I don't have a big clue about it, he likes the OS but not the UI, and not to mention MS is growing in number of apps too, but I am skeptical if he made a wise decision because Android is only getting better and better, I can already tell that the existing companies are continuing to fuel the competition against Apple and their deceptions.

it dose seem odd that he would choose a platform that he seems to hate the fundamental reason why its different.
recently came across some interesting numbers, for got which mag i read it out of though... Windows Phone 7's app market has grown faster than both Apples and Androids when they first launch. however it still has a long way to go before it hits the shear mass that iOS and Android both have.

He may not hate like I do, but we know HTC always set their devices to turn their users to use their UI a lot more rather than Microsoft's.
And yes, I read about it too at GSMArena or PhoneArena, after they made some new strategies, they seem to grow, a nice move for my father but I'm not convinced. Similar to Symbian, except it's not a strong OS anymore. Overall, Android is already #1 prone to viruses when Symbian was used to be #1, but then again, what else can the hackers do when iOS still remain very closed and yet very little holes to breakthrough.

i will say i am all ways amassed at how though apple has managed to make the iPhone to hack. you would think that a phone form Apple that had the market dominance for so long would of gathered a fairly sizable amount of exploits or viruses. what might be the case is that Androids more open, possibility easier to hack and more business friendly than iPhones.
speaking of vulnerability's, i loved it how apple kept of touting that you didn't need a AV program in OSX and then they got some popularity, some more market share and suddenly their patching all over the place because of exploits and viruses. (not to mention the infamous OSX AV trojan that so many fell for)

im burning the developer preview of Windows 8 x64 on to a DVD right now. time to take my first real time glimpse of what MS has been fiddling with for a while. (and to look uber nerdy at classes again)

i see that you've heard about Metro's lack of Flash. im going to be honest, theirs no need for flash if people just adopt HTML5 fully. plus no one likes the system load flash produces doing simple things. however the lack of it at this point's disturbing... (at least it can still work form desktop applications)
nope, its still not in Beta yet, however we did finally role around to v8 numbering instead of a derivative of v7 (windows 7)

HTML5 maybe the future, but I do heard Adobe is trying to get Flash into the HTML5 world. Like in all businesses, they want Apple to adopt their technology into the iDevices as well so that jailbreaking will be unnecessary. Sadly, I lost that news article.

its sensible that Adobe would want to protect its purchase of Macromedia. however whats also odd is i remember some where (another never going to be linked article) that Adobe was a strong proponent of HTML5.
company's are odd, but that's what happens when an entity gets large.
now right now some good news on Windows 8, i haven't managed to crash the thing despite my deliberate attempts to get drivers to drop (a common problem in an unstable OS) and the things lick-i-dy split once its actually booted. however noticed i said once its actually booted. as of right now its taking a good amount more time to boot than any of my 6 computers i have bench marked for boot up times. it seems to like to include a 1 minute boot in to a boot manager before actually booting the OS too. (speaking of boot managers, i apparently have two of them now, when i first boot i get the Windows vista/7 boot manager and if i select windows 8 i then load in to another boot manager where i need to select my OS again...)
obviously i'm expecting my current gripe to vanish as we hit beta and later. (the boot manager thing, i'm rather happy that i cant seem to crash it)
-----
up next on the list of things to do! Scare the parc out of The Old Republic Developers when Windows 8 shows up in my system report!

just a heads up for those that don't like the new UI. their is a simple registry hack that will revert it to the traditional desktop with out the metro UI ever showing up. i've been running it for a while and i must say my feelings for the OS are a bit more positive now. really nice base the os is coded off of, slim and efficient. testings shown frame rate increases and boot time decreases.
really hope that MS makes it easy to select traditional vs Metro in the beta builds coming soon. (would alleviate most of my fears)
