Even still, even the recent news of Left 4 Dead 2 shows it also ports in Crash Course as well, so I'll be giving those maps a try. Well, what's next? DOTA 2? CS GO? We'll be waiting.
But for now they are worrying on their own database because it's been hacked by hackers. I don't understand what's their purpose, I bet it could be anti-Steam that drives them.

i suspect its just more of the usual, 'we hack because we can' stupid teens. getting tired of all these database break-ins, i don't like having to constantly change my passwords and getting a new credit number. at least Valve was smart enough to encrypt its credit card numbers, however no one knows if the hackers have broken that safety too.

I know, much like the same for one of my emails, constant changing of passwords is already giving me a headache when those spams keep on coming. Why all of these for the lulz? They seriously need to get laid because it's way more fun than being geeky and hack something.

I've just checked with the recent L4D2 poll, apparent CS:GO is ready to be tested, a closed beta on 30 November, is anybody getting into it? I wish I could but I could not. And by the way, L4D2 skinning has never been easier again as this time, it's no longer using Notepad++ and do the nonsense editing again like we did in L4D1, you remember that I always complain when it comes to the game keeps on getting updated, skins get reset too, right? Well, I'm not sure about you, but L4D2's Addon feature removes that problem permanently, I get to play not only some new skins, but new animations of guns as well, courtesy of the talented Arby26 from GameBanana.

Valve fixed the L4D1&2 skinning system/modes? (or did you just discover the add on feature?)
i might grab some mods for then then. replace all the survivor models in l4d2 with the ones from l4d1. (has got to be a conversion pack some where)

I don't know what's the add-on used for until when my old DVD got CRC problems, I have problems unlocking melee weapons for other campaigns as well, for example, I want the tonfa & machete in other campaigns other than sticking to only The Parish. When the standalones cannot always unlock it, it must be an outdated add-on, so when I found the problem and download a new similar add-on, it worked this time. And then I took the discovery even further by downloading skins and animation, and wolla, they work with the add-on without tweaking the VPK files. To find your stuff, L4Dmaps.com & GameBanana have some. All you need is to play L4D2 and use the add-on features. Speaking of that, I also get to play the L4D1 campaigns in the sequel and I no need to install the prequel game again. It is promising except the campaign has so many incomplete tasks : 1. Saferoom & other game music during gameplay are missing 2. The final score music upon campaign completion (No Mercy is all fixed), the campaign completion music is still using L4D2's version rather than L4D1's like No Mercy did. 3. Death Toll's train saferoom has no medkits, even on Normal. Easy I never tested. Did they miss it out? That's pretty much about the current problems in all L4D1-ported campaigns (Except No Mercy).

I know, all that porting normally should not be a lot of work. But I fear here's the problem, if I were one of the Valve dev over there, we can port, but we don't have time to do the cleaning and touch-ups as we have more important tasks like Dota2, CS:GO beta & TF2. And those touch-ups cannot be executed unless free time is found, it's not like spent a single day just to port it and make sure it works. A mini work like this can turn into an enormous task, so they play it in their own way. Don't forget to put yourself into their shoes. And I already did it for you.

i haven't forgotten to place my self in their shoes. i know porting isn't the simplest of things but Valve is split in to a few different working groups and last i knew there was a dedicated L4D team. that teams job over the past few years has been making maps and porting maps for L4D2, with these maps they have already had a fully functioning set of code along with textures that all ran in the EXACT SAME ENGINE.
Ive seen other groups port far harder material in the same amount of time. (that's all i'm getting after)

As far as splitting the team, I'm not sure if that helps because it's all down to them, after all, even after all these times, Cold Stream is yet to be finished and polished.

Cold Stream, after all that many patches including the porting of L4D1 maps, I still can't believe that it's still in beta phase. I bet the testers have deserted the project in favor of the ported maps.
