I'm sure that most of the country doesn't really have this problem. I would think it would be the states of California, New York, and other traditionally Democratic states which have these problems. It is moral and mental degradation which allows the public to be overly acceptant of issues such as Ground Zero Mosque and so on.

No, Some idiots who were Islamic slammed planes into buildings does not mean that a small mosque cannot be built a few blocks away from ground zero.
Let them build the Mosque, and show the terrorists we don't care about their stupidity, it ain't gonna make us change our ways or scare us into disallowing places of worship.
If it was a tribute to Bin Laden, or KSM things would be different, I would agree that would be extremely inappropriate.

now that's just stupid wanting to stop some group from building a mosque simply because its close to Ground Zero. as long as it isn't glorifying the ass holes that slammed plains in to the twin towers theres nothing wrong with it.
i still think we should of built a record breaking tower (like maybe worlds tallest?) instead of the Freedom Towers that are shorter and less useful than the Twin Towers...

Freedom Tower will be taller than the World Trade Center. The only thing is, by the time it is completed, there will be at least 10 other buildings taller than it.
For Ground Zero Mosque, some also oppose it because of the way it is to be built, the architectural design looks like "falling Stars of Davids", symbolic for the Muslim hate towards Jews.

If you count to the roof height, they are level, counting the Spires, yeah the freedom tower raises to 1776 feet in honour of the year the independence declaration was signed, which makes it about 50 feet higher than the old WTC. From Looking at it, yeah I can see how they get the image of Star of David, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ground_Zero_MosqueHowever the myth that all Islamic people hate Jews comes into play here. The second largest Jewish population in the Middle east is in Iran, and they are well accepted by the community. I don't know how well the are accepted by the current conservative Iranian government, although it certainly appears they are not oppressed by them, or no more oppressed than the rest of the Shia population anyway. The conservative and fundamentalist Muslims are like your skinheads in America, the difference being its a little more prevalent in the Middle east. Still its not enough for me to make generalizations about the entire population of the Muslem world.

If it was a tribute to Bin Laden, or KSM things would be different, I would agree that would be extremely inappropriate. The problem is, we don't know who funds it. It COULD be the Taliban for all we know. If they get their act together and show who exactly is paying for it, and it's all regular, average-joe muslims, then fine, go for it. The US is based on freedom and all. If other countries or organization are though, I have an issue with that.

"The majority of the center will be open to the general public and its proponents have said the center will promote interfaith dialogue." The building itself isn't restricted to islamic people, although the utilities there will have an Islamic focus. What would the Taliban, or Al Qaeda get out of funding a building with a prayer room? (After reading more about the issue, I found its not even a Mosque, the building just has an Islamic Prayer Room). If the Taliban or Al Qaeda are going to commit more terrorist attacks, they are going to try get the proponents to blend in, plus most western Islam teaches Ideals different to what people like Bin Laden want to spread. Since its a prayer room, there maybe a custodian or Clergyman, but there will not be a Imam actually preaching to them. As for funding, do you have information which contradicts en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ground_Zero_Mosque#Project_history or its sources?

I don't know about you, but having the mosque built near Ground Zero only brings back the bad memories of 9/11, if you were the authority, do you think that it's too sensitive to be built there. That place is a place of worship and being Islam is only giving good Muslims and all non-Muslim people a giant bad memory of the place. I prefer it's a Buddhist temple, or Church or even just a 9/11 memorial centre. That is better, but a mosque? No way, Jose.

(this was the last design that i new about) well don't really have a problem with it any more, (still less usable space but that really isn't of my concern). at least it will be tallest in America. LINK for comparison of the old design i was remembering and the current one. I don't know about you, but having the mosque built near Ground Zero only brings back the bad memories of 9/11, if you were the authority, do you think that it's too sensitive to be built there. if it even looked remotely like a Mosque then you may have an argument. if i wasn't told that it was one, then i wouldn't have ever guessed it to be one.

Wikipedia also did say this, some Muslims support it that, if the mosque is gone and replaced by a non-Muslim place of worship, it'll be totally unfair. Even Bill Clinton also understands that there are Muslims killed in the twin towers. But honestly, I prefer to be on the 9/11 families' side, tear it down and turn it into a shop or something.
