This is something I worked on for the past month. It takes place three to four years after the end of Season 2. I tried to be as realistic as possible, but not information is completely accurate, including place names, people, so on and so forth. Any incidences of similarities with any other fan-fic, story, event, etc... are completely coincidental.

It has been four years since the heroic confinement of the Dark Dragon on Hong Kong Island. He’s been stuck there ever since Jake and Rose fought him and escaped by a hair.
Life was back to normal for Jake. Back in New York, he lived life as a normal human/dragon kid. Not much changed except for the fact that Rose was still in Hong Kong. Her parents still held jobs there, and Rose… well, a minor doesn’t just ditch his or her parents in pursuit of some love interest. Besides, her parents didn’t approve of Jake, especially after he was arrested by the police prior to the battle. On the other hand, Rose would be back in the United States to attend college after Form 6 of high school, which she will be completing in about a year. Main point is Jake lead a relatively normal, with the exception that Rose would not be with him for another year.
In March of 2011, the state of California, receiving no assistance from the federal government regarding their piling debt, became extremely frustrated. With the help of China and Russia, California seceded from the United States. The following war was humiliating to the Americans; they were defeated by a coalition of forces in major cities such as Barstow, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Denver, and finally, Chicago. Two months in, the United States gave up and granted California independence, ceding to California the states of Nevada and Arizona with it on May 1, 2011. The new, enlarged, Californian Republic quickly established ties with China and Russia.
To add to the misfortunes, in the same month, Hans Rotwood, former teacher and principal at Millard Fillmore Middle School in Manhattan and new immigrant to Los Angeles, exposed to the Californian government the existence of magical creatures. Fortunately, the Californian government kept this as top secret and only shared this newfound knowledge with its allies, China and Russia.
As Jake was relatively unaffected by the war, life was great, but things are about to change.
