to him, raising my finger and pointing it at his chest “Before, I was just sick of you, and then I couldn’t stand you… Now, I want nothing more then to see you suffer, I wish you were still locked up in that cell, so I could see you slowly rot away and die.”
“Welcome to my world,” Shaun seethed through his teeth after moving closer towards me. He raised his arm, signalling to what I could only assume were the men around him.
I looked over my shoulder and saw them as they surrounded us, before slowly moving out, leaving a great distance clear upon the top of the building where Shaun and I stood, alone, watching each other angrily as I raised my arms and he raised his.
“You want a shot at me? Well, here’s you chance…” he added sadistically “There’s nothing holding me back now Shaun,” I replied determinedly, feeling my fists clenching at the thought of being able to have my way with him. “I saw to it myself,” he said “For there is no other way I would want it…”
“You’ll wish you never had,” I added “Everything you’ve done to her, you’re going to regret. Everything ounce of agony you’ve unleashed upon her, you’re going to wish you could take back. Because it’s not going to be her you’re hurting anymore, it’s going to be yourself. I’m going to make you feel her pain…” “I hope it kills me,” he replied “Just so I know it’s working…”
That was when he lashed at me out of nowhere with a kick. I stumbled backwards from the force, but managed to stay on my feet, striking at the back of his feet once he had returned to them again. He collapsed hard onto his back and rolled over out of the way as I threw my fist down at him, attempting to hit him while he was on the ground. He leaped up quickly and tried to strike the arm I’d just thrown down, but I blocked his shot at the last second.
He had gotten more familiar with fighting again, I could tell. He was beginning to move at his regular speed and strike with a lot more force and power. But it would never be enough.
He may have had determination in him to avenge his father’s legacy but it did not compare to the rage I felt inside of me when I thought of everything he’d ever done and what he still planned to do. How he was never remorseful for any of his actions and never caring about anyone but himself it just stirred a rage up inside of me that made me stronger and more determined then I had ever been before.
Milk it for all it’s worth, Make sure you get there first. The apple of your eye, The rotten core inside.
We are all prisoners, Things couldn’t get much worse. I’ve had it up to here, You know your end is near.
We were surrounded by them as we fought, as I was trapped inside a wall of enemies like some kind of prisoner. I could feel their eyes hang over me with every move I made, but that wasn’t enough to break my focus off of Shaun. I kept my eyes focused on his the entire time, watching the anger inside of them as he threw his blows at me. I could practically see down to his soul, the rotten core inside of him.
It was that part of him that had been pushing me and pushing me, that part that had driven me this far to a point where I wanted to see him suffer. I’d had even of everything he had put us through and I just wanted to end it all here and now.
You had to have it all, Well have you had enough? You greedy little b*stard, You will get what you deserve.
When all is said and done, I will be the one. To leave you in your misery and hate what you’ve become.
The dragon had grown much stronger over time, there was no denying it. I could feel the extra power delivered behind every blow as I fought him off, blocking and retaliating with strikes of my own.
While I had been locked away for all those years he’d been training, preparing for a moment he foresaw and knew was going to come. Like him or not, I had to give him props; it was smart. But intelligence would never be enough.
I don’t think he knew what I was capable of, I don’t think he knew just how far I would go to get what I want, but he sure as hell should’ve learnt it by now. I would burnt this whole world down and take my own life just to cost him his, just to know his last few seconds had ended in agony.
Intoxicated eyes, No longer live that life. You should’ve learnt by now, I’ll burn this whole world down.
Even with all Shaun’s henchmen around me and knowing the fate I would risk by simply being in this fight, I still didn’t care. I still wouldn’t let myself be afraid of the things Shaun had done and was still doing now.
Everything he did was unpredictable and you could never know what he was thinking. He’d shown this to us before, but I had taken all the pain he could deliver
Shaun thought he had won this battle but after everything he’d put himself through and sacrificed just get to where he was now wasn’t worth it. He’d lost nothing but life, lost time and slowly lost what was left of his mind.
I need some piece of mind, No fear of what it’s behind. You think you’ve won this fight, You’ve only lost your mind.
I felt thunder raging above as, and rain beginning to fall as our battle raged on. He caught my leg when I threw a quick front kick at him, but leapt up and used my free left leg to kick off his chest and thrown myself backwards landing on my feet in a back flip.
I tried to follow up, but slipped on the soaked ground losing my balance and collapsing into a heap upon the ground.
My arm had cracked against the ground and a graze now sat upon it, seeping thickly from the wound. I struggled up, and looked to Jake angrily; trying to show him I was still going to fight.
He accepted my challenge, kicking me hard in the ribs and throwing me back against the ground. I hit the back of my head, and fell motionlessly against the ground. My eyes growing heavy and almost sliding into the back of my head.
I was nowhere near ready to defend myself against the second kick he threw against the back of my head, I just slumped forward helplessly, feeling my head rushing; and when the third came it was just like being hit by a truck. A flash, an impact, and you’re down and out before you know it.
You had to have it all, Well have you had enough? You greedy little b*stard, You will get what you deserve.
When all is said and done, I will be the one. To leave you in your misery and hate what you’ve become.
I watched Shaun as his eyes glazed over and lost all focus, as he slowly collapsed to the ground, following up from the third shot I’d delivered to the back of his head.
He fell motionless to the ground and I felt a smile crawl across my face when I saw him lying motionlessly on the ground and I knew I had him right where I wanted him.
Then, I gave in to a side of me I’d never known before. A side similar to the one of Shaun’s that I had grown to hate. But really, it was like fighting fire with fire, as I leant beside him and grabbed him firmly by the back of the neck, clenching my fist as it trembled with absolute rage.
His clan surrounded me, followed orders to stay back as they watched their master being overthrown by a number of vicious shots to the skull and face. I drew my fist back over and over again, my mind screaming as I released all the anger and hatred of Shaun I had boiled up inside of me.
I let go off him eventually, letting him slump helplessly to the ground as I pulled away in shock, only just realising what I had done and what I had given into. The callous, ruthless side of me I had never known. I cradled my face in my hands, screaming out in frustration.
Hold me down, I will live again. Pull me out. I will break it in. Hold me down, Better in the end. Hold me down.
I was lying dizzily against the hard concrete roof, feeling the rain crashing down upon my face and I could still feel him towering over me as he pulled away from me after
One thing was for sure, I knew the pain I put her through was getting to him; and with every ounce I punishment I received was just knowing what I had put her through already.
But suddenly, out of the corner of my eye I had enough consciousness in me to notice the one thing that saved me. Within the crowd of men who I’d been assigned to lead and trade stood out the most familiar face of them all, it was Hush. Slowly creeping out of the group when Jake wasn’t looking and quickly sliding a staff into my grip.
I felt my fingers wrap around it gently, making sure it definitely was there before I took it firmly in my grip and turned on my side slightly, making sure Jake wouldn’t be able to see it.
I could hear each steep he took as he came towards me. The ambience surrounded us was still dead still and completely silent,
You had to have it all, Well have you had enough? You greedy little b*stard, You will get what you deserve.
When all is said and done, I will be the one. To leave you in your misery and hate what you’ve become.
Heaven help you. Heaven help you.
I knew I’d fallen for one of his tricks once again, when I felt that familiar burn of serrated metal tearing at my nerve, flowing through me and tingling into my brain as it triggered panic inside of me and I buckled down onto one leg, holding the other tightly in anguish.
“Sorry dragon,” Shaun said mercilessly, clenching his staff as he staggered over to me. Still regaining his consciousness from my last attack “But you know, power in numbers.” I writhed in pain, holding my slashed leg as I slowly struggled to my feet, determined not to back down. I wouldn’t let him win this way, there was too much pride at stake. ”You’re not serious?” Shaun said, slightly taken back. “What's the matter Shaun?” I asked mockingly “Worried you’ll lose?”
“No,” Shaun replied simply, not even slightly taken back by my taunts, as he cracked the handle of his staff over my head. I fell back lying motionless against the ground, my head aching and ears ringing from the blow they'd just received. "However, if I were you I'd be worried about my well being right about now," he added, before raising his staff again. Looking to drive it right into my chest.
Suddenly his focus was broken by the sound of a cry, a battle cry, one that was all too familiar to me, as a figure leapt up onto the building and drilled him in the back of the neck with a swift kick, planting herself carefully on the ground in between him and me.
Shaun stumbled against Rose's kick and glared across at her, before grasping his staff firmly back into his grip, returning steadily to his feet and beginning to make his way over to her.
"Well, well," he said "Glad you could join us“ But before his mouth had formed around those few last words, Rose completely cut him off. She walked towards him, absolute fury fuming in her eyes, before drawing her hand out and slapping Shaun across the face, hard [A/N: Veronika, if you’re reading this that was for you. XDD]. An impact that stood out over the roaring thunder. Had she had enough of Shaun also? I’d say so
It was unbelievable. At that moment I didn’t know whether to give a cheer off joy or fall to the ground laughing, either way the sight could not have been sweeter, and I’m sure Rose felt a lot better after “A**hole,” she added, kicking him in the ribs for good measure before making her way back over to me. [A/N: *clap clap clap* XD]
Shaun staggered back, completely stunned by her actions. His arrogant, sadistic presence was no more; he was just gawking at Rose in complete shock. She wasn’t scared off him anymore, after all those nights of being haunted by him in her dreams, she decided not to back down from him face to face.
After a moment or two of clasping his hand to his jaw, he stood up angrily, rage boiling through his eyes as he rose to his feet. He tried to make his way over to Rose, but I stopped him in his path getting up to my feet once again and standing before him. Neither of us would back down to him anymore. We’d put up with his pain for too long and we’d both had enough. It was all going to end here.
Shaun backed off again, signalling his Henchmen to follow his lead as he made his way out, like a scolded dog, stopping momentarily to glance over his shoulder and coldly utter the words "We'll be back dragon. Just you wait."
Then, the rooftop was empty once again as the Unheard Voice faded into the shadows of the night, never to be seen by a naked eye again. I felt the rain that was still pouring down upon as heavily trickle over my bare dragon skin and I shuddered against the cold; as the blood from where Shaun cut me seeped down my thigh and tainted the fallen rainwater upon the ground beneath it.
I stared across at Rose who was regaining her breath, her now soaked, long hair falling over her face in the wind as every breath she took came out in steamy mists. “You okay?” I asked eventually “Yeah, fine.” She replied, standing up straight again “You?” “It could be worse,” I answered. “So, you think I’m ready yet?” she asked with a smile. “I’d say so,” I replied, returning the smile.
After a moment or two Rose would take the time to look at the damage I’d taken from the fight. Luckily for me, it hadn’t been so bad. Shaun had made some pretty bad mistakes and paid for them, but in the end he was right. Strength in numbers did win over. But luckily I escaped with only a cut on the leg. “Jake, I can’t believe you did this,” she said looking down and examining my leg. It was still bleeding rather heavily. She held something against the wound applying pressure to stop it from seeping. I’m not sure what it was but it had a rough and crumply surface, it could’ve been the note left at Gramps’ shop.

A/N: Too big to fit into one post, sorry. XD
“I can’t believe you did that,” I replied with a slight laugh. She looked up at me with an almost hurt expression on her face. “Yeah. I’m sorry…” I said back, feeling guilty for what I had said and done. Lying to her, feeding her empty broken promises, usually I’d never dream of doing anything like that to her. “It's' okay," she replied "But I'm worried about what you're letting him make you become."
"What do you mean?" I asked "He’s getting inside your head,” she replied “You can try and deny it all you want but if he keeps stirring these feelings up inside of you you’re going to feel a rage that can only be calmed by taking his life.”
“He wants you to feel this way,” Rose continued “he knows he can’t fight you on his own, which is why he stayed away from you when he had no one on his side and why he’s trying to draw you to him now.”
“I know, I know” I replied eventually “What Jeff said, right?” “Right,” she said back “But when will we be ready?” I asked “I mean, I spent the past four years preparing for this. What will be enough?”
“You won’t be ready, until I’m ready…” she said eventually "We can't fight him alone. It's not like that anymore..." “Okay,” I replied, slowly catching my breath “Well, I’d say you were ready. So…From now on we fight together only, deal?” “Deal,” she replied with a smile.
“Come on,” I said, kneeling down and gesturing for her to climb onto my back “Let’s get out of here.” “I’m sure you’ll be fine though,” I added, as she crawled on “With hands like that you’ll be fighting off all of those Unheard Voice punks, with ease.”
And as we headed back I suddenly realized how all the events occurring in our lives were like clocks being turned backwards and we were reliving everything we had to gone through, just to be together. Now, even after we’d gotten what we wanted most in life we were still fighting to keep it alive and back to fighting just to see another day.
I didn’t want to have to go through it all again, especially after Jeff who was able to cope with it so well, that is until he sacrificed himself, having dealt with it most of his life.
But now, we were alone and all we had were his words to guide his. We couldn’t run, we couldn’t hide, but we had to do our best to survive. I just hope this time we can learn from our mistakes… ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yeah, I know. My writing sucks a** =P
XD Anyways, that was a pretty fun chapter to do considering I got to make Rose slap the sh*t out of Shaun and then call him an a**hole (For some reason I’ve always thought Rose calling someone an a**hole would be hilarious XD) So yeah, I had fun with it. Hope you guys appreciated it too! XD
Oh yeah and once again, I don’t own the song “Had Enough”. As much as I’d like to, it belongs to a Mr. Ben Burnley and the rest of the gang from Breaking Benjamin, so yeah… Cudos to them! =D
And uh, I’m pretty much done here. I’ll try to update ASAP! Until then, please R&R.

XD Thanks guys! I appreciate your reviews.
Anyway, as some of you may know (or have probably just found out a few minutes ago XD) I'll be gone on camp for like 5 days and won't be updating.
So I decided to get this chapter out of the way beforehand so you wouldn't have to wait as long for an update.
It's not my best, or my longest, but I'm sure they'll still be at least one thing in there that's worth reading. XD
So, I hope you like! I'm sure going out and kayaking for 5 back to back days will give me lots of time to think and plan for the next chapter, and I should be able to update soon... Y'know, once I'm back. XD
BTW, the chapter title sucks but it's all I've got for now. I'll make it something better when I get back. XD
Chapter 12 - Return Of A Rival The night was late when Rose and I rushed Gramps to the hospital. We had to make our way back first which was a struggle. Neither of us really knew where we were, we had both just been lead their by the same trail. Whether it was concern, etermination, anger or fear, we were completely driven by our emotions, trying to find Shaun. It wasn’t until we’d seen face to face once again that we realized just how much trouble we were in and how badly we needed each other.
Well, I wasn’t sure about Rose but I hadn’t really realized this myself until now. I’d worked so hard and so long on being ready to fight him once again that I was determined I could take anything he threw at me, but I couldn’t have been anymore wrong.
He’d been right when he said that he had the power in numbers. Last time he was at our necks he was trying to pick us apart psychologically and formed weaknesses where we thought we had none, but know that we’d adjusted to his ‘mind games’, he adjusted his strategy and once again formed himself an advantage, in a completely different area to the last time. Power in numbers.
I guess it really isn’t what you know, but who you know that defies power, and Shaun proved that he had some powerful allies out there.
Once we’d found ourselves back at the shop, Gramps was lying right we where’d left him and I suddenly felt incredible selfish knowing I’d left him them, possibly to die, I didn’t know. His condition was obviously not good, I didn’t know what his chances were now, now that we’d been gone for hours when he should’ve been taken away as soon as we’d found it.
The rest of it was a blur, I wasn’t even 100% sure about what was going on at the time either. I was scared, concerned for my Grandfather’s life. I knew I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if his life was lost because of my selfish lust for revenge. Rose had been on the phone to the ambulance as we made our way back, and they were there minutes after we’d returned to the shop.
Then before I knew it we were in the hospital, sitting in a waiting room awaiting to hear Gramps’ condition.
“I hope he’s okay,” I said as I continued to pace back and fourth down the small area in the waiting room hall. “I’m sure he’ll be fine,” Rose replied, as she got to her feet, taking my hand and gently stroking it in hers “He’s not ordinary grandparent after all.” “You’re right about that,” I said with a grin and holding her hand in mine. “Just sit down here and try not to let it bother you” she said, returning to hear sit and easing me down with her “I know what Shaun did looked bad but Shaun wouldn’t have intentionally tried to kill him, he just wants to send you a message.” “Yeah, you’re probably right,” I replied, as I put my arm around her, lying back comfortably.
And then we waited. I didn't know how long exactly, but the time was burning away slowly. I just sat back staring at the door leading to the room Gramps was in, wondering what was going on in there, and how he was doing.
I drifted off to sleep a few times, determined not to leave that one spot in the room just in case something happened. Gramps was a part of my family and I wanted to be there the second he was in trouble, or needed help. Even if it was beyond any of my experience.
Eventually, I heard the sound of a door opening and I lifted my head up, my eyelids hanging heavily upon my face as I struggled to keep them out.
I saw a man in a white coat stepping out of Gramps' room. The doctor who'd een assigned to examine Gramps, Dr Burton. I gently nudged Rose awake as she moaned contemptedly, streching her legs and arms out as I got out of the chair.
“How is he?” I asked as he stepped out of the room and over towards us. “He’s fine,” Dr Burton replied “A little shaken up, but other then that fine.” “Oh okay,” I said, sitting back down and sighing with relief “That’s good to know.” “Yes,” he replied “Well, he had a few quite major cuts that we had to clean up first, but other then that there wasn’t any fatal markings. He just needs some time to rest.” “I understand,” I said, still slightly taken back but what was happening, but nonetheless relieved to hear that he was okay.
“Now,” he said, turning his attention towards me “What about you?” “Huh, what about me?” I asked “Well you said you were involved in the accident too, didn’t you?” “Oh yeah,” I said, only just remembering the exact details of what I’d told him earlier as Gramps was been taking into the emergency room “I’m fine,” I added eventually “The collision caused a lot more of an impact on his side of the car then it did mine,” I continued, saying the first thing that came to my head.
“Yes, well it certainly shows,” Dr Burton replied, examining the gash across my head where I’d fallen against the ground hard, before producing a small ice pack “Put this against it to prevent any swelling.” “Okay,” I said, taking it “Thankyou.” “It’s no problem,” he replied “and you may visit your grandfather now if you wish, Mr. Long, but not for too long. He’ll need some rest.” “Thankyou,” I said “We’ll try to be quick.”
I turned away, trying not to walk gingerly on my leg. I didn’t want to give the Doctor any further suspicions about the ‘accident’ Gramps and I were in. He already seemed to be gettting the impression that some the injuries we’d obtained were a little ‘too brutal’ to have been caused by a mere car crash.
Rose followed behind me, her hand still reassuringly clenching mine as I slowly edged the door open, reluctantly stepping inside.
“Hey gramps,” I said with a reassuring grin, making my way over to his bed Rose following me “You feeling any better?” “Yes, much better,” he replied “The whole attack was just so…unexpected,” he continued “So many of them came out from the middle of nowhere, all at once. They took me completely by surprise and there was no way I could defend myself against him.” “Listen,” I said, looking down, ashamed “I’m sorry I got you involved in this.” “It’s no problem,” he replied with a tired smile “You did what anyone would’ve done in order to protect the one that they love and for that I am proud of you.”
“Did you see what any of them looked like?” Rose asked “Did they have a leader, or a master commanding them?” “No,” Gramps replied, coughing slightly “They seemed to just be following Shaun’s orders, but again I’m not 100% sure. It all happened so fast.” “Yeah, I know what you mean,” I replied, having only just recently experienced the Unheard Voice in action myself. “Jake,” he said worry and anxiety begin to build up in his voice “This is much worse then what we feared. Shaun is loss and in control of an incredibly powerful and unpredictable clan…”
“The Unheard Voice?” I said, cutting him off. “Yes. Not the most well known Clan, but to those who knew the name knew well enough to fear it. Ever member assigned or recruited was highly skilled and trained not only in areas of armed and unarmed combat, but stealth and assassination…” “What do they want with us?” Rose asked
“I don’t know,” Gramps replied “But I think it may have something to do with their lack of direction… They need a leader, and we all know there would be no one better to use and lead that kind of power then Shaun.” “That’s for sure,” I replied, adjusting the ice pack I was still holding against my forehead. “As soon as I knew Shaun was back,” Gramps continued “I took your word and immediately alerted the Dragon Council, calling out for help. I know you two are determined, and you’ve become much greater fighters in your age but I still think you need some assistance, especially if you’re going to be defending yourselves against such a high number of enemies. Which is why I called in for a favor from the Dragon Council…”
“Someone is on their way,” he added “They haven’t returned my message yet but I know they’ll be-” “Actually,” Rose said cutting in “They did…” “What do you mean?” Gramps asked her, as I looked across the same question written across my face. “When we were back at the shop, and you were getting ready to leave,” Rose said, looking at me before turning back to face Gramps “They sent a message saying there help was on the way, but just before we left for the hospital I was able to send a reply telling them where they could find us…” “So they’ll be here soon?” Gramps asked Rose “Yes,” she replied as I stared at them, puzzled by what was going on “In fact, he’s expected here any minute now.”
“Who?” I said, stumbling back slightly, still unsure of what was going on But then Gramps and Rose suddenly stopped and stared across at me. Well, not exactly at me. I was in there field of vision but I wasn’t the person they intended to look at. There was someone behind me “Why don’t you just find out for yourself?” Gramps said eventually, gesturing his hand over my shoulder and with that I turned around before almost completely falling out of my chair.
Even though he (he being the person who the dragon council had sent to help us) just like us, had aged so much over time his face was one that I would never forget for there was so much about him that had stayed the same, even through all the hairs that had passed. His dark eyes, the curly red hair that sat flatly atop of his head, and even the voice that left his mouth was one that all too familiar to me.
“Hey mates,” Fred said standing at the edge of the door, before removing his jacket and heading inside “You called?” I stared up at him in shock, out of all the people who could’ve come through that door he was the last one I expected. “Oh hell no…” I said groaning, and cradling my face in hands. It was true, I was going to getting help from the guy who would love nothing more then to hold smugly in my face the fact that I had a weakness. Oh well, that’s life for you… ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Um yeah, that's it. XD
So, sorry if that last chapter was in anyway suspenseful or cliff hanger-ish (if that is a word XD). I don't choose to go on these camps and I wouldn't if I didn't have to, but they're a mandatory part of our school curriculum, so yeah. I kinda have to XD
Anyway, please R&R! =D
BTW, while I'm gone why don't you check out my Fanfic Ideas thread and see if there's anything in there you'd like me to start work on when I get back.
