I'm going to post a couple of links on this thread that users can use to try an deal with some of the problems that plague teen life. I'm going to try and separate the links by type of advice required.
One Nice site for teens and Young adults (18-24) is this site here www.kidshealth.org/teen/ It has a great deal of information of teen issues and is pretty blunt. It's also varied enough to tackle many different issues.
Depression:
www.helpguide.org/mental/depression_teen.htm : Pretty basic overview of teen depression, and its causes.
www.medscape.com/viewarticle/513130 : article on WebMD that deals with the correlation between risky behavior and depression. Primarily informative and preventative
www.about-teen-depression.com/ : Site that deals specifically with teen depression.
thetrevorproject.org/helpline.aspx home of the Trevor project, a US-wide hotline that can help people deal with depression and self-damaging thoughts.
www.befrienders.org/ : Society dedicated to hel;ping people combat self-destructive thoughts. The US branch can be found here
www.nimh.nih.gov/publicat/depression.cfm Publication on Depression from the National Institute for Mental Health. The site has good data for a number of diseases in addition to standard depression.
www.depression-screening.org/ A confidential online screening which, while not a medical diagnosis can be used to see whether you are in true depression.
Stress[/u]
www.stress.org/ American Institute of stress. This site provides some good ideas on methods to decrease stress and avoid it.
www.kidshealth.org/teen/your_mind/emotions/stress.html : Stress site directed at teens.
hcd2.bupa.co.uk/fact_sheets/html/stress.html A factsheet on Stress. It has a bit of information of causes and factors in stress, and some methods of treatment.
This is all I can think of primarily at the moment, but I'll try to keep this up to date as I can. Feel free to post relevant links in this section. The teen years are one of the most stressful and challenging portions of life, and we all need as much help as we can get. As I say on the boards, if you have any comments, thoughts or questions, feel free to pm me.
