Tomorrow I will leave from my home in Gunzberg, Germany to go to New York City. Because I am an only child, my parents have saved enough money to send me to the great land of America because we are quite poor and they want me to have a better life. However, I am quite scared and sad to leave my country for I am leaving behind all my friends and family. My loving parents are allowing me to bring my dog Lilli, to accompany me on my long I have been told that I will go on the ship called Christofer in the Hamburg Harbor and it will take three weeks to arrive in New York City. Tomorrow my father, my dog and I will use our neighbor’s horse to travel up north to the Hamburg seaport. I am dreading tomorrow’s trip.

Saying goodbye was a very difficult thing. Yesterday right before I left for Hamburg I sobbed on my mother’s shoulder. I did the same thing right before I boarded the ship for America. As the ship left the port I looked back at my home country which looked beautiful in the setting sun. Unfortunately I knew it would probably be the last time I would ever see it. I think I should get some sleep now. Lilli has already curled up in a ball at my feet.

We have almost made it to America! Far off I see small shadowy shape of The Statue of Liberty. The ship captain said that we should be dock and travel on the ferry to Ellis Island by sunrise! Lilli also seems to sense that we are near the new land. She is wagging her tail happily. I am thankful this strenuous trip is almost over!
