I'm so jealous of you right now! As usual when my other friends all getting newer ones, both desktop and laptops.

your just on a different refresh skedual than me, i bought my laptop mid 2009 so its quickly reaching 3 years old. sadly with laptops, at 3 years they really show their age. (battery's are dying, processors are long in the tooth, RAM is low, cooling's breaking) i wanted this thing to mature to 4 years old, however its getting annoying with some of it quirks. i may drag it threw to a forth year but with how cheep performance is no a days in laptops i'm tempted to just ditch it for a 400$ laptop.
My desktop got a complete refresh at 4 years (October 2011) but it was mostly superfluous as what i built the new desktop for was only around for 3 months after it was completed. everything else i conduct regularly wouldn't have cared if it was on my Q6600 system instead of my 2500k.
despite how much interest i have in the new graphics cards, im probably not going to refresh this cycle on them. what i currently have is more than adequate for what i play currently. my only complaint is the amount of heat it generates. (tf2 at max settings, and never dipping below 100fps... im so spoiled, however TF2 is really the only game i play currently)

You know what they say, as long as everything is coming out from China, the products will deteriorate a lot faster. That's why I'm hoping someone like Donald Trump will bring jobs back to the US where quality supervision is always a huge priority compare to just bulk building and medium or low supervision. As for this case, the only thing I need to change is my graphic card, sure, my Windows startup is becoming slower despite it's an i7, but a reformat will always clean them up. The only thing that bothers me is that I can't play Starcraft 2 with its beautiful visuals without compromising its frame rate. By the time Heart of the Swarm comes out, I have no choice but to comply with the hardware limitations and deal with the problems.

That's why I'm hoping someone like Donald Trump will bring jobs back to the US where quality supervision is always a huge priority compare to just bulk building and medium or low supervision. moving computer manufacturing back to the USA wont change the fact that laptops age poorly. its a simple equation of how fast the thing is to how old it is and changing manufacturing local wont change that ratio. laptops are all ways slower than desktops, always more expensive, all ways run hotter. besides, Apple and all the other high quality laptop producers have there laptops manufactured in China, only difference between them and a low brand like HP, DeLL and Gateway is how they design the casing. (and price tag) on the GTX680, i just noticed that its not running the full Kepler chip. its running the GK104 instead of the GK110 that was being talked about by nvidia not to long ago. wonder what kind of monstrosity Nvidia is cooking up if they are branding the cut-down wafer (GK104) as a high end card currently.

Ive finally take the time to familiarize my self with AMD's APU's today and i must say I'm impressed. while CPU performance is essentially at Athlon II level, the IGP is really impressive. the A8 is even out performing early Ivybridge samples in IGP performance (10 to 20%) and these things are rapidly reaching the one year mark.
i was originally holding out on Ivybridge for my next laptop however considering that IGP performance is better on an older AMD A8. I'm thinking i may be going AMD this time around. now i just need some solid numbers on core performance between an A8 and a Cor2Duo. as long as clock per clock the things faster then i'm set. (assuming it uses the same or less power)

Speaking of processors, I can't wait to read the news if there's any programmer tries to underclock the iPad 3's processor by toning down the performance and speed so the temperature will go down just like the iPad 2's, but of course, without causing it to become super lag.

im no expert on the iPad. but form what Ive hear they kept the clock frequency the same as the iPad 2 and just increased the processors core count. (with minor revisions to its architecture) which would suggest that under clocking would severely slow the device. this is ofcource assuming that all iPad aps are clock sensitive.

We'll just see what happens if any developers jailbreak the device and then tweak it to solve the whole heating problems, I will always be watching in my favorite computer news sites. If it does work, we can all pat ourselves and a big bonus for iPad 3 owners.

well Intel's Ivy Bridge launched last week and has been, ultimately, underwhelming for CPU performance. average gain is less than the quoted 10 to 15%. its closer to 5 to 10. however its IGP is quite a bit faster than Sandy Bridge. but its a hollow victory for lintel on that front as AMD's year old A serveries processors still will out pace it in IGP performance. (however considering the amount of DX11 that Ivy bride supports, Ivy bridge is pretty close to being a APU)
