More specifically, mainstream movies.
I don't think the movies being produced lately are anything special, they are either remaking older movies, or comic books. And if they are original ideas, they end up being a parc movie.

Yeah, I have to agree with you. Though, it's not really the remakes that bother, so much as it is the sequels.
I mean, every freaking movie is part of a series nowadays! They can't just leave something at one movie, no, they have to spoil it by making another. I mean, in my opinion, there are a lot of movies out there that are crap, but probably would've maintained a good reputation if that hadn't a sequel i.e. Shrek, Pirates of the Carribean etc.
And while I admit to never actually having seen a Saw movie before I can't understand the need for five of them. I mean, doesn't it just seem the same after awhile?
There are a few exceptions to this though.
I also think that some movies when written on a script appear like good ideas on paper, so to speak, but just turn out crap when they're actually made into a movie. Tropic Thunder is a good recent example of this, I think. Because the idea was good, but I really didn't like the movie at all.

I am actually reasonably happy with the quality of recent movies, fair enough in the older days it was considered more specialised so only the really good ones got through, theres less of that filtering these days now that many people try their hand at making the movies. To me the number of bad movies have gone up, but thats with the rise in overall movies being made, I feel that the number of good movies have gone up as well.

It's half and half, that's what it always will be. Some are good, and some are bad. Not all mainstream movies are bad though. I've liked a few(I rarely see them though since the tickets cost so much ugh) and I've disliked a few.

I voted yes but it depends which ones because some ones are really good at first but the sequel is a total piece of cr*p

I totally have to disagree with all of these people saying sequels turn to crap. I love all of the Star Wars movies and my least favourite being The Clone Wars. When a movie comes out there generally is a 50% chance of being a hit. So by 2 sequels of so it's a heavy gamble so you can expect atleast one to suck. And all the hype around movie sequels makes it hard for them to live up to the expectations. As an example i expected nothing from ADJL but loved it. I expected alot from Star Wars Clone Wars and read lots of preview things but didnt like it as much because the surprises weren't surprising.

I didn't said ALL I said SOME. I'm thinking about some movies where the first opus is kickaxx and the second is just an epic fail.
