Prologue: A Secret Society
---
Deep in the silence of the night in Draco Island’s School of Magic, a faint, mellow sound was heard that lasted only in an instant then faded away gradually. All were asleep at a time this late and not a single inhabitant was stirring throughout this area. Though all that could be heard was everyone’s silent breathing and the wind that stirred quietly, nothing could still exactly could be accurately correct with this picture once you come across it vigilantly. You might say that everyone was back in his or her places in this very hushed night…all but two people seemed to be silent as this mysterious being roamed throughout the darkness.
“You have disappointed me for the very last time…” A deep voice spoke. “Would you like to live up to your promise and regain your status?”
The girl that stood next to this man stayed quiet, letting her hair move along with the wind that blew along the direction of west. She had carefully taken off the hood that was attached to the cloak she had worn. “Is it really going to take that much?”
Curiosity that came from the adolescent had made the man almost laugh in ridicule. “We’ll just have to take a look at what happens.”
“So… why are we here again?” The interested teenager had come to question after silence arose. She bent down, tentatively running her fingers through the moonlit lake that was just within yards away from the boarding school. “There’s nothing here but some body of wet…stuff…or some lagoon.”
“That’s what some might assume.” He, too, had felt the water…but not as gently as the girl had done. It was as if he had destructed the soft waves that flowed through the stream, only with an effortless, harsh movement of his rough fingers. “But underneath all of this is a furtive civilization that lies below it…”
“Interesting…” The girl remarked, gently drying her damp fingers with her cloak then slipping back her gloves on. “So…what are we going to do about all of this then? And how we will find this secret society that you speak of?”
“Simple,” was his reply. “It doesn’t take a diver to reach it… This sea-like lagoon isn’t exactly too deep so we can get there by just, maybe, swimming.”
“Are you sure we don’t need something like snorkels or scuba-diving gear or…something?”
“It’ll take too much time… This underground world is only a few feet to descend below…”
“Like, how much now?”
“About only ten feet.”
“What! That’s TOO profound! At least, for me…” The girl stood near the water, not watching the way she was situated—close to the water, as if she were about to fall into it.
“I mean…I’m not exactly the type that can swim…” With the last mention being alleged, she mindlessly took a step back and plunged underneath the lake, trying as hard as she could to scream for help… Though she held her hand out for the man to reach out and grab, he did nothing (as if he heard not a sound)… letting her sink below.
---
In a split-second, someone had heard the shriek that came from afar. It was Shade, who you could call a light sleeper. With panic eroding through his head, he frantically looked from one direction to another. Hearing nothing, he decided to calm down for a while. Shade realized that he had stood up but sat back down shortly and a thought soon raced through his mind…
“Florence…” He missed her a whole lot. Ever since that fateful day, he hasn’t seen her since. It just seemed so hard to let her go or even think about the day she had to leave…
Shade looked over at the window, with his dorm close to the water. With a glance, he had stared up at the bright crescent in the sky then looked down and he saw two figures that were hard to interpret. He made a gasp after seeing somebody drowning… and the same man pacing the ground as if he could hear nothing.
He knew perfectly well that somebody was crying for help… he could just hear it and feel it. He thought quickly and made his way down swiftly.
---
When Shade had gone over, he noticed that the man was no longer there… but he still heard water splashing rapidly… along with another muffled shout. Without caring a bit about his current attire, he quickly dove down in the water and opened his eyes… making more quick glances around until she spotted the distressed mistress.
He moved quickly, quickly cutting through the water surface as if it were a butter-knife doing so. Shade spread out his hands and extended his arms, making his way after using his feet to push him forward. The girl could feel herself getting dizzier… she was losing her breath. For a moment, her heart lurched after seeing vicious-looking fish that swam by.
With gentle eyes, Shade lowered his gaze over to the girl… though she looked a little familiar, he didn’t have much time to imagine it and just tried all he could to form words while beneath the surface. “Don’t be scared!”
In a second, the girl heard these three words and blinked slowly, keeping her gaze over at him. The moment started getting a little awkward as the two looked into each other’s eyes. She was about to open her mouth to speak, but stopped after her eyes gradually squeezed shut; her consciousness had given away.
Shade gasped. “Don’t worry!” He took both of her hands as he swiftly took her hands and moved over to shore as fast as he could—even he couldn’t hold his breath that long. After darkness turned into reality again, the girl opened her eyes and the two landed on the ground together, coughing.
“Are you alright?” Shade asked worriedly, after catching his breath. With a smile that brushed across the girl’s face, she faced her attention to him as another moment of gazing came to be. All he could see was the eyes behind her hood
After a while, the girl was no longer speechless. She sighed almost happily, taking off the hood from her cloak once again as the brunette pushed her back. “Remember me?”
“Florence!” Shade shouted as they extended their arms and embraced each other longingly. “It’s you! But… But h-how?” His voice sounded as if he were completely stuttered.
“Shh…” Florence said, shushing the enthusiastic boy. “Huntsdad came back… I can’t say much, but he’s got a new plan!”
“Do you know what it’s about?” He spoke quickly.
She shook her head and spoke promptly. “He says I can’t make contact with you again… so he doesn’t trust me after he found out about you. All I know for now is that he’s after this city that lies underneath the water, nothing more.”
Shade nodded, squeezing his bandana with of his both hands so he could stop it from dripping. “A secret society… got it.” His smile faded and he lowered his gaze. “But…wait… does this mean you’ll be gone again?”
Flo dejectedly moved her head up and down. “Yeah… I’m really and truly sorry, Shade. I don’t want to leave you; you know that.”
“I know…” He responded with a saddened sigh.
“I’ll still be trying all I can, though, okay?” Florence said with some hope.
“As will I.” He understood with another nod. “I’ll miss you.” The two realized that they still haven’t let go of each other up until now.
“I will too.” Florence said after the two let go. “Well, I got to go now… I really better jet before I get into bigger trouble.”
“Understood.” Shade replied perceptively. “I’ll see you later then.”
“You too, Shade… you too.” She said looking around to see if he was around and quickly gave him a kiss and another quick hug. “Later!”
He almost blushed after Florence had run off. He waited until she, and her waving, was completely out of his sight then made his way back to his dorm… with Florence in his mind once again…
---
Shade could hear his drenched steps echoing the halls from that last encounter, sighing after realizing that he would have to take a shower from the filthy lake-water.
“Wow… what happened to you?” A familiar voice caught his attention as he looked up.
“Long story.” Shade answered. “Why are you even up THIS late, Ash?”
“I should ask you the same thing,” She mumbled. “But anyway… I just went to take a little walk like I always do every moment on the crack of dawn. What about YOU?” Ash examined his soaking wet pal. “You look like you just came from a swim in the mud…”
“Like I said, it’s a long story.” He replied opening to door to his dorm once again. “Now if you excuse me, I have to take a five hour-long shower and use a LOT of shampoo to get this off.”
“Whoo, I’m glad you said that,” Ash grinned jokingly. “I’ll be in my room, okay? Talk to you later.”
“Same for you, Ash!” Shade called across the hall when she ran. “I’ll try and tell you everything tomorrow!” Closing the door to his dorm, he went to find the bathroom and rushed over to wash off.
---
Florence had eventually found Huntsdad and the two had headed back to the lair. She explained to him why she was soaking wet and how he didn’t hear her. His ‘excuse’ was how he was so deep in thought that all sounds were blocked from his mind. Flo just rolled her eyes after hearing the most unreasonable explanation to her having to have encountered near-death experience.
She, too, had cleaned off from the last scene and still thought of how Shade came to her rescue. Florence especially thought about all the times he had done things for her… like the time he risked his own dragon identity to save her from another prevented occurrence. She sighed, starting to miss him more than she even usually did.
“This time, this place… misused, mistakes… too long, too late. Who was I to make you wait?” She sang to herself after going back to her room.
---
“Just one chance… just one breath… just in case there’s just one left… Cause you know, you know, you know…” Shade hummed, staring out the window.
---
“That I loved you… And I loved you all along. And I miss you… been far away for far too long…” She continued on as she sat on her bed.
---
“I keep dreaming that you’ll be with me and you’ll never go. Stop breathing… if I don’t see you anymore…”
---
“On my knees, I'll ask… last chance for one last dance… Cause with you, I'd withstand… All of hell to hold your hand… I'd give it all, I'd give for us. Give anything but I won't give up… Cause you know, you know, you know…”
---
“That I love you… I have loved you all along… And I miss you… been far away for far too long…”
---
“I keep dreaming you'll be with me… and you'll never go…”
---
“Stop breathing if I don't see you anymore…” Shade carried on afterwards, placing and adjusting another bandana on his head.
“Why are you singing ‘Far Away’?” Ash said, abruptly entering the room as she passed by. Shade got embarrassed, realizing that he had left the door open after he had gone out again. “That song makes me cry, you know!”
“Eh… I just miss Florence.” He responded, sighing after hearing him self, pointing out an obvious answer. “Why are YOU here?”
“Just passing by… I was just around the corner when I heard someone singing. I guess it was just you.” She said.
“Hey! What’s that supposed to mean?” He exclaimed with a retort.
“Riiiight.” Ash remarked with a roll in her eyes. “Well, I better get back. Talk to later! And remember to shut your door next time!”
“I will, I will!” Shade called out again, shutting the door and locking it this time. With another sigh, he continued on with the song… He sat on his bed and stared in a certain direction so that his eyes viewed the broad daylight shining through his window. “So far away… Been far away for far too long…”
---
“So far away… Been far away for far too long…” Florence had sustained on after singing half of the song.
---
“But you know, you know, you know… I wanted… I wanted you to stay…”
---
“Cause I needed… I need to hear you say… That I love you… I have loved you all along…”
---
“And I forgive you… for being away for far too long…”
---
“So keep breathing… Cause I'm not leaving you anymore…”
---
“Believe it. Hold on to me and never let me go… Keep breathing… Cause I'm not leaving you anymore…”
---
“Believe it. Hold on to me and never let me go… Keep breathing… Hold on to me and, never let me go…”
---
“Keep breathing…”
---
“Hold on to me and never let me go.” Florence sighed after finishing the last line, feeling tears roll down her eyes. She lowered her gaze as she sobbed almost hysterically and thought of Shade… and nobody else. In the back of her mind, she wondered if Shade was doing the same too.

Yush... Far Away made me cry today. I dunno why. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. That's how weird I am. x.x Anyways... umm... this thing is just a 'trial basis'. I really don't know if there'll be an AUA sequel or will it, better yet, turn out this way. I wrote it because I was bored and had like a really, really small case of writer's block on chapter thirteen of LAAB (almost done, though).
Sooo... lesee... the sequel will be pretty weird... yeah... I came up with an extremely awkward plot today that I tweaked from a few weeks ago. Sooo... yeeaaah. o.o
Anyways... this was 'kind of' for fun... but also for you guys to have an idea of how my writing has ALSO kindasorta improved because I felt like my writing still sucked. o-o And so you know what the sequel MIIIIIGHT be about. Remember, I said MIGHT. It's subject to change throughout the time I'm finishing up AUA (I'm slowly getting out of writer's block).
And yushhhh... Shade and Florence are here... again. I know you guys get tired of it (except for Ewan @_@), but PLEASE deal with it if you are. D: Everybody else will appear ONCE AGAIN (both AUA and FTLW). Because in AUA, I'll start to not focus on them as much until the near end. Sooo... anyways I'M DONE. Byeee guys.

P.S. Yush... this is all meant to be centered; I changed my format!! WHOOT. Ftw. x3
