This is just something ive been workin on and im wondering if i should continue. all critisism excepted. i know i have 2 expand on ideas but all comes with time
Ch 1
“typical life!” zach yelled as he stomped up the stairs. He had a horrible day of school, this was the norm for him. It wasn’t so much as school as it was his girlfriend dumping him for the highschool quarterback.” it had to be him!” he mumbled under his breath, barely audible to his parents, but they were too concerned to take notice.
Zach was a 16 year junior, living in a isolated town called Scales Wyoming. In school , Zach struggled to keep his grades to please his teachers, his parents, and mostly himself. He was overall a great kid, getting in the occasional nagging of his teacher of his grades and the people he hung around. But he was smarter then the influence of others. He had great sightings for his future and was determined to follow them, where ever they took him. He just needed a little help getting to them.
His dad started up the stairs but his mom grabbed him by the shoulder, turning around and softly said “ I’ll talk to him”
his dad took the hint and headed to the family room to watch tv, while his mom headed up the stairs. Reaching the top, she knocked on the door and said” may I come in?”
“ go away” he sobbed, trying to hold back his tears
his mother walked into his room and lightly closed the door, and sat next to her heart broken son and without saying a word, he opened up to her and explained his day. She herself, although long ago, had experienced the high school life, and understood her son’s pain.
He told her of how he walked into the bathroom to find them kissing. He told her about how angry he was. He stormed out of the bathroom and out of the doors of the school. He said he hated school and hated life.
“ its ok , dear, life will move on. Who knows what lies around the corner for you! Its not all going to go away because of a girl. Life is for the patient, it all comes with time”
Zach thought his mom’s statement over. He really pondered his moms phrase and the meaning.
“ life is for the patient”. It played over and over in his head like a broken record, but with more meaning, a lesson not soon forgotten.
Ch 2
Zach’s mom had long left the room, leaving zach still mystified over the meaning of his mom’s wise words, when he heard from his window “Zach! Are you up there?”
He rose out of his bed and peered out his window in the direction the voice was calling.
It was his best friend Autumn standing directly below his window.
“ hey!” he called back.
“ Well, are you coming?” I really want to check out this tunnel down by the lake, you wanna come?”
“ You bet!” he exclaimed, “ be down in a sec!”
He bolted out of the house in his usual clothes, red t-shirt with blue jeans, and ran right past Autumn and yelled over his shoulder “ beat ya there!”
“ over my dead body!” she yelled laughing at Zach’s futile attempt to out run her. As she was running past him, she tapped his left shoulder and ran to his right. He turned and was startled, not seeing her. With all this thinking, he lost his focus on running and ran right into a ditch on the side of one of the many dirt roads in the town.
Turning her head to see where Zach was, Autumn witness this incident and ran back to assist him.
“ are you alright?” she asked trying to encumber he laughter.
“ Fine and dandy!” he said sarcastically “ I’m covered in dirt, im in pain from cuts, and im a bit embarrassed, but otherwise, im great”
“ good to know” she said “ now get your head out of the ditch and lets explore this tunnel!”
Ch 3
They soon arrived at the lake, dirty and exhausted, but anxious to explore this cave they heard so much about.
“So where is this cave you told me of?” Zach asked
“ I saw it right around the tree!” she said joyously
Zach stood in awe as they approached a grand tree that stood over one hundred feet tall with roots coming from the ground, and others jutting out into the lake.
“ oh my god, this is one big tree” he said but he failed to notice the Autumn had already darted around the tree.
“ I found the cave!” he heard her shout “ and what a beauty it is!”
“ hey! Wait for me!”
Zach ran around the tree and found Autumn sitting at the entrance of the cave. He could tell by her body language that she wanted him to hurry up so they could enter the cave.
“ im coming! Im coming!”
“ I didn’t say anything”
“ you were implying it”
They entered the cave with little caution, not knowing nor caring what was around the corner. The cave itself ran a good half mile, through the tree roots, that were visible while walking through the cave, and around the lake. Nothing live in the cave. They did not spot one living thing in the whole cave.
“ don’t you think its odd?” Zach asked
“ what do you mean? I like this. Its remote and peaceful.”
“ no, I mean, there is nothing down here. There is no life, only dirt and roots, and no trace of how this was formed.”
“ well, ya. If you think of it like that. But I think of the glass half full, not half empty.”
They continued down the cave when they heard a noise like fire being emitted from something. They proceeded down the tunnel but found nothing but a book and a scale.
“ look at this!” Zach said with joy, “ a book, and a scale.”
“ it looks like that of a snake, but bigger! Much bigger!” Autumn said, also joyed by their discovery.
“ ya, this sort of worries me. What is this stuff from?”
“ I don’t know, but it seems the book has writing on it! Let me see it!” she said taking the book from Zach’s hands. “ well, I cant read it. Its in a whole other language. One I’ve never seen”
“ Let me see it again” Zach said taking back the book “ you really can’t read it?”
“No, you can?”
“Yes, to me, it is clear as day. It says “light the fire”. What does that mean?”
Autumn looked at Zach mystified, like she had saw a ghost. “ you have a gift. Im not sure what it is, but there is something about you.”
“ what do you mean?”
“Nothing. Nothing at all. Are you ready to go?”
“ definitely.”
They walked all the way home in silence. Each thinking of what “ light the fire” meant.
But Zach had another thing on his mind. What autumn said. Did he really have a gift? If he does, what is it? Was it good? All of these questions ran through his head. He really wanted to know the answers, but some familiar words ran through his mind “ life is for the patient”
Ch 5
Zach had massive trouble falling to sleep that night. He was still thinking. About the book, about the scale, and lastly, about his mysterious ability to read in another language.
All strange and unexplainable.
When he finally fell asleep, he experienced a dream that would open the book of destiny.
One that would change his life. One that would reveal his future, depending on the path he chooses.
“ open it!” autumn said ushering Zach to open the book that they found.
“Ok, ok, im going. But what if something bad happens?” He said. Zach really didn’t want to open the book. He was really worried that something would suck him into the book and he may never return.
“You never know till you try it!” she said.
“Alright, here it goes!” he opened the book with his head turned and eyes sealed shut. “Am I dead?”
“No! Just read the dang book! What does it say?!?!”
“Stop being so pushy!” he said.
He turned to the next page and read the scripture:
To light the fire,
Is to light the world,
Light the fire in your heart,
Your destiny revealed
“Ok, now what does that mean?” Autumn asked “ and how do you read that??”
“ I told you, I don’t know how I read it, and it just happens!” Zach said annoyed. She had asked him how he read the texts many times before and it was starting to get old. “ and I have no clue what this means. We know it has something to do with destiny,”
“ Turn to the next page, maybe it will have something that describes it!”
Zach turned the page and found nothing. He skimmed through the whole book and it was completely empty, except the page they already saw.
“Its empty.” Zach said and then he heard,
“ Zach, wake up. Its eleven in the morning. You know I don’t let you sleep this late! I have to vacuum!”
“Im up!” Zach said tiredly, crawling out of his bed while his mom turned on the vacuum and proceed to clean his room.
