what i'm asking is, what makes you listen to the type of music you do?
I listen to alternative/indie music because they usually have a differentiation of their rythyms and leads. The bands sing flwlessly and they make the music because they want to. Not because they want to get publicity, moeny, or just because the record label says to "Make this type of song."

I've grown up around it all my life, I guess.
Rap and all that stuff has a lot of ... Ugh, I just really don't like it. I love the beat to some of it, but I guess it's more the lyrics than anything else. Country doesn't have the right beat for it to me.
Rock ... Ahh, I don't know how to explain it. It's just ... I dunno, for some people I've talked to, whatever they listened to first and really got into stuck with them as they got older. I guess that's what happened to me. I've loved it since I was younger, and it's just stuck with me.

Rap and country, like Ash, really just AREN'T my thing. Rap is worse though. D=
My favorite type of stuff is just like Electronica/House and Rock. Oh, and I guess you could also say some indie. Most music I got into was from my dad. But really, I just like any type of song that has a good beat, that can make me picture something cool (music videos don't really count), or just a song that gets stuck in my head in a good way.
My music tastes change and can go on and off with a ton of different songs. It's pretty cool. But sometimes I don't know what to listen to and I just CAN'T really listen to anything. So during that stage, I can be very easily seceptible (sp?) to hearing a new song and instantly loving it. Again, not necessarily a bad thing.

My music taste consists of a little bit of everything I guess, I just like it all. From classical to metal, rock to some forms of rap. There aren't any specific genres I like or dislike, just ones I like more than others. I just think that the more varieties of music you are exposed to the wider range of emotions and motifs you'll realize from them, and have found that every genre (and artist for that matter) has the potential to release at least one very good song. I mainly listen to rock, because it can just draw elements from so many other genree. Including bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers who used rap style vocals, AC/DC who have been known to use bagpipes from time to time, Yellowcard who utilised the violin to develop a very unique, punk rock style and various artists like Evanscence who blend symphonic, melodic sounds with styles of hard and alternative rock. Some people describe rock as tedious, but I think it just depends on what you're listening to. I see the music I listen to as a form of inspiration, something I can relate to, and something that I can use to vent raw or negative emotions, instead of just releasing them in a form that I might regret later. So many important messages are conveyed, including concepts of peace, unity, love, optimism, anti-suicide and determination, that I feel have helped improve my outlook and attitude towards life.

I, for one, enjoy rap. I used to live in a rap influenced suburb. There are some I don't like(as with every genre-- there's some indie I don't like, some rock I don't like, etc.). I'm not going to discriminate one genre just because people think that one song determines the whole genre itself. Puh-lease. I enjoy Handsome Boy Modeling School, Timbaland, Kanye West, R. Kelly, etc. and I'm not afraid to say so either.
I'm also not into heavy rock. I give it a chance but it does nothing for me. Hardcore, screamo, etc. just makes me turn it off from the beginning but at least I give it a chance.
I enjoy electro because well... I don't know. I love the beats, the voices, the song itself. My dad is a musician and he does electro/techno sometimes, so I think I got influenced from that. Italian Dragon will be glad to know that I also enjoy 80's Italio Disco! :)
I like jazz too. I think that comes with my love for classic movies though.
Country is the only thing I do not enjoy, at all. Not one single song have I enjoyed.

Let’s see… ColdPlay fanatic! However that can most likely be summed up because that was literally the only CD’s I had when I started to get in to music! (I had the first 3 of their CD’s and that was it for music) So from there you can see a little bit of how I came to loving that type of music, but a n all time fav (can never go wrong with) is techno. Why? Well there’s a little thing called a GameBoy can GameBoy Advanced that influenced a lot of my life (and sonic…). Whenever I was too board to play any of the games, I would find my favorite ton from the game an just sit there lessening to the never ending thing (sonic had the song replay feature so it became a favorite). Then as I started to get some stuff from my friends, techno was all ways prominent (partly due to me).
Rap… …. ….. ….. SH1TTY! (whoops, did I say that?) I find nothing intriguing about it. (but classic rap, back when it was more rap/rock, is cool though!) It has crap for lyrics, and how many of the top Rap songs haven’t had anything but dirty thing behind it (“and supper man that ho!”) and to go along with it, there’s nothing to the beet or background stuff that catches me (BECAUSE IT ISNT THER!) My school is primarily populated by lovers of rap… so I’m secrued…
My later fave of music is more heavy (in terms of me first) rock and mettle but still keeping to the Atl feel.
Almost forgot to mention. Classical! (Probably my third fav of the musical geners) If you ever pay any attention to me (look at the screen name… the av… the signature…) then you can gess why. I’m a Star Wars fanatic, and I love the sound of classical. It keeps to my love of complex background with an interesting front. The only thing missing in much of it is a really good singer (but no opera! IT BURNS!!!). probably explains why I like orchestral rock and Yane.

I will listen to anything so long as I like it. Any language, any genre, vocals or no vocals, whatever. I generally dislike blues and country, but I like it the way The White Stripes do it. I'm not that big on folk, but I listen to bands like Gogol Bordello and Six Organs of Admittance, which have strong folk influences. I don't really listen to rap or jazz, but if some comes on the radio or wherever I am, I don't mind listening. Classical is something I can listen to and not care who the composer is, or whether it's an overture, a symphony or a sonata. I just turn on CBC Radio 2 and listen in.
Other than that it's mostly rock, electronic and every possible branch from that: avant garde, post-hardcore, house, dance punk, garage rock, shoegaze, industrial, indie/alternative, techno, punk, gypsy punk, ska punk, and whatever else there is. Oh, and I'm not big on metal, but I do listen to some like Rage Against The Machine, and a little bit of System of a Down and Marilyn Manson.
The reason I listen to music is because I enjoy it. I don't think I can make it much more profound or meaningful then that. I suppose it is an escape, but I would use it for guidance or to escape my problems. Some of the stuff I listen to couldn't be considered in good taste (Mindless Self Indulgence, The Locust, Gerty Farish), so I wouldn't say music is a good influence on me, but not a bad one either. It's just something in between.

I listen to my music because I'm bored and have nothing to do, Relate myself to the lyrics, relax, and relive stress.

When it comes to when I lessen to it… I do it whenever I don’t feel like listing on other people (I hear too much stuff XP ). I also lessen to it when doing Home Work, its help me not think about how much I despise it. And whenever I’m playing FPS games! I don’t know, it gives such a contrast (my coldPlay and The Fray) to the intense killing that is happening in front of me :-) .
edit........... D*mn, what do you know... i did all ready respond to this...
