Chapter 14: A Fortuitous Adoration
The sky went from a bright, starry atmosphere to a dark firmament that had shone nothing but the wanning crescent; the moon that is. But still, the time had struck quarter to midnight… and still, they stayed; as they enjoyed themselves in the cool and wonderful feel of this… how should I say this? Sensation. Yeah, that’s it.
At this time, the four had pretty much known that they needed some “privacy”… and they expected it all just to mostly talking.
“Aw, that’s SO sweet!” Kay grinned as Florence and Ash told the amorous story. It was like a conversation with only the girls; the ones who were most likely to think this friends stuff is… well, adorable. The guys just thought of it as a little game or a little “thing they would do to thank us later.” Well, so they thought. Who in the world have two exactly similar perspectives on love? Or is it the guys won’t tell us something? I really don’t know. I’ll ask a boy one time.
“Yup it was!” Florence said. “We’re hoping we could get them to crack and tell each other how they feel.”
“I just KNOW they like each other.” Ash added.
“Agreed.” Leah said. “How can that NOT be love?”
The girls giggled and talked, while sitting in a circle around Madisen, Leah, and Kay’s dorm… it was pretty big to fit some more people too. Besides, only the girls were there. The boys… well, let’s just say they went to go “watch” some more. The girls just felt like the word HAD to get out; only it would be a secret from Kevin and Amanda of course.
“What do you say we do the same thing you and Ash did?” Madisen said. “Only it would an even pushier song! And it’d be all of the girls doing it.”
“You’re a genius, Madisen!” Leah grinned. “That would be so cool!”
“And who knows? We might get them to lose their reticent attitudes and tell each other!” Kay said. “That would be a good game of match making!”
“Yeah it would!” Florence beamed. After giggles and grins were done being exchanged and being spread around, there was a knock on the door.
“Come in!” Leah called out.
The door opened and Shade came in.
“Gee, you girls are loud.” He remarked. “I could practically relive the whole conversation.”
Florence rolled her eyes. “So, what’s up, Shade?”
He helped her up. “Isn’t it midnight already?”
“Yeah… what about it?”
“Isn’t it time for you to head back yet?”
“Uhhh…” Flo blinked. “I… think… AH! I got to hurry!” She glanced back at everyone. “Sorry guys! I got to go!!”
“Bye Florence!” All the girls replied back to her.
“We hope we’ll see you tomorrow!” Leah called out after.
“I’ll try!” Flo replied back before shutting the door. She and Shade had left the room and they stood in the hallway together.
“Thank you SO much for reminding, Shade.” Florence said with somewhat gratefulness. “I would’ve been dead meat if I was gone out until a quarter after midnight.”
“No problem.” He said. “Just looking out for you!”
“You’re the best!”
They both exchanged hugs and Florence quickly made her staff appear, said a final farewell to Shade, and disappeared with a blink of an eye… literally. Shade grinned and headed back to his dorm.
OoOoOoOoOoO
Florence made it back to the Huntslair, seeing Huntsdad in front of her.
“Oh… uh… hey dad.” She said, hiding her staff behind her back.
“You were just in time.” He said, pointing at the clock; it was exactly a quarter after midnight. “I was beginning to worry that I couldn’t trust you anymore.”
Flo made a sigh of relief. “Well, at least I’m here, right?”
“That’s correct.” He said. “Now, the clan has decided to postpone the mission until tomorrow.”
“Alright.” Flo said with a grin. It was a perfect moment to whoop and cheer, but only stood casually. “Can I still head off somewhere today?”
“Of course you can.” Huntsdad replied. “But if you can, try and be back a little early… you’ll need it for when we head off in the morning.”
“Ahhh, okay… soo… is, say, ten-ish alright for you?” Florence asked.
“Yes.” He nodded.
“Thanks!” She grinned and headed to her room.
OoOoOoOoOoO
Roxy stood there, astounded at how informal and smooth the conversation with Huntsdad and Florence went.
“Did you hear that?” She said, starting to sound a little angry again. “She even gets to ‘schedule’ when she gets back today!!!” She scoffed. “I’ve tried to be like Florence and talk to Huntsdad exactly like that. BUT NO. It’s always him yelling back.”
A friend of her’s and Chris sat down on her bed.
“Aw come on Roxy.” Jackie said. She was her friend and fellow organization member; also known as number six in the group. “It’s not like jealous too.” She really wasn’t exactly… Jackie and Florence were alike in a way that they both rarely had any signs of hate or envy. All she was trying to do was try and calm her down. It wasn’t like she had a cold heart either.
“Well, then you know how it feels then!” She pouted. “I mean, I’ve seen the biggest secret she holds. I could easily let her know what it’s like.”
“But Roxy…” Jackie remarked.
“I tried to tell her.” Chris muttered.
OoOoOoOoOoO
The next day, Florence had headed off to DISOM real early. Huntsdad allowed her, of course, so she just freely left at the usual time, at five in the morning. She knew she only had five or six hours of sleep and that everyone probably wasn’t up yet… but she wanted to wake up somebody. I mean you wouldn’t want to be bored all morning.
She grinned and knocked on Shade’s dorm. “Oh, Shade!!”
“Nooo.” He muttered sleepily. “You’ll never get catch aliveeee…”
“SHADE! It’s me! Florence!”
“That’s a funny name…”
“Wake up already!!!”
“Haha… you like cheeeese…”
Florence rolled her eyes. “Very funny, Shade. I know you’re already up this early.”
“Who’s Shade?”
“Come on already.” She giggled, knocking at the door one last time.
She heard the door open and there he stood. “Hah, I knew I couldn’t fool you.”
“You think?” She came up and hugged him.
OoOoOoOoOoO
“So, you guys have the plan in your heads?” asked Florence.
“Yup!” All the girls nodded.
They looked over and saw Kevin and Amanda walking together, talking of course. They somehow looked as if they were together when they were only friends—strange.
“Ahhh… it’s been only one day since they’ve known each other and they’re acting like some charming couple.” Florence muttered silently, a sense of adoration for this cinematic-like friendship. Everyone agreed as well, though… it was as if they’ve known each other for years. Just all of the other couples; Jake and Rose, Shade and Florence, Ash and Al, and etcetera.
They watched as they took a seat nearby. Almost all of the girls slipped out an “aww” while Shade and Al just rolled their eyes.
“Gee… I wonder what that song I kept hearing last night was trying to tell me.” Amanda muttered.
“Yeah… same here.” Kevin inquired with a bemused reply. “And I can’t help but think it all sounded like some people who were familiar were singing it from a distance.”
“I wouldn’t know.” She said. “I don’t know everybody here.”
“Well, maybe I should introduce you to everyone one time, huh?” He asked.
“That’d be cool,” grinned Amanda. “I mean… I somehow feel so comfortable talking to you, though. It’s like I’m so used to you being my… well, friend.”
“Really? I don’t get that a lot,” thought Kevin.
“I’m surprised.” She scratched her head. “You seem like a guy who would be pretty good with other people.”
“Never thought of it that way.”
Florence giggled softly as they all stood somewhere feet away from where Kevin and Amanda sat. She couldn’t help herself, seeing all this adulation. “Awwww… that is SO sweet.”
“I know.” Kay gave a slow, contended sigh.
“So cute,” came from Leah.
“Girls,” Shade rolled his eyes.
“Come on, Shade.” Florence grinned, scooting closer to where he stood. “Don’t YOU enjoy the time you and me have together?”
“Well of course I do.” He replied.
“Then why are you teasing us?” She pushed playfully before he could say more. “Huh Shade? Huh???”
Shade grinned and pushed back teasingly as well. “Look who’s talking!”
“Okay guys, cut it out,” said Kay, rolling her eyes and teasing back at them. “We all know that you guys are lovers.”
“Hey!” They said concurrently, making a glance at each other.
“I rest my case.” She grinned proudly.
“Shhh!” Leah said. “They’re coming!!”
Everyone quieted down and continued looking over at them. It was getting kind of boring, though… all the two ever did was talk and talk and talk and… don’t make me say it… TALK. So they decided to just push somebody in and start being all teasingly again. And they knew just who would do the best at it.
“Hey!” Florence said after Shade and the rest pushed her to a location closest to them.
Amanda turned around and looked at Flo unexpectedly. “Uhhh…”
“Hey Florence.” Kevin said after he faced the same direction Amanda was. “What are you doing here?”
“Nothing.” She grinned casually. “Just wondering what you two were up to!”
“We’re… talking?”
“Kinda figured,” muttered Florence. “Anyway… why don’t you guys, you know, do something more? You know? More than just this ‘talking’.” She used air quotes when saying that previous word. “Besides, you guys have a week off of school… and today’s just Wednesday! Why don’t you two do something fun?” She paused. “Unless you think this is already fun, is it?”
Amanda blinked shyly after hearing that last sentence. “Well, it… kind of is.”
“Ohhh… fun talking to each other, huh?” inquired Florence.
“Well, yeah… kind of.” Kevin repeated.
“Sooo Kevin.” She broke the awkward silence that formed. “Have you ever showed Amanda around the school?” She paused. “Or is it that you two are too busy ‘talking to each other.’” Again, she used emphasis and air quotes when saying the last few words. They still grew a little quiet, but it didn’t take long for a reply.
“Well… making friends is the very first step.” Amanda replied. “I mean… I guess in this school it is.” She took a glance at Kevin. “It’s not like I want to be all alone, right?”
“Yeah, good point!” Florence said. “And what’s a better way to make friends with someone without showing the new girl around the school? And while you’re at it, why not browse at the sites OUTSIDE?” She grinned. “I mean… look at all the things Draco Island has to offer! There’s even a great place where couples can go! I mean, if you guys AREN’T a couple yet… Are you now?”
“Florence, what exactly are getting this to?” Kevin asked. Flo could tell that he kind of liked the way she was being teasing… It also sounded like he DID kind of like her. Though Flo knew it was obvious that he had feelings for her already… Kevin just wished Amanda felt the same way too; or at least, he wished he could find out.
“Hmm nothing…” She said with a mischievous-like tone. “I just keep mistaking you two for like… you know, a couple.”
“Well…”
They both couldn’t find a way to complete the sentence, both looking away nervously.
“I mean… you guys are always hanging around each other and almost nobody else. I even saw you guys going to the dance… like a… date?” Flo grinned sheepishly.
Amanda could feel herself forming another blush on her face, trying to look away to hide it. She, secretly, turned out to have feelings for Kevin too… but the problem was, she thought she would seem ridiculous telling him.
No, a guy like him would possibly never like me… She always thought to herself. Amanda always assumed, especially since she was… after all… the ‘new girl’. Of course, she wouldn’t EXACTLY know until she asks.
“What’s wrong now?” She teased. “You guys can’t talk anymore?”
“Can’t say that it’s true.” Kevin said, trying to hide his anxiousness. Amanda was endeavoring this same task as well… Flo thought to herself that it was working.
“Heh… well, you guys enjoy that then.” Florence grinned, never changing the tone of her voice. “I’ll be off somewhere if you guys need me!” She pretended to leave a certain direction but took a certain route around the school back to where the girls were spying.
“You think it worked?” Flo asked the group.
Shade was the first to react. “Well of course… you got them speechless!”
“Let’s just see for ourselves then!” Kay said, pointing at the two again.
“Oh come on, can’t we just start the song?” Cat said. “It’s not like we can’t wait for them to shift their topic just right away.”
“But isn’t it kind of awkward?”
“Shhh! I think they’re talking about it now!!!!!”
Kevin and Amanda walked to the back of the school, while everyone shifted their attentions and positions so they could see and hear them.
“Do you think Florence was trying to tell us something?” Amanda asked as she lingered her finger through her hair.
“What do you mean?” asked Kevin.
“Well… it’s true, we have been hanging around each other all the time.” She pointed out.
“And no one else.” He added.
“Yeah… and… like I said earlier, I’m always so comfortable talking to you… and… it’s like you’re my best friend already.”
“Again, I never thought of myself like that.”
“And once again, I am thoroughly surprised that you don’t get that.”
She paused. “Truth is… I really think you’re a cool guy.”
“Wow… well… I think you’re a great girl too.”
“It’s like you’re all the things I’ve been looking for…”
“And it’s as if both of us were meant to be.”
“So… what are you saying?”
“That… well, I kind of like you.”
“Really? Well… I… I like you too…”
There was awkward silence… and all of the girls, this time, awed and gasped so softly. It was so cool hearing that, to them that is.
Florence was practically crying. “I’ll say it once and I’ll say it again… that was SOO sweet!”
All of the girls agreed. “I know!”
“Guess this means no song?” Kay asked.
“I don't think so!” Florence said, pointing back at the two again.
“Soo… well… since we like each other… d-do you want to give this a shot? You know, we might actually be the perfect match.” Amanda glanced around.
“Yeah… I think we should,” replied Kevin.
“So…”
“Soooo…”
“Guess that means you’re my boyfriend?”
“As long as it means you’re my girlfriend!”
“Deal!”
They both hugged, glad that the other felt the same way as them…
End Chapter Fourteen
Yaaay... well, I'm obviously in a lurve writing mood.
Shoo anyways, I guess some of you might know that I'm heading off to Cali next Friday. Well, I am... so hah. XD I figured out that I still actually have internet access when I get to meh cousin's house in Livermore, but the only messenger I could use there is MSN (or that crappy windows one; so I won't have no smileys or avatars, bleh). I'll be away a whole lot too. My cousin will practically drag me everywhere. Their computer has sucky dial-up too, so I might sign off and on a lot also.
Point is, while I'm there... I'll still try and talk to you guys and work on AUA (I doubt I'll get a chapter done though). Welp. That's it. Later peoples. X3

PS: I know that I was supposed to add a song... but I decided to scratch it off... until NEXT chapter that is. XDDD
