Well, time for another long awaited update! XD
Chapter 13 – Set Aside Our Differences
Jake’s P.O.V"What is he doing here?" I exclaimed to Gramps, staring at Rose and Gramps in shock.
"I was told the Jake-eroo needed some help," Fred said from behind me, causing me to stare over my shoulder. I stared over my shoulder back at him, still trying to take all of this in.
It was him alright. Even through the years that had past him by, I still wouldn't forget his face. Though some things had changed. Fred and I stood about roughly the same height now, after I'd finally gotten my growth spurt.
"Jake," Gramps replied eventually, causing me to turn around again "I know you two have had your differences in the past."
"Differences?" I sneered "What makes you think that?"
"…But you must understand the danger you are in," Gramps continued, ignoring my sarcasm.
"Yeah, I know…" I replied, going from confused, to irritated to ashamed once more "And you were only trying to help..."
"That’s right," Gramps said "Because like it or not, you two work incredibly well together when you cooperate. You just need to set your differences aside for awhile. I’m not asking you to do this for me, or for Fred, or for the Dragon Council but for the sake of the entire population. Magical and non-magical. Can you do that?"
I stared at him momentarily, before looking back at Fred and thinking about all the things that had happened between us. I guess I was overeacting. Sure, we'd been at each other's hair in the past, but deep down I knew we didn't really hate each other.
We were both dragons, and just as I had figured it out myself all those years ago I knew that we would have to work together once again, in order to stay alive. I knew we could do it. I mean, we did take on the Dark Dragon afterall, I'm sure this Unheard Voice Clan wouldn't be too much of a challenge.
"Yeah, you can count on me Gramps," I replied with a smile
"That’s good to know,” he said, smiling back at me “Your understanding is most appreciated."
"Now," he added "Perharps it's time you went home, it's getting late..."
"Okay," I replied, taking Rose's hand and helping her to her feet "We'll see you soon, I guess."
"Indeed, young one," Gramps replied with a smile.
"So," Fred said, as we paced down the Hospital hallways "You gonna fill me in on what's up?"
"Uh, sure," I replied "This is Rose, by the way," I added, remembering Rose and Fred hadn't met before.
"Rose this is Fred," I said "He's the Australian Dragon, as you probably heard."
"Hi," she said
"Hey," he replied back with a smile.
I cleared my throat, interupting them.
"Right," Fred said, turning back to me "So, what's up?"
"It's a long story," I said
"I've got time," he replied with a laugh
"It'd probably be best if we told him now," Rose said to me "Before it's too late."
"Okay," I replied "Hang on."
I stopped in the corner of one of the hallways and looked around carefully, pulling myself closer to Fred and dropping the tone of my voice.
"Y'know the Huntsclan?" I said, half whispering, half speaking aloud.
"I am familiar with them, yes." Fred replied
"Well, years ago we pretty much wiped them from existance.
"Who's 'we'?" Fred asked
"Did I mention this was gonna be a long story?"
"You touched on the fact, yes."
"Well, I dunno. I don't think now is the time..."
"Then when is the time?" Rose asked, from behind me
"Now," I replied "Just not here. It's too dangerous," I added "Let's get out of here."
"Suits me," Fred replied pulling away, from the sort of 'huddle' we'd formed, that had already attracted some of the attention of the people around us.
"There's a cofffee shop across the street?" Rose said hopefully
"Sure, why not," I said, taking her hand and heading towards the stars.
"You coming, 'mate'?" I asked Fred with a grin
"Hot on your tail as always, mate," he replied with a smile.
Meanwhile...
"D*mn," Hush exclaimed, tossing down his staff in frustration "I could’ve sworn this was a trail, but no.. We’ve missed them!
"Don’t worry about it," Scythe replied, strolling along a few feet behind him and sounding surprisingly relaxed.
"Don’t worry?" Hush said, confused, as he turned around to face him "Weren’t you the one who wanted to slay the American Dragon and avenge your father?"
"Yes," Scythe replied "I was and still am to this day…"
"Then what’s the problem?"
Shaun placed his staff aside, glancing around and making sure they were a safe distance from the other Clanmen before pulling his mask off and continuing.
"Alright," he began, pulling himself onto his feet. "Well, to put it simply. There are actually a few things you don’t know about me."
"Is that so?" Hush asked "Well, go on…"
"Well, as you would know my father was in the Huntsman, leader of the Huntsclan, in fact. But that wasn’t exactly the legacy he’d been expected to lead."
"What do you mean?"
Shaun cleared his throat, before continuing. Not too excited about having to reveal his most dreaded secret of his past.
"His father, my grandfather, Lei Irvine, was a dragon."
Hush suddenly stared back at Shaun in shock, completely taken back. Was what he was saying true? Had he been working with a descendent of his own enemy all along? He could barely believe his ears, but he knew there was something about Shaun, something different... Even if he was a dragon descendent. There must've been some explanation to this all.
"A dragon?" Hush broke out eventually
"Yes." Shaun replied reluctantly, bitting his lip.
"What?" Hush asked "But, how can that be?"
"It wasn't his choice for any of his family to get this way..."
"What do you mean?"
"He was attacked… Years ago, and cursed by an unbelievably powerful evil that built up inside of his blood and genes. It did not affect him directly, but the evil genes inside of him were passed to his son, the Huntsman..."
“He tried to grow him up and encourage him to follow his legacy," Shaun continued when Hush didn't reply, but simply watched and listened in shock "seeing as there was still dragon blood in his veins, little did he know that for all those years the Huntsman had been plotting against him waiting and counting slowly down for that day that he would turn against him..."
"So this curse..." Hush began eventually "Caused him to rebel against his father?"
"Well, yes..." Shaun began "and no..."
Hush gave him another confused look, and Shaun sighed.
"It's complicated..." Shaun continued
"Okay?" Hush said, pulling his mask off as well "Why don't you just take it from the top?"
"Okay," Shaun replied "Well, this curse built up an evil inside of my father, one that slow growly stronger and stronger as it was passed down the gene line, and with that evil came a power..."
"
"What is the most evil figure you can think of?"
"Well, it would have to be anyone of us or the Dark Dragon," Hush began, before Shaun cut him off
"No no," Shaun said "Don't just think magical world, think amongst the religious beliefs amongst humans..."
"What, a devil?" Hush asked
"Exactly..." Shaun replied
"But, how does that work?" Hush asked
"Exactly the same way as a dragon power would," Shaun asked "Depending on whether or not, you just to give into it's power. You can control it. But until then, it eats inside of you. A curse that feeds off of any negative emotion in your body such as fear, anger or hate... And if the feelings inside of you are strong enough. They will completely consume you... Giving you away to the Devil Gene."
"So," Hush continued, as Shaun turned away from him heading further down the alley "You have this power?"
Shaun suddenly stopped and then turned around slowly holding his right hand up revealing not only a thick horn that was sticking out of his forearm, but evil possessed looking eyes that were flashing red brightly within the darkness that spilt over his face like a strong light, revealing the horns sticking out of the sides of his head and the various patterns scattered across his face.
"I guess so," Hush replied with an evil grin
"Yes," Shaun replied, his voice sounding raspier and more sadistic "I have complete control of this power. But I'm still not strong enough to take the dragon out alone... I'll need your help."
"What are we going to do?"
"There is one way to make this power stronger, and that is by obtaining the DNA of a Dragon..."
"Alright," Hush said, grabbing his staff and mask "Let's go!"
"No!" Shaun said, stoppig him "I don't want just any dragon. Sure with the American Dragon, the effect would be good... But. If you want a job done, you want it done as well as possible. So if you want the power of a dragon, you'd want the power of the most powerful dragon known..."
Hush looked other at Shaun, clenching his fists. Letting him know he was ready for anything.
"The Dark Dragon..." Rose's P.O.V"So this guy Scythe, was the only guy who survived?" Fred said, his hands resting against the surface of the coffee table as he tried to make sure he had the facts straight.
"Yeah," Jake replied
"But this guy Jeff, who was his brother, didn't..." he continued
"Pretty much," Jake said
"And he's, a devil was it?" Fred asked
"It's complicated, I know," Jake said "But after about 5 years of it, you get pretty familiar to the concept."
"I can imagine," Fred replied "So, what exactly do you propose we do?"
"We need to stay away from him," I said "But be ready to defend ourselves just in case he makes an attack. We don't know what he's doing and we don't want to get involved until we have a slight idea of what he's planning..."
"Okay, so... What do we do in the meantime?" Fred asked
"I dunno," Jake replied this time "Maybe just try and see if we can figure it out for ourselves... I for one want to know why exactly this guy is helping Shaun. From what Gramps told me these Clans weren't even asssociated with each other. They were on different parts of the country..."
"Yeah," I said "It is kind of strange."
"And not only that he was leading them... They were leading him and they weren't even his men."
"... Yeah," I said, suddenly realizing that myself. It was odd. Jake had hit the nail on the head. The men that Shaun was leading weren't of the Huntsclan, they were of this other Clan the Unheard Voice... What had he in order to get that respect and that trust from their?
What had he done in order for them to believe he could be their leader? That's when it hit me...
"Wait a minute," I said
"What?" Jake and Fred asked, almost simualtaneously [A/N: or however you spell it
]
"What if they never had a leader?"
"What do you mean?" Jake asked "They do. I saw him myself-"
"I know," I said, cutting him off "But what if their leader, wasn't confident in his abilities? What if he didn't believe like he was born to be a leader? Who would he turn to?"
"Shaun," Jake said, slowly realizing what I was getting at.
"Exactly," I replied "Because they both want-"
"The same thing..." Jake cut in
"Power," I added.
"So if this guy helps Shaun with catching us, he will work with him in leading the Unheard Voice in order to return the favour..." Jake continued
"Yeah..." I replied
"This is not good," Jake said, cradling his face in his hands, Fred placed his hand on his shoulder.
"Cheer up, mate," he said "The worst is yet to come."
"Oh thanks," Jake replied sarcastically
"I was just kidding," Fred said, taking his hand, seeing I was clealry not in the mood. I reached forward and gently held his hand in mine.
"Look Jake," I said "It'll be okay. You just can't let this fear factor [A/N: Fear Factor = awesome show because Jeff Hardy was on there once XDDD] get to you. It's what happened to me before..."
"But remember Rose," Jake replied "You were freaking out that Shaun was going to escape and come after us, and guess what... He did."
I sighed, and leant back against the booth we sat in. But then suddenly felt a cheeky smile crawl across my face when I thought of talking another approach.
"So what are you saying, Jake?" I asked grinning "You're scared of Shaun?"
"Huh... What?" he asked
"Are you scared of Shaun or something?" I asked, continuing to taunt him.
"Oh, screw you," he replied, trying to hide the smile on his face.
"Okay," he said eventually "I'll be ready."
"Good," Rose replied
"Well, glad that's settled then," Fred said, getting up from his seat.
"Yeah," Jake replied "So... I guess I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Yeah," Fred said
"Where are you going to be staying?" I asked
"Oh yeah," Fred said, stopping in his tracks as he made his way over to the exit "I kind of wanted to talk to you guys about that."
"Just kidding," Fred said, laughing "I just wanted to see the look on your faces."
"Riiight," Jake replied "Well, see you tomorrow then."
"Yeah," Fred said, still laughing as he headed out the door "Later mate."
