I am trying to catch up on watching episodes I recorded weeks ago. After watching most of "A Befuddled Mind" (cut off during middle of last fight), I believe Spud's family history must have magical creatures involved.
Warning, if you have not watched "Talented Mr. Long" and "A Befuddled Mind" and do not want any spoilers, do not read further.
In "Talented Mr. Long," Spud had a magical phrase taught by one of his relatives that was a magician/illusionist. In "A Befuddled Mind," Spud solved the lock code instantly. Overall, I think one of Spud's ancient relatives was the one who made the seal.
It could be a great AmDrag movie to see Spud delve into his family's history if his family was involved in wizardry.

Could be. That was a good point there! Spud also gets froggy powers in the Shaggy Frog.

He does, but I'm not quite sure his family is of magical descent.

I think if Spud's family was of magical descent, it would have at least been acknowledged by now. I mean, Jake trusts Spud and Trixie with his dragon powers; I think Spud could trust Jake and Trixie if he had magical abilities of his own.

I don't know if Spud has magical powers but, it would be interesting to find out.

You do not have to have magical abilities to use magic. As long as you know how to manipulate reagents and such like Fu Dog does, you can have magic. Some wizards in certain stories have no magic at all, but they are very smart and learn how to conjure magic through gestures, words, and items possessing magical powers.

IIRC, Spud' grandpa used to tell him tales of mermaids (and mermen), which Spud mentioned in "Something Fishy This Way Comes."

If he's related to Magic he might not know himself, a movie about him and his family being related to that stuff might not be such a bad idea. I'd love in fact, speaking of which I can't wait to see the episode where Spud gets froggy like powers.

IIRC, Spud' grandpa used to tell him tales of mermaids (and mermen), which Spud mentioned in "Something Fishy This Way Comes." It was his grandma, but you have a point... Yeha, that sort of ruined a story idea I had, involving Jake and Rose, time travel, D-Day, mermaids living off the Cotentin Peninsula, the SS, Sigmund Brock, 1940s Huntsclan, and a young 82nd Airborne paratrooper with the surname of Spudinski. The fact that the mermaid Spud's grandma spoke of lived in the East River (am I correct on that) kills that idea further. On topic - I do agree with Redemption on Spud's family not having magical powers.
