Ok, so here's the chapter I promised you! *Waits for applause* Clap! CLAP DANGIT! Ok, fine, here it is. Still Rose's POV!
Chapter 22 ~Looks like you've got it covered!~
After trick-or-treating, which Haley insisted we kept doing until her bag was bulging with candy, we went back to the shop where Haley began to count her candy.
"So are you going to meet your parents tomorrow?" Jake asked.
"I dunno," I said. "I'll have to ask Faith, and then--"
"Faith isn't the boss of you," he said. "You can visit your parents whenever you want."
"I know, I just...don't know how to get there," I said. Just then, Fu walked out.
"She gave me the directions before she left," he said.
"Were you eavesdropping?" Jake asked.
"Kinda," he said. "Is that a bad thing?"
"No," Jake said. "It's...good. What are the directions?"
"They're on the counter," Fu said, walking over to Haley. "I see trick-or-treating went well."
"Yeah, and it was long too," Jake said.
"Well she is a Long," Fu said. "Get it? Long? Ah, nevermind." We rolled our eyes. "You two should go in the morning, but first, you need to sleep."
"Sounds good to me," I said, yawning.
"That means you too, Candy Queen," Jake said to Haley.
"That's Candy Princess to you!" she said, stuffing her candy back in her bag.
"Whatever," Jake said. "I'm gonna take her home. Will you be ok here?"
"Sure," I said. "Gives me some time to practice my magic...Got anywhere I can practice?"
"Ask Fu," he said. "Just...Stay inside."
"Just as long as you be careful!" I said.
"I will," he said. "You can probably practice in the back room." I hugged him and went into the back room and practiced focusing my magic on items that weren't too fragile for about 20 minutes before Jake came back. He walked in.
"Knock knock," he said.
"Hi," I said. "Ready for bed?" He nodded.
"I'm bushed!" he said.
In the morning, I caught the scent of pancakes cooking somewhere.
How are they cooking pancakes? I thought. They don't even have a stove...Unless... I walked out, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes.
"Are you making pancakes?" I asked Jake. He grinned.
"Yep."
"Why?" I asked.
"So you can eat, duh," he said. He took the pan that was in his hand and blew fire at the bottom. I smiled.
"Well, that was nice of you," I said, sitting down. There was a mirror by the counter, which I saw out of the corner of my eye and turned to it. "Ugh, my hair is a mess." Then I smiled. I wonder if I should try to...Nah. It's too risky. But I couldn't resist the temptation. I closed my eyes and then it felt like someone was touching my hair, and when I opened my eyes, my hair was fixed. "Did you just--?"
"Nope," he said. "That was you. You must've used magic again." I grinned.
"Awesome!" I exclaimed. He shook his head with a wide smile. "What?"
"Nothing, it's just funny," he said. "Here's breakfast. Let me just get a--" I pointed at the counter and two plates appeared before my eyes. "Looks like you've got it covered!" He dropped two pancakes on mine and two on his. I was grinning broadly at the pride of my new powers as we started to eat.
"So, what are we going to do?" I asked. He swallowed his pancakes.
"About what?" he asked.
"The Huntsman," I said.
"Oh, um," he said. He seemed unprepared for this question. He shrugged. "We'll think of something when we need to."
"Are we still going to see Faith?" I wondered aloud.
"Of course," Jake said. We finished in silence, then he took the directions and told me to get on his back so he could fly me to Faith's house.
"Where is it?" I asked, once we were in the air.
"It's not too far," he said. "There's a school slightly closer then ours...Ironic, isn't it?"
"Yes," I said. "I hate irony!" He landed in front of Faith's house, allowed me to get off, transformed back to normal, and knocked on the door...
