My name is Phoenix Wright. I am a Defense Attorney at Wright&co. Over the course of my job I have been down many different and difficult paths. I’ve had to deal with many crooks and lairs over the years, some were easy to spot while others would try and pit the blame of the crime onto another. The courtroom is like a battle ground for us lawyers and prosecuting attorneys. We both go in there, head strong never knowing what to expect. Sometimes, cases have seemed open and shut from the start, but they always seemed to have led me down one twisted path after another. But, no matter what may seem to be the cause, the only thing we can do is bring justice to those who are truly guilty. The only way I can defend someone is to trust in my clients innocence, and believe what they say. People have told me to never believe in my clients, for they only come to you for protection of there own wrong doing. But I myself know that’s not true, many people have asked for my help many of those people who were really innocent from the start. I defend someone for one reason only, and that is to set them free from the burden that falls upon them. If my client really is innocent, then there is always a way to see it through to the end, with a proper verdict of “Not Guilty” and the one responsible will get his proper punishment. I sometimes find it hard to believe I'm still in this line of work. whenever I seem to be getting somewhere there’s always some little shred of evidence or some little bit of a testimony that throws suspension back onto my client. But no matter what the situation the outcome will be the same, and a “Not Guilty” verdict will be heard throughout the courtroom.
Case 1 Trail by Turnabout.
[March 16th, 10.13 am, Wright&co law office]
Phoenix: *yawn* Wow, things sure have been quite slow around here for a while. I haven’t gotten any new offers in a few weeks now. I hope someone comes along soon, I need something to pay this weeks rent.
Maya: Oh, stop whining Nick. You know how things are, it’s usually quite around here for a while, but then some random client comes in and asks for your help in a big case. You know these things don’t come quickly.
Phoenix: Yeah, that pretty much sums up about how things work around here. One minute were sitting here watching “The Steel Samurai” And the next, someone comes bursting through the door, asking to defend his or her friend or family member.
Maya: Yep. Now be quite, a new episode of the Steel Samurai is coming on.
Phoenix: Alright, just please don’t try some of the moves you see on TV this time. Last time you karate kicked the glass lamp and turned it to shards.
Maya: Lighten up Nick, I’ll be more careful this time.
Phoenix: I sure hope so. My paycheck this time will have to cover the old one. (This is my partner, Maya Fey. She is the little sister of Mia Fey, my good friend and mentor. But unfortunately, one case brought Mia’s career to an end and is now only coming to me through Maya. The Fey family is known for it’s high spiritual power and can call back the deceased for a short time. While they are doing this however, the spirit takes control of the mediums body for a brief period. If were desperate, Maya sometimes calls forth her deceased sister to lend a helping hand if I find myself in a tight situation. Maya also has a knack of bringing trouble upon herself. I’ve had to defend her in a few trials and she’s been my most prize worthy client of them all. But now, we both work cases together and she’s still in training to become as great as a spirit medium as her big sis.)
Maya: Alright, it’s coming on Nick. And now, FOR GREAT JUSTICE!
The rest of the day was a very uneventful one. Me and Maya just sat around the office. No new offers were a called for and pretty much everything just remained the same. Later that night I closed down the office and came home, it was like every other night…..that is until I got that phone call.
Cell phone: ring…..ring…..ring…..*BEEP*
Phoenix: H-hello this is Phoenix Wright.
??: PAL! I’m so glad I got hold of you!
Phoenix: W-who is this?
??: It’s me pal. You know, Gumshoe.
Phoenix: Gumshoe?
Gumshoe: There you go pal.
Phoenix: Gumshoe, why are you calling now, it’s 4.00 in the morning.
Gumshoe: Yeah, about that. Pal I really need your help!
Phoenix: Help? With what?
Gumshoe: Well you see…..I’ve been accused of killing one of my fellow officers.
Phoenix: W-WHAT?!
Gumshoe: Listen pal, I don’t have much time to explain. I just need a lawyer, and I’m hoping you’ll take the case.
Phoenix: W-well this is unexpected…..when does the trial start?
Gumshoe: Today, at 10.00am
Phoenix: T…T…TODAY?! But I don’t even have a single piece of evidence! How do you expect me to defend you if I don’t even know what really happened?!
Gumshoe: Just calm down pal. I’ll fill you in on what happened when you get to court....that is if you’ll be willing to take my case for me.
Phoenix: I....I’ll do it. But I don’t know what will come of it. I mean, do we even have a witness?
Gumshoe: Yeah, apparently someone says they saw me commit the crime. But, you gotta believe me pal, I wouldn’t kill anyone! Especially one of my own officers.
Phoenix: I believe you.
Gumshoe: Thanks pal....oh I have to hang up now. I’ll see you at court.
Phoenix: Alright, see you in a few hours.
Cell phone: *BEEP*
Phoenix: (That was my good friend, detective Gumshoe. He has both helped and caused a lot of trouble with my past cases. He works for the police department and usually gives me some help with collecting evidence. He has made some trials more hard for me, thanks to the way he does his job, but I know deep down he’s a good guy. But to be accused of murder of all things, just doesn’t suit him. I have no evidence what’s so ever and not even sure I have a full grasp about what’s going on, but gumshoe needs me more then ever. I guess….I can only hope for the best in court, and find a way to turn this whole situation around…)
