'Sup everyone? Just wondering if anyone here got a token to go onto the Call of Duty 4 Multiplayer Beta. If you do, sign your XBox 360 LIVE Gamertag here! If anyone DOES have one, or is going to get one in the lottery thing, then let's set up a game!

I just got a Beta code from Gamespot today (special promotional thing; they're giving away a limited number of tokens to Gamespot members each day this week). I'm not too good at most FPS games online but I managed to get my rank up to Sergeant today.

I want to ask on the gameplay, well, does it look or play like EA's Battlefield 2?

I want to ask on the gameplay, well, does it look or play like EA's Battlefield 2? As far as how it looks it's pretty much in the same ballpark as EA's Medal of Honor and Battlefield series (coincidentally former developers for early MoH titles split off and formed "Infinity Ward", which went on to start the highly successful Call of Duty franchise). Though it differs from Medal of Honor and the earlier Battlefield games (1942 and Vietnam) by being in modern times. The basic mechanics I'd imagine are the same as any FPS, but the game also has a very neat progression-based reward system. You literally earn experience through playing multiplayer to promote yourself to higher military ranks (from lowly private to "Gunnery Sergeant" at this current time in the MP beta), and along the way unlock various new weapons, challenges (in-game tasks to complete that offer large experience rewards and even more stuff), and "perks", which are special traits that you can apply to your character to offer special bonuses to your ability. Some perks can increase your bullet damage, or allow you to take more damage, and lots of other neat stuff. You even earn special rewards doing well in the heat of a multiplayer match. Earning kill streaks grant you abilities. Progressing from buffing up your RADAR to know exactly where your enemies are, to calling on an airstrike, and even having a helicopter fly in and decimate the enemy team from above. It's almost like incorporating the satisfaction of achieving levels in an online RPG into an online FPS multiplayer component, and it works really well. Plus the game runs incredibly smooth, keeping it running at a quick pace to make firefights a lot more hectic.
