A/N:I am the author and am fully entiltled to my rights.
Epilogue: He had one of the greatest potentials to lead the only remaining pack to victory, unlike many unsuccessful leaders in the past,Chandler Hendrix had ideas.Strength, clever wits and strong leadership he displayed often enough times to impress his fellow pack members, but in the back of his mind he felt unsettled about their ways of survival.Said pack, less then twenty full-blooded werewolves, followed the traditions of their ancestors and travelled to the human realm so they could perform an act seen as very moral and their only means of survival;hunting down humans.
But they could only travel by full moon and when no clouds blocked it.The saliva in their mouths mingled with a bitten human's DNA hypnotized the human and caused them to jounery back to the male werewolve's hidden realm of Transamity.Since it was female humans that were targeted, they mated with the full male pack and were isolated until giving birth. For unknown reasons, only male offspring were produced for the last one-hundred years
Once spent, the females were looked upon as no longer worthwhile and were cast aside. Then one day,it was Chandler's first time to perform the task.He didn't question their ways and at the time found it intriguing. But only when he went to the human realm tracked and then selected a young woman, did he have second thoughts.Humans,he was taught, were only tools for used for survival.
Since it wasn't a full moon,he had been permitted to use the pack's amulet to transform. It was the only one to speak of and it allowed them change without the aid of a full moon in the human realm. They could stay in their werewolve forms within their own realm but to have it in the human realm, they either had to have along the amulet or have a full moon in which to maintain their true forms at all.
This young woman he cornered in an alleyway in his werewolve form, was hunched down into a trembling ball of terror, seeming almost fragile to touch.Curious,he reverted to his human-like appearance with the help of the full moon-shaped amulet he sported around his neck .Once he saw it's ivory glue diminsh,he slid his large hand under the quietly sobbing woman's chin and rose her face to look up at him. From the moment he saw her enchanting light jade eyes,he knew he couldn't do the beautiful human any harm, bite and subdue her or otherwise. The woman blinked in a bit of confusion, but smiled warmly up at him.He in turn, smiled back.At that moment,he knew it was love.
A year later,Transamity,1992...
The crescent moon that hung up in the deep occult of night hardly aided the creature who was at the moment on the run;for his life.Rasping, gutturally underlined panting was the only sound that filled his ears as he crashed and tumbled through the old forest's entanglement of both dead branches and brittle vines. The cold whips of wind that shot past him tightened his throat and made his chest ache,to where he was nearly choking on it.He noted winter wasn't the best of seasons for fleeing.
If I could just get to the portal.A single train of prehensile thought came to him,as he shouldered his way through an already withered tree.I will be able to return to the human realm and away from all of this. The idea of it all was almost to glorious to think about at once.Return to Sharon.
His desirous musing was abruptly shooken from him,as a blaring howl pierced the frigid night air and was enough even to muffle his own rapid breaths, his lungs and heart stinging from running so long in the cold and his giant arms feeling like weights that could drag him down at any moment's notice. But a steady hum from up ahead kept him from collasping altogether, helped to motivate his weary soul.
"Chandler..."A deep, ghostly voice rumbled behind him.
It's monotonous was something to fear,as was the creature in which it belonged to.As the path he had created himself cleared out into nothing but dry leaves that crunched beneath his paws and the promising pinpoint of white light in the distance that flickered only slightly,a strand of hope for the first time in a long time settled over him and adrenline caused his joints to fuel with renewedness.
Almost there,He thought jovially, letting some of the inner conflict in him slip away.Almost there.
In a loud yelp of surprise, the creature felt a heavy bulk ram into his side. The force knocked him into a still sturdy tree and some remnants of snow clumped on a few of the branches pelted the large canine.Huffing,he turned his amber eyes up only to have them lock with a pair of blood-red ones. They sent a devastating reminder rippling through him, causing him to turn away from them.
"You betrayed us,"Bane reminded him in a haunting, breathless tone. His presence drew closer to Chandler and made him want to lash out at his former friend,he didn't need to hear this anymore.
"I..."he attempted to speak in a strong voice but couldn't complete his sentence, his fatigue winning.
"Look at me!"Came a sharp order."Look at me right this instant and tell me."his voice sounded as eager to hear Chandler's reasons once again as Chandler was to leave."Tell me why.Once more."
He felt the end of Bane's muzzle near his face,he heard the werewolve's panting above him in his eardrums like spears raining down on his nerves and the layer of nearly melted snow absorbing into his thick, silverish pelt.It became clear to him that Bane could kill him in cold blood right now at even the a small show of defiance but instead of letting him have the final say,Chandler opened his eyes.
The exhales of humid, smelling breath stung his pupils but he resisted pushing Bane away.Instead,as slowly and as nobly as the young werewolve could,he rose shakily to his feet.Every part of him at this point was corded with pain but he did not release his gaze that was held firmly with his rival's.
"I did what I did..."His voice was tired, almost hoarsh from running so long."Because I believe..."
Now that the putrid fumes of werewolve breath had dissolved from his nostrils and he was able to breath more normally,he instantly caught the scent of four male pack member's of various age that were assembled off to either side of Bane.Pretending they weren't there but raising a pitch in his voice even unnecessarily as their hearing range was supberb,Chandler mustered all of his courage.
"What we assumed about humans are wrong. They are not mindless creatures intended to be used for exploitation. They are intelligent, resourceful beings who could possibly help our last tiny band of werewolves flourish if given the chance."he turned more confident as an uncertain look crossed the jet black werewolve's features."We could forage an alliance with the race and stop abusing them."
The depth of his words seemed to cause a murmuring of consideration among the few others that were off to the sides.Chandler lifted his head a little higher, watching Bane expectantly as he quietly debated the supposively turncoated werewolve's proposal. After what felt like an eternity,he gazed back into the other wolve's eyes, bowed his head momentarily and then...lunged forward to attack.
Caught off guard at starting to believe his new views would be accepted by the current second-in-command of the pack,Chandler rolled out of the way and backed slowly away, leaning down low on his hunches as Bane drew more near. The large ball of ivory light that was the gateway into the realm of humans casted it's radiance upon them, giving off the gleam of Bane's deadly and exposed fangs.
"Your end will be quick,"he promised."But remember Chandler, you brought this upon yourself."
The werewolve nodded in acceptance."Yes,it's true.I knew from the moment I returned from my first mission what the dangers would be.Still,I've returned to the human realm for all these months."
Bane paused and simply stared at him."Well,is that not that like you?"he scoffed in mild sarcasm."I always knew you to only voice your true feelings at the most critical stage, this by far the biggest."
"It is,"Chandler agreed solemnly."That is why I must make the most of this opportunity as I can."
He obtained a curious look from Bane in response."Consider these your final words,Hendrix."
The name leaped out at him and despite all that he had been through,it caused him to smile even as Bane didn't give him the last request he had promised and got into a stance to go for his throat, the others encicled Chandler as he stood in fond wistfulness to be with his new family. His wife, his son.
"DIE!"
One moment Bane was hurrying to finish what he started, quite sure that the other werewolve was too much into himself to react anymore, when he recieved a violent slap across his face that caused him to unleash a pained howl and draw back.Instantly, the others rushed to their co-alpha dog's aid.
"Don't try and help me,you fools."He growled angerily, turning away to hide the slash mark."Get-"
But before he could finish,Chandler was gone and with him the lit portal began to wane inward. He would have loved for nothing more then to charge through in pursuit but he knew it would be futile at this point. So all four pack members merely stood there, staring,as the brim of dawn started to form.
The human realm,in a deserted park in early morning...
Before he knew it,the young werewolve's four paws had hit the ground and was still going at a sprint down a small hill.He could take in his surroundings immediately,a concrete path ran arced around the hump of land he was slowing partway down on and a tall, rusted lamp of light splayed a gentle yellow glow down on a park bench.A person's and hooded head was turned to him,not yet noticing that a giant wolf-like canine stood behind them.Chandler sat back with a paw poised up to his furry chest.
"Hello,"He accousted the person catiously, trying not to startle them into looking around and if they in fact did and it wasn't who he needed to see,he knew he would have to make a break for it."Hello?"
"Who's there?!"The person gasped,sounding startled.
Chandler sat even more erect and was ready to run."No!Don't turn around."he started to turn away.
A soft, familiar chuckling caused him to freeze in place."I've been waiting around forever for you."
Relief drained into him and grasping the necklace around his neck, shifted back down to his other self which was that of a tall young man with wavy dark brown hair parted to the side and medium golden eyes.Hooking his thumbs around his jean beat loops that were only some of his fairly newly attained human realm attire,Chandler made his way around to where a young woman cradled a small bundle.
"Hello,Sharon."He smiled warmly at her.
She rose her faintly colored emerald eyes up to him and smiled back in welcome."Hello,Chandler."
Wordlessly,he moved his arm around her shoulders and took a seat, her long auburn hair brushing to her side along with it.Hugging his wife close to him,the disguied werewolve admired the round face of the newborn presented before him.His chubby cheeks flushed and the rest of his face wrinkling.
"May I?"
Sharon nodded once."Of course you may,Daddy."
Taking his small infant in his arms and handling him as if he was the most valued person in any world whether human or werewolve,Chandler gently pressed his son up to him,the need to protect washed over him.He could sense Sharon was about to open her mouth, when the baby moaned uneasily and only when he opened his big light green eyes to set his sights on his father, did Michael begin to smile.
"His name is Michael Alan Hendrix."He heard her say instead, but he knew there was more to it.
"Hendrix, that's a good name."Chander spoke approvingly but then he frowned."Sharon,we should-"
An explosion from behind them jolted him to his feet and, fearing for his family's safety, shoved his son back into Sharon's arms. When she tried to protest when he told her to run and that she wouldn't just abandon him after all Chandler had given up to be with them, the werewolve did the only thing that he could think of to save his family; He embraced her and then turned to take off running into the forest.
But this time,he went around the hill and attempted to lead Bane or one others away from his family.
He ran so far and so long in his human form, that he eventually fainted upon reaching rhe park's end.
Although he didn't encounter a deadly fate that night,Chandler did encounter a much more grim and horrible fate.A fate he had to live with himself for fourteen and a half long and grueling years, and that was being without his wife or child.Instead,he settled down within the human realm and although he eventually found out they were alright, there was something that he knew he had to wait around for...
The emergence of the first werewolve hybrid and what kind of a future Michael Hendrix would lead.
