www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,24568137-2862,00.html Well, I'm talking mainly about the plan to filter the internet in Australia. Not very happy. Even though they haven't got enough votes to pass it, I still don't trust our government. So many people wanted Labor in, they got em, and now they don't like it. Why are people so stupid and fickle? Freedom of Speech is my favourite right. And they're practically robbing us of that, I'd rather not become like China. What do you home boys think about censorship in general? =D

It is difficult since the world gets rougher and rougher, even for online times. So far, I'm not sure, but of course, there will be people against the rules under the government's noses anyways. They'll only do that in their private homes. Getting IP-watched by the internet raider squad? There's always the hide IP softwares which keep users anonymous and away from the internet raider squads, it's pure privacy for this.

It's annoying, and I'm glad that the US at least doesn't have a lot of internet censorship as of now, though I have a feeling that it will become an issue sometime in the future.
It's just the internet, it's not real life... as a person for general freedom anyway, I would much rather see a censor-free internet--or, at least, the one that we have now. It seems fine to me.

I think that censorship is just useless. It's like protecting games ! Last time I went to see my fave hacked stuff forum there was already the crack for GTA IV , less than 12 hours after it has been avaliable in stores . I think that censhorship is in the same way. Yes they can censore and no they can't stop others from hacking and tweaking to un-censore. Just another epic fail.

It's not so much that sites are being blocked. It's that a lot of sites that shouldn't be blocked would be blocked. And the speed is reduced by 80%, and our internet is already bad. Researching anything for school would become a major hassle. Which is what I do on the internet anyway...=D

Well it doesn't sound all the terrible if all they block it porn sites. Probably the worst thing about it would just be the slowed down internet.

^ They've tested the filter, 1/12 of sites that shouldn't be blocked, get blocked as well. So that can include, Yahoo, YouTube, wikipedia, MySpace, anything like that.
Censoring of anything is not a good thing. What right does any government have blocking porn off the internet?

If someone doesn't want to look at something, they don't have to look at it. We don't need a pathetic filter just because some parents won't watch over their kids while they use the internet.

I think we can all agree our internet is better without C.P. even if people choose to watch it.

I don't believe we should filter our internet. Pedos will still find a way to get child porn. And I don't care if it's on the internet, it's not my problem, I just don't look at it.

Even if it's not your problem there's more than one person in Australia. And the media will press really hard on the issue until the government begins censoring it. People always blame the government for anything bad in their country and C.P. is something you don't want on there.

Hasn't anyone here read 1984? Sheesh, read that, THEN come talk about censoring the internet.
I think internet censorship is pointless. It's the internet, there will always, always be a way around it. Certain sites that will be censored are unnecessary to be censored, such as Google, and even certain clothing sites. I am aware they are trying to stop access from children running into pornography, but censoring most general sites out there is going to cause more trouble.
(If it were me though, I'd tell my kid to get off the damn internet and go play hula hoop outside or something.)
