You know, when I first read your post, Kevin, it makes it look like there’s nothing after, ‘this chapter sucked’, so I was all sad until I read it all. XDD Oh wow. Anyway, here’s the next chapter. RAFFI, LEAVE LONGER REPLIES. You leave short replies on the ones that are important, pfft.
Chapter 8: Events Shot Down
“We’re here.” Toph muttered as she shot to her feet and left the train that had stopped at it’s new location. Florence and Jake got up as well and started walking ahead.
“Is anyone waiting for us?” Jake asked as they got out of the train area and were now at Magus Bazaar. Right after this was said, earth covered any escape from where they were and members of the Lai Di shot from rooftops and circled them.
(A/N: I couldn’t think of any other enemies, so I decided to add a few Lai Di members.)
“I believe there is, Jake.” answered Florence as she pulled out her bow as well as preparing an arrow from her quiver. Toph simply grinned and her arms lurched to the ground, making earth rise and fire at some of the Lai Di.
“We beat these guys easily before, can’t they just give up!?” Jake called out as he shot a blast of fire at one of the people, watching an explosion form and moving a few of the Lai Di into a wall, but once some members got out of the circle, more people came in to fill the gaps.
“I think we need to do a little more than just attack them over and over.” Toph yelled to them. She shot her arms criss-cross and then straight up, causing the earth inside the circle of Lai Di to go up high. Jake and Florence lowered their guards as Toph shot the block she rose and made them travel along Magus Bazaar.
“We can keep going until we stop getting followed…” Florence muttered, preparing another arrow in case the Lai Di would get to close to them.
Shade and Josh decided to visit Bartholomew and were now in Dante’s mansion. Shade and his master were in a study/library area near a large window.
“Most of her books have disappeared, those left are useless.” Bartholomew told Shade, being on the side of a deck and looking at a book shelf.
“Tell me about Dante, I mean, what kind of person was she?” Shade asked his teacher, in the middle of the room.
“She was a great dragon from a long line of them… so I thought.” he replied, still looking at the book shelf with his arms crossed.
“What do you mean?”
“She was extremely thorough at hiding her knowledge of the magical community, I’m sure she knew more than she told me.”
“There’s nothing wrong with that, is there?” Shade continued to ask questions, “We keep our secrets from those who don’t know about us, right?”
“Yes, well she was certainly a master at doing that… if dragons and other magical members help the world and end up saving others, why do we hide it? She chose a life of isolation, living in these woods, seeing no one,” Bartholomew turned to look down at Shade, “but for what purpose?” he just looked at him and gasped a little. Bartholomew turned back to the bookcase, beginning a flashback…
“I was hoping you’d be happy for me.” a younger Bartholomew said to Dante in her previous body that had taught Shade’s master.
“Do not expect me to coddle you, Bartholomew, I haven’t the talent for it.” answered the old lady, her face in a frown.
“I’m leaving you, and this forest. I’m going back to teaching Shade… back in the city, where I am needed.” Bartholomew answered, looking at Dante, who was in her desk, “But tell me something…”
“I think you should go.” an odd smile entered Dante’s face.
“Did you ever… did you ever love anyone other than yourself, Dante?” his voice sounded somewhat like it was breaking. Dante opened her eyes that had been closed the whole time and turned to Bartholomew.
“Why should I love any human being? They are all ignorant, egotistical things beyond any redemption. Once they’ve learned how to use gunpowder, they thought only about waging war… If they ever discovered the secrets in the Magical Community, what a horrible tragedy that would be.” Dante told Bartholomew.
“Don’t forget that I am a human being, Dante, and that you are too!” Bartholomew yelled at his master, his hands clenched together. The flashback ended with Dante’s eyes closed once more and simply showing Bartholomew an evil smile.
“There was one name that was never to be spoken in front of her.” Shade’s teacher told him, “That name was Van Hohenheim.” Shade gasped when he heard this.
“My grandfather?” Shade asked in shock, walking to Bartholomew when he moved a paper to Shade on the desk.
“Yes. This is the only useful thing I’ve found.” Shade walked over and took the paper into his hands. After reading, his face flourished with slight red, “It’s a love letter, from Hohenheim to Dante, years ago.” Shade hit the paper back on the desk.
”That’s impossible! That lady had to be… eighty years old or something!” he estimated in his claim.
“Well that’s not the only odd thing about the letter… look at the date.” Bartholomew continued. Shade looked at the bottom of the paper and saw ‘1600 A.D.’ written on it.
“So what do you make of all of this?” Shade asked, looking out one of the windows nearby.
“I don’t know. Perhaps the names are just a coincidence.”
“Maybe so, or maybe she’s been the one controlling the homunculi.”
“That’s quite a leap, but if that is the case… are you prepared?”
Outside Dante’s manor, Shade was looking at Bartholomew, “I’m sorry I wasn’t much help; I couldn’t even provide something to stop that Wrath. But I need to tell you that he knows about his past, and since my former wife was sacrificed, he’ll cling to anyone as their mother, so be careful.” explained Bartholomew.
“No, it’s okay. I think I learned all that I need.” Shade said with a smile to his teacher. He answered with a slightly sad smile and closed his eyes. This signaled that Shade should leave now, which he did.
Toph was still going through the Magus Bazaar on the giant rock, but smashing into stuff and getting the rock hit sometimes by Lai Di attacks.
“Toph, you’re running into tents!” Jake yelled at her.
“You know what? You be blind and drive a ROCK! It’s not even attached to anything on the ground, so I have to guess!” answered Toph in anger back to Jake. Florence got an idea and pulled out her bow and an arrow.
“What do you have planned, Florence?” wondered Jake, turning to see this.
“Oh, you’ll see.” she answered, closing her bad eye out of the two and aiming at a stand. The arrow was shot and it hit an almost empty can that rolled on the ground. Florence held onto the arrow because she had a rope at the end of it.
“Thanks, Florence!” Toph thanked her friend. Being able to see due to the vibrations of Florence, attached to the rope which was on the ground, Toph no longer ran into objects and knew when Lai Di agents tried to attack so that she could counter-attack.
“Are these guys coming out of no where!?” the dragon called out, turning his arms dragon-like and shooting multiple fireballs at Lai Di members that tried to attack them from roofs.
“They’re spirit people… so I guess so!” replied Florence as she pulled out her bomb bag and combined them with her arrows for her signature explosive arrows. However, once Florence wasn’t watching the can on the arrow, a Lai Di agent shot a white ray at the rope and Toph couldn’t see once more. This resulted in Toph guessing where to go and continued to go straight, until they hit a wall and the rock eroded into multiple rocks, due to the many attacks that hit it.
“Ow.” Jake groaned, rubbing his head with his hand that was now in human form.
“At least I can see normally.” muttered Toph, looking at some of the Lai Di who surrounded them. She simply stomped the ground and made a rock slab come from the ground and shoot them all into buildings.
“We should be able to go the rest of the way on foot.” Flo added, pointing to the nearby military building and ran that direction. Before running with them, Toph turned to a large staircase where some of the Lai Di were going up and she ‘karate-chopped’ the ground to make the stairs close down and three large boulders rolling down the slope where the Lai Di was falling.
“Almost there.” Jake murmured, turning full dragon and holding Florence with one hand while flying higher. Toph used her earth to make the ground behind her shoot up, resulting in shockwaves that hurled her forward at the same speed as Jake. The large, military capitol was only feet away now…
While the three heroes began their ‘attack’ at the military building, the Emperor walked into his private study and pulled down a wall light, making a bookcase open and reveal a secret elevator. After getting in, he pulled off his eye patch and looked forward as the elevator went down. When it opened, he was in a new area where Dante took.
“Thank you for your hard work, Emperor.” Dante said to Pride, watching him bow and then stand straight while walking closer to Dante.
“You know, there are no legends of the green crystal in the north. Even if we provoked them, no one there will know how to make it.” explained Pride to his master and stopped walking to Dante after a while.
“It doesn’t matter, our only intentions this time are to cover our tracks.” answered the leader of the homunculi, “Your soldiers will not be spared, Pride. Anyone who has come near the green crystal will die.” Pride’s expression turned to a ‘glare’ at Dante.
“So it’s not just that person trying to hide out in the military?”
“Of course.” Dante tilted her head very slightly to the left, “Anyone who had any kind of connection with Kabuto Yakushi will be killed in action. Envy will see to it.” finished Dante as she moved her head back to normal. A noise from one of the doors could be heard and Envy appeared from it.
“Are you talking about me?” added the homunculus, walking toward his master with a grin on his face.
“Envy, didn’t I tell you to head north, where the military is having their ‘war’?” asked Dante to Envy, her arms still crossed.
“I heard he’d be here.” Envy told Dante, being cut off from walking by Pride’s right arm.
“Don’t be rude, Envy!”
“Get out of my way, you puppet!” Pride groaned a little at this quip from Envy.
“Don’t insult my work, Envy. A homunculus who can age like a human is hardly a puppet; he’s my greatest masterpiece.” explained Dante as Envy went away from Pride and looked at his master.
“Where is he!?” he barked, making Dante close her eyes to look as if she was squinting.
“Who, precisely, is he?”
“Don’t play dumb, you know who I mean! The man who made me, like you made Greed, Pride, and Gluttony!” answered Envy, who gave Dante an evil look.
“Oh yes… you mean Hohenheim.”
“He came here, I know he did, so where is he!?” Envy quickly yelled after Dante’s comment.
“Missing your father? I’m touched.” taunted Pride, looking away. Envy gave Pride a roundhouse kick to send him flying across the floor and he tried to punch Pride while he was on the ground.
“Tell me where he is, NOW!”
“He’s dead.” Dante simply answered, watching Envy stop trying to punch at Pride.
“He’s not! He can’t be dead yet… I’m going to kill him myself.” said Envy angrily.
“I broke the union of his soul, his mind, and his body. He’s as good as dead.” finished Dante, still in the same spot as she watched Envy speed away from Pride, letting him get on his feet.
“No! Why didn’t you tell me!? It was for me to do, me, me, me!” yelled Envy as he hit the ground. With each punch, the ground eroded down a lot and dust flew from the hole Envy was creating.
“Of course, his grandson is still alive, you know.” Dante told him.
“It was for me!” Envy’s voice started breaking in a slight ‘crying’ tone.
“He has the green crystal with him, but of course, you already knew that.” added Dante, giving him a little grin.
“They have the crystal? Are you sure?” Envy suddenly stopped punching the floor and looked up a little, but not enough to be looking Dante directly in the face.
“Positive, and if things continue the way he wants everything will be returned to normal, while you, Hohenheim’s oldest son, got nothing.” Dante said to Envy, brushing her left hand through some of her hair on the left side of her head. Slowly, Envy stood to his feet.
“No, it won’t be normal again,” Envy muttered, “I want to witness him lose everything…” Dante grinned at Envy’s evil glare at nothing and turned to Pride as after and then back at Envy.

Well, um, that's some interesting pointers there. Shade was interested in learning about Old Lady. *pokes you* Ahahaha. And he read a love letter. Awww, but poor Van Hohemstickleface that Shade hated is as good as dead. Hope we find out how later. Waha. I mean, of course. He loved an old ladehhhh. WHICH WAS YOU?! You oldie person with rotting flesh. XP ANDDDD hmmmmm, I see the slight action. Nice to see at least some in such an... interesting chapter. Looks like the Lai Di came back. Wouldn't know why exactly since I'm slow, but sure. [: Although, I did wonder what happened to Josh when 'they' went to visit Bartholomew. Maybe he disappeared!? Ahahaaaa... Lotsa talking in dialoguey mabobs. I guess that's what makes it interesting. With all that chitty chatty bang bang. WAHAHA. I sound stupid. I'm not in school anyway. Comes to show that people lose brain cells when they don't go. STOP LAUGHING. *throws a pie at you* It's blueberry. Now, I am off. xD
Shade and Josh were now walking at the border of a forest at nighttime.
“Hey, why are we near a forest?” Josh decided to ask, looking up to Shade.
“In case we get seen and we can hide in the woods.” he answered, not turning down to look at Josh, who sighed a little. The crystals that surrounded his body glowed and moved his cloak a little.
“The crystals are telling me about death, and soon…” muttered the elf, sadly looking up at Shade who turned and looked at the crystal, making Shade sigh.
“I felt the same thing too.” Shade answered, looking away for a moment before a black spur shot and vanished into the woods. He gasped and darted into the woods. If you were to slow down time, the black dart was Lust running with a watery mass shooting next to her, being Sloth, and headed to a building in the middle of the forest with Wrath standing in front of it.
“Good, Lust. I’m surprised that you’re not acting out again.” Sloth muttered, making her head appear from the water following Lust, who simply scoffed at her comment. Once they got to Wrath, they ran inside while Sloth retained her normal form.
“Josh!” called out Shade into the factory building they ran into. Judging by the weapons on the machinery, this was an abandoned gun factory. Lust appeared from the side, holding a squirming Josh.
“Calm down, I’m on your side…” Lust muttered with a smile on her face.
“I don’t trust you.” he muttered, but then Lust sighed and let go of Josh, making him run over next to Shade.
“It could be a trick…” answered Josh, glaring at Lust, making her chuckle a little with her elbows being held in her hands.
“Fine, believe what you want. But I know our master has no intention of making us human… so I was going to ask you two.” Lust’s voice trailed off and before Shade could answer, Wrath stomped into the area.
“Traitor!” Wrath yelled, pushing his right hand to the floor, making a steel sword of his arm. Lust simply turned around and slashed at Wrath’s gut with her right fingers shot out as lances. Sloth appeared behind Josh and Shade, making them turn around.
“I think Lust can handle Wrath.” Shade muttered, looking at Sloth and then darted his hands forward to freeze her arms.
“Wind Blaze!” yelled Josh, jumping into the air and making his cloak float open a little and shoot multiple air slashes at Josh, smashing her into a crate and making some gun powder cover her, “I’ll stay here, you go help Lust!” Shade nodded and ran over.
“You’re not going to be a human either, Wrath!” she told him in between slashes.
“Pftah, you think I care? I can easily make myself human in my own way!” Wrath answered with a grin. From behind, Shade yelled out as he began to jab his right index and middle fingers to Wrath’s arm that was covered by the rock. For a moment, he shrouded his fingers in ice to shoot through the rock and then hit the arm pressure point to stop the movement in Wrath’s right arm.
“Heh, so pressure points really do work on homunculi too.” laughed Shade as he let out a smirk and jabbed at Wrath’s spine, making him fall over, “And that’s a new pressure point I learned.”
“And Sloth?” Lust asked Shade.
“We were able to beat her, but you should go check to make sure.” Lust nodded and ran over, leaving Shade with a mumbling Wrath. He was on his gut, so he couldn’t be heard with his mouth on the ground. The blue dragon chuckled and started dragging him to where Lust ran to.
“Are you kidding!? $50 for this book!?” a young man barked at the store clerk.
“I bumped the price twice, take it or leave it!” the clerk answered. The young man groaned and threw the book back on a table. He walked back to his group that included him and two girls.
“Kevin, we won’t be able to afford dinner if you spend all our $50 here.” the older of the two girls told the young man named Kevin.
“Raffi’s right, and we’re not going to be stupid about spending our money.” the youngest of the whole group said with her arms crossed.
“But Raffi, Ash, this book is AWESOME!” Kevin said, holding it in front of them after running back to grab the book and shoving it in Ash’s face. This made her growl to herself a little.
(A/N: Hee hee, I love these moments. XDD)
“He’s going to come up with some kind of plan, huh?” Raffi muttered, her eyebrows turning a shape of being sad. Kevin grinned at Raffi, making her groan.
“I think we can take the identities of people who would be ‘famous’ here.” Kevin told himself, “So since I have ice, I can be a Shade, and Raffi, you can be my Florence.”
“This better not be implying anything.” Raffi groaned at Kevin, “Plus, what about Ash?” she moved her head to the girl.
“Well… she is a bit mannish, SHE CAN BE JAKE!” screeched out Kevin, making Ash flare and turn red. She clapped her hands and made a few bookcases fall on top of him. Raffi started laughing hysterically at this and then helped Kevin to his feet when the bookcases were back up.
“So, we need this book now.” Raffi told the clerk, handing her the same book after everyone tried to look like who they were copying.
“Price still stands as $50.” he glared at them, mostly Kevin.
“You’re pricing it for us? Do you know who we are?” Kevin asked, giving him an interesting look.
“Um… no.” he muttered in response.
“Shade! The Frozen Dragon? Florence, previously Huntslass, and then Jake Long, THE American Dragon!” Of course, this plan will go wrong because these people and Josh are wanted. The clerk gasped and then next thing the military of Magus Bazaar swarmed in and captured them all.
“What did you do?” Raffi looked down and sighed.
“This is your fault.” Ash glared at Kevin again, who simply grinned.
“You’re just mad because I called you a MAN.” he emphasized on his insult to Ash, who growled at Kevin some more. Raffi simply sighed again and looked at them both angrily.
“I worked on the array you told me about that you saw in Dante’s mansion.” Josh told Shade, looking up at him once he got into the area.
“And where did Sloth go?”
“She’s still there.” he pointed to the puddle of Sloth with the gunpowder over her. Shade raised his right arm and moved his hand down a little once, freezing Sloth over.
“Let me help now…” Shade muttered to Josh, encasing his index fingernail with sharp ice and helped carve the marking with the little wind elf.
“Wrath’s out again!” called out Lust once Shade and Josh had finished the array on the floor. Making sure Sloth was still frozen, they ran over to the area to find Lust on the ground with Wrath out of sight.
“He tricked us!” realized Josh, knowing Wrath was now unfreezing Sloth.
“We know that they’ll come back, so let’s get our plan ready…” began Lust in the conversation as they started talking to each other and planning what to do once the homunculi returned.
“I have you now, Lust!” Wrath yelled when he got to where Lust was standing by herself and Wrath grabbed her, “Now, Mommy!” Wrath called out to Sloth, who was behind the boxes that made an arch.
“Now!” Shade yelled, running out from a concealed corner and made an ‘ice bride’ on the boxes of the arch so that he could fly over the open part of the archway. He sped on the ice and controlled it to keep him on as he got to the top of the archway and stopped.
“How gullible…” Lust taunted at Wrath, slashing his arm and ducking. Once she got out of the way of Wrath, Shade was able to control Sloth to turn into her hydro form and shot the water over Wrath and encased him in a block of ice.
“Go!” Josh called out last. Shade shot from the ice on his feet to the cube from the front as Lust and Josh attacked from his left and right. Once the three ‘heroes’ shattered Wrath and Sloth and they stood back up, Wrath chased after Lust, Sloth and Josh brawled, and Shade was starting to make the second array that trapped the homunculi.
“Done! I’d better do this quickly…” he began and then his voice trailed off when he held the remains of his grandma that he unburied when they got in New York in his hands and sighed. Shade shot to his feet and darted to the battle where Sloth was hitting Josh with barrages of water whips and Josh countered with his wind slices.
“You chose a bad location for battle!” Shade was able to yell at Sloth with a grin.
“I know what to do!” Josh grinned and blew to the ground to make him fly to the ceiling and holding onto the paneling. Shade was staring down Sloth until a smirk went onto his face and he moved his arms up a little as if he was weight lifting and then punched straight into the air. Behind him was a large water mass rising from what seemed like a lake in the forest. The frozen dragon darted his arms forward as if he was pushing a crate and the water crashed through the building and shattered the glass of the windows.
“No!” cried Sloth as she watched the water quickly covering the building, mixing with Sloth and making the crates float to the top of the water that was now very high from the ground. Standing on top of the water, Shade pulled out the box with Sloth’s ashes and dropped them into the water. As soon as the water went down, Sloth, in her water form, was stunned on the spot right in the middle of the homunculus-stun array that was carved into the floor.
“We should finish the job.” Shade was able to muster to Josh, who landed next to him and nodded. Water that remained on the ground as a puddle was controlled and covered his right arm like a sword while Josh simply whipped wind through his hand that was shaped like a cup and created a ‘wind sword’.
Lust continued to slash at Wrath as much as she could.
“You know, know matter how many times you attack me, I’ll come back.” Wrath gave Lust an evil look, running to a machine and attacking many guns to his left arm. The woman homunculus ran behind a group of boxes when Wrath started firing at her.
“And YOU forget that I am immortal as well!” called out Lust as she sped from the corner and tried to dodge as many shots as she could before slashing all of the guns fused on Wrath’s arm.
“What!?” groaned the homunculus, seeing his messed up arm. Wrath turned to Lust and saw her with a sinister smile and many bullets that shot into her coming out of her skin and pinging to the floor.
“With each time I kill you, you lose one of your green stones, so I’ll have to keep slashing until you are nothing…” muttered Lust as she let the lances in her fingers increase in size as she tried to kill Wrath, making sure he wouldn’t fuse with anything either to fight back.
Meanwhile, Shade was simply looking down at the lifeless puddle that was once Sloth with tears streaming down his face. The ice sword that finished the homunculus was melted over his arm and on the ground.
“Shade…” Josh muttered, looking at his friend with a sad face. He just closed his eyes and contained his tears after they were expunged from his face.
“It’s okay… it’s okay…” his meek voice slowly trailed off after that comment. Behind him and Josh was a familiar figure with long, brown hair watching them while half-hiding behind a pillar. She just smiled at them…
“Soon you will be dead.” Lust taunted to Wrath in a calm tone. Wrath was eventually crawling backwards on the ground until he looked down to see something and grinned.
“You just walked into your demise…” he evilly muttered and put his hands to the homunculus array he was out of. Lust gasped and tried to run out of the array, but she was stuck. Shooting to her knees and hands, she started expelling green stones from her mouth, much like Greed when he was confronted by Dante.
“Is this how it ends…?” she asked herself quietly, making sure Wrath wasn’t able to hear. He was busy anyway, morphing a stone to his arm to make a sword.
“Well… you got your wish… to die, like humans do.” muttered Wrath, standing to Lust’s left.
“This is why I want to be a human? To… die?” Lust asked no-one-in-particular as she continued to look at the ground.
“Humans live only to die, that is what I believe. It may not be why you want to be human, but you are going to die.” answered the child homunculus, looking down at Lust. Without a change in his unusual serious tone, his arm slowly raised. Next thing, Lust was laying down as a lifeless corpse now.
Locked up in a cell, Kevin, Raffi, and Ash all sighed as they were on the ground.
“You just HAD to get a book, didn’t you?” complained Ash to Kevin, still giving him a glare.
“I still say you’re mad about the whole man comment…” Kevin glared out of the cell to the green lights that shined on the stony floor.
“You must have known better, though, Kevin. But I guess we didn’t know they were fugitives…” Raffi added to the argument, looking down sadly.
“Lighten up a little, Raffi!” the guy tried to cheer up Raffi with a big smile, but Raffi gave him a look like, ‘you are scaring me, give Ash that look’. And of course, Kevin turned to Ash and did that.
“Go away.” she simply answered in one statement.
“But I was just trying to--” at that moment, Ash’s fist was bursting into Kevin’s face. They all turned to the bars of their cell and saw three people standing in front of them. Raffi, Ash, and Kevin immediately shot to their feet with serious faces and in a battle stance. The three worried that these would be the people to bring them to their punishment, which was most likely death.
“I think you can calm down.” the middle-height ‘soldier’ told them.
“We aren’t enemies or executioners…” the tallest of the three soldiers replied right after the first soldier.
“However, we are part of the help.” the final and smallest soldier said. With their hats in the way, it confused Ash, Kevin, and Raffi enough to back them down from battle phase. The three soldiers slowly lifted their heads so that their smiles could be seen and then their faces.
“Jake, Florence, and Toph are here to help.” the three heroes answered with a smile on their face. Locked in the cell, the group of quarrelers gasped happily and got smiles on their own faces.
I like this chapter. XP Just comment, and for those of you who don’t follow the story well, RAFFI RAFFI RAFFI RAFFI, Greed, Sloth, and Lust are now all dead, leaving Envy, Gluttony, Pride, and Wrath as the only living homunculi.

Haha, I do too. And I think I caught the part with Lust dying when you said she was LAYING DOWN AS A LIFELESS CORPSE. But sure, I guess I didn't pay attention to Greed and Sloth as much. So thanks anyway. XD So, uhm, lesee... I guess now I can see how the Kevin, Raffi, and Ash part was funny. I think the actual Ash would be mad, too; if I was Kevin giving her those manly remarks. And fwee! The same people came to the rescue! Aside from... Toph. Cos Shadey pants is gone off with Josh doing homunculus business. Fwa! Mmm, lotsa action. I love it. Well, of course. Humor, Action, Mystery... HA HA HA. And other stuff too. Nice. I sound stupid. Maybe cos I... always do. And cos I'm drugged. XP And hey, I would pay fifty bucks for a book too. I mean, c'mon. Forget dinner. I'd go anorexic for all I care. Anyway, as you were. Thanks for the HINT HINT HINT HINT. Although it makes me feel retarded... xD

yay a reply. i hate telling myself that i'll read something and never get around too it. XD
... Jake Long, huh? That's nice Ewan, that's nice. XD; Oh well, Kevin got OWNEDDDD. Betch. *pimp smack* XDD I swear ... You're totally basing this off the FMA series. Cause like, that one part with the cell and stuff, that's from the posers Elric dudes and then ... Yeahhh ... XD; But it's still awesome. :D
Well now… here’s chapter 10. I need better stuff up here.
Chapter 10: Escape of the Military
“How did you know to find us here?” Raffi asked as the three started opening their cage.
“While we were walking by the building, we overheard the Emperor hearing about how ‘Shade and the others’ got captured and said what they looked like. Hearing that you would get executed, we rushed down here.” explained Florence, getting the chains of their wrists now.
“We’re just lucky that the Lai Di vanished when we got into the building. It’s best to simply go undercover at times instead of just barging through in battle.” the blind elf added.
“I think we need to get out of here.” Kevin quickly muttered, hearing a loud alarm from above. Florence pulled out a bomb arrow and smashed a wall that they ran through. Kevin pulled out his sword, Raffi controlled moisture in the air to freeze on the back of her hand for a back-up attack, and Jake had fireballs ready in his hands.
“We have to be careful. The Emperor has probably already warned the whole building that we’ve escaped.” Raffi muttered. As they turned the corner they saw darkness, but behind them was a dead-end. Obvious, the path where they came from would have the soldiers there, looking for them.
“Toph, you’re going to have to lead, and Jake, you have to put out your fire.” Florence suggested. Toph nodded and walked ahead while Jake put out the flames in his hands.
“Everybody take the back of each person’s shirts with your free hand.” Toph told them as she slowly led them into the darkness. After walking into the next room of the dark, Toph immediately stopped, “I don’t know how to explain this, but there’s a presence in the room, have your weapons ready!”
“Right.” they added. Toph got into a battle stance and slowly kept walking until they walked into another room and Toph stopped after a while of walking in the room.
“This room is very large, and we’re on the second floor now, not the basement. I think we’ve walked into a--” the little elf voice cut off when blinding lights shined on them and they were surrounded by military men, armed and aiming at them.
“Good, you’re all here. You have made yourselves enemies of the state. Eliminate them at once.” Pride declared as he was blocking the door that they had just entered from.
Shade let out a deep sigh and turned around when he heard the footsteps of a brunette: it was Florence!
(A/N: No, this isn’t Florence, for people who get confused by my fan-fics, RAFFI, RAFFI, RAFFI, RAFFI. XD)
Shade was most likely to notice that this wasn’t Florence, mostly by his crooked eyebrows.
“You’re not Florence,” Shade immediately answered before ‘Florence’ could say anything, “I know my own girlfriend.” The brunette simply put her hands on the back of her head and sighed.
“Very perceptive, but you really don’t know who I am.” she muttered, with a serious face, but one eye winking at Shade in a bored way.
“Stand back, Josh.” Shade took a few steps ahead of his elf friend with his left hand gesturing to not move. However, this strange person was so fast that they were already behind Shade and gripping onto Josh’s arm and lifting him into the air. Josh was groaning and struggling in this person’s hand.
“Hey! Let me go!” he complained, rocking back and forth violently. What was believed to be Florence changed ‘her’ shape into a rarely seen homunculus, Envy. His Oroboros tattoo that distinguished him was on his left thigh.
“Another homunculus…” murmured the frozen dragon as his hands curled up into a fist. Envy let out a sly chuckle.
“Don’t even try, you’ll be shot down!” Envy threatened, brushing his free hand through his unruly hair. Shade controlled a puddle of water into his hand and froze it into many little icicles. They got shot at the homunculus and cut through a few of his hair strands, but missed other than that.
“Ack, I missed!” groaned Shade to the side. Envy turned away and chuckled. Shade ran to the homunculus holding the grunting Josh, but he simply kicked Shade into a box full of gunpowder. Once Shade got out of the dust, they were gone.
“MOMMY!” a shrill voice echoed through the already broken warehouse as Wrath ran onto the scene, crying out, “What happened to mommy!?” Shade looked down and sighed once he had gotten to his feet. Wrath did nothing at that point but yelled again and charged at Shade.
“Enough!” barked a stern voice that caused a shockwave of ice to pass by and froze Wrath’s arms to the large ice attack that was stuck on the ground. Bartholomew walked onto the scene and looked at his creation.
“What do you want, I have nothing to do with you.” groaned Wrath as he started to grit his teeth. The boy didn’t let anyone answer after his statement and sped away in anger/confusion. Shade slowly changed his look to Bartholomew.
“I… think it’s about time you tell me about Wrath.” he slowly was able to mumble to his dragon master. Bartholomew simply nodded and walked in front of Shade.
“About ten years ago, my beautiful wife and I had our first child. However, he was sick from a genetic disease and then died during infancy. We were both very sorrowful and one day left to try and bring him back after discovering that we could try, by summoning the Mirror of Spirits. Once we went through the ritual, my wife and parts of my blood and skin were taken as a sacrifice…” his voice trailed off and he showed Shade large scars all over his arms and Shade now understood the large scar that ran down Bartholomew’s right cheek.
“Our child was brought back, but it wasn’t our little baby boy… it was a monster! What he is now: a homunculus. I had no choice but to return his back through the Mirror so that he would stay at the Twilight, but I didn’t know that he would slowly age and become the Wrath you know today.” as his story finished, Shade slowly looked down.
“I have to confront the leader of the homunculi… I know once there, I can save Josh and try to stop this menace.” Shade slowly told his dragon master, who simply nodded in response.
“Your clue has to start at the Magus Bazaar, where your friends are. I’m sure that one of them knows a clue to getting to the master.” Bartholomew explained. Shade looked around slowly.
“Hey, do you remember seeing another homunculus here; she was on our side of the battle against Sloth and Wrath.” the blue dragon asked. He simply shook his head, so Shade turned past a crate of boxes and saw the second homunculus array with the ashes of Lust there. With a sigh, Shade had no choice but to now go alone.
Having escaped from the battle, Ash went her own way to find something through Kabuto’s drawers.
“There has to be something here…” she muttered, going through a cabinet of files and pulled out each folder she found, tossing the useless ones aside. Once Ash believed that she found something interesting in a secret compartment that had notes sketched on it and it was shoved in her pocket.
“I’ve got to get this to someone…” Ash told herself, looking around and using her dragon arm to slash through a window and then hopped out of it into a courtyard and turned into a full dragon. As soon as she was in this form, she started to fly away and watched the sun slowly descending.
Surrounded, the group of ‘fugitives’ looked at the soldiers.
“Think that we can take them?” Kevin nervously asked the others, all five of them obviously having sweat drop from the back of their heads.
“It won’t matter…” a general on one side of the room muttered slowly. Shockingly, the soldiers from that side started shooting at the other side and not hitting the group of good guys. The general and another soldier pulled all five of them to their side as a large quarrel started between the two sides. Pride was simply watching and allowing the bullets to easily bypass him because any bullets that went his way were deflected by another bullet.
“Don’t worry, everyone knows about Pride. The other side is only safe to the state because they are unaware or unsure about what to side on.” the general told them. His hat was pulled off and he showed to be Spud, his other soldier being Trixie.
“We still have to battle, though.” Raffi muttered and chuckled a little slyly. The ice from water she had on her arm was shot and two soldiers on the other side fell as she was able to control a few of the soldiers to drop their weapons, run into each other, and then slam into the wall before collapsing.
“Kevin, I’ve got an idea,” Jake told Kevin, “hold out your sword.” he pulled out his glistening blade and watched Jake blow fire all over it to make it a flaming sword, while Kevin could use his powers individually from his sword swings.
“Thanks, Jake!” he said with a grin, speeding out onto the fray. Ice was used to block bullets and he slashed at as many soldiers as he could once he got close enough. When he had gotten too close, Kevin put on a heavy, ice armor that was able to deflect all of the bullets going his way. No one could shoot him in the eye because anyone that close would have already gotten sliced by Kevin’s sword.
Florence was the craftiest in the battle. She was able to use her bombs to make smoke-screens, so that the people would fire at the smoke because they would think people are hiding there. This chance gives an opening, so this is when Florence is able to shoot her arrows at the people who are shooting the smoke.
The most damage must have gone to Toph because of her ease to shoot people with rocks from distances and then run up to them and simply destroy them in a rocky finish. Jake stayed in the back and shot fireballs/shot fire from his breath on the soldiers.
“This would be the best time for you to leave and see if Ash got that information.” Jake told his two friends while flinging two fireballs into the battle. Spud and Trixie nodded before leaving and getting their hats back on.
Walking through the streets of the magical place, Spud and Trixie finally caught up with Ash, who was sitting on a bench, out of breath. They took off their military hats so that they didn’t look like enemies.
“Ash, we found Shade and we told him where we were going to meet him, do you have the notes?” Trixie asked before Spud said anything. Ash nodded and pulled out the note as quickly as she could, which wasn’t that long, surprisingly because she was still out of breath.
“Are you okay staying here?” wondered Spud, in case the people after her were nearby.
“Nah… I think… I stopped them… after crushing them… under some bricks… then I ran… a lot…” Ash panted and let out a little, evil grin. Spud and Trixie exchanged glances and shrugged before leaving.
Shade was sneaking on the side of a building and looked past a wall he was sliding on. He noticed that there were many soldiers, so he had no choice but to fight his was through.
“Is this place all clear?” one soldier asked a different one. The other soldier seemed to struggle as he nodded in response, “Alright then…” he muttered curiously. Half of the soldiers were now gone. The only reason the soldier nodded was because Shade had controlled him and now decided to come out and attack them after a little bit of waiting.
“Hey there!” called out Shade, getting all of the soldier’s attention. He laughed a little and waved his hands about a little, making ice shoot out from the ground and covered a few of the men in the ice and stuck in place.
“Get him, he’s wanted for a lot of money!” a soldier called out. They all pulled out various sharp weapons, such as daggers and spears. Shade chuckled a little and shoot both arms behind him. Water that was moisture in the air formed and he whipped them at the soldiers when he could. Once he had to freeze the water and use it like throwing knives, Shade stole the water from a few bushes and attacked many soldiers, causing them to fall as he froze them on the spot.
“We can still get him!” there was still a generally good sum of men remaining to capture Shade. A second chuckle escaped his lips and he took a side-step before unleashing his penultimate attack. He blew cold air all around him and solidified it into a more snow-like substance. Surprisingly, each attack was very powerful and dealt a large blow.
“Just a few more left…” Shade whispered to himself. He decided to turn into his dragon form and started scratching at a few of the soldiers. Shade was also able to increase the speed of his flight by freezing his wings and controlling them so quickly, that when he rammed into people, they flew quite far. The last man went down and Shade unfroze his wings. With no time to spare, Shade flew off and away.
Now, Shade was in an alley that had no people around. He pushed open the large church doors of the building that was now in front of him and he saw Spud and Trixie boredly waiting for him to arrive.
“Ah, there you are!” Trixie said and they both got to their feet as Shade walked over to them. They pulled out the note Ash gave them and handed it to Shade.
“It’s part of a journal from Kabuto’s father, explaining everything that you need to know now.” explained Spud. Shade opened it up and read it silently, gasping after he read it.
(A/N: Remember that Shade still doesn’t know Kabuto is dead and everyone’s still trying to keep it a secret.)
“And you’d better leave, now.” quickly added Trixie, walking to the main area of the church and waiting for Spud and Shade to come over. Placing his hands on the large statue, Shade focused and encased it in ice. After, he controlled it to shatter into multiple pieces that slowly melted.
“I… I guess I’ll see you all later.” Shade told his two friends, forcing a smile that quickly went away when he turned back to the tunnel that was now apparent once the statue was gone. Without any second thought, Shade slowly entered the dark passageway that was now ahead of him. Spud and Trixie quickly ran over and watched him.
“Just come back… Just come back alive!” yelled Spud as he and Trixie watched the figure of Shade until it was gone. After walking through a scene with water and stone statues broken and messed up, Shade went down more and more stairs. Once he had finally gotten to the bottom, he saw a horrific sight: a place that looked just like the Magus Bazaar, only with an older look.
“I can’t believe it… they were all sacrificed for the green crystal, and once their lives had been used up, the whole city was buried underground with an immense power…” whispered Shade to himself a little, “Only monsters could come up with a plan like that…”
Shade’s expression quickly turned to anger, “Are you in here, grandpa!? You did this, didn’t you; you planned the whole thing! Tell me!!” he called out with his voice echoing through the ghost town.
The echo of Shade’s yell rang through Elaine’s ears. She was sitting on a couch with her baby brother, but her eyes seemed very different. Her pupils were dilated and huge. Gluttony, with a mumbling and sad tone, walked toward Elaine and sniffed her.
“No, Gluttony, you’ve had lunch.” an eerie voice told the homunculus. Dante, being the one who told him, walked into the area as Gluttony whimpered and ran off. After a little walking, Dante sat down next to Elaine, with a little smile as she looked at her, “Why must I always remind him that you’re too important to eat?” Elaine sat still and it was clear that she was hypnotized.
“Exquisite…” Dante murmured as she brushed her hand across the ends of Elaine’s hair and looking at her facial features, “No wonder Shade loves you so much. He does, you know, and you love him, too.”
“Will someone tell me what happened to my Lust?” complained Gluttony as he started to shake a table and the candle on it fell off.
“I don’t know, maybe she’s lost.” suggested Dante to her creation. She turned back to Elaine, “Now we must make sure to wear our finest dresses, I want everything to be perfect for him.” A knock came from a door.
“He’s here.” Envy’s voice said. This caused Dante to get a sly smile on her face.
“My, my, sooner than I thought.” she walked with Envy into a new room and saw Wrath speeding out from a door, “What now?” Wrath was sobbing and crying and ran into Envy’s chest.
“Get off of me!” groaned Envy to the other homunculus.
“What is he doing here; I clearly told you I wanted Wrath to keep track of Shade.” Dante told Envy with a serious look on her face.
“It’s not my fault that he can’t follow orders.” Envy muttered with an odd grin on his face.
“Please, master, I need the crystal now!” whined Wrath as he rocked Envy back and forth.
“Wrath, if you can’t behave properly then you’ll have to remain a homunculus.” Dante explained to Wrath with a smile on her face that faded when Wrath said another statement.
“There’s no time! My mommy, mommy’s gonna die!” Envy’s arm was blocking the crying Wrath who was still struggling.
“Mommy?” wondered the master with a puzzled face.
“I don’t know, I think he’s talking about Sloth.” answered Envy as she pushed Wrath off of him with his arm.
“Don’t be ridiculous, Sloth isn’t your mother. Homunculi do not have mothers, understood?” but after Dante said this, Wrath shot up again and cried out more.
“No, please, I need it to revive her!”
“You’re not a human, Wrath, stop acting like one!” Dante told Wrath, now with an angered tone.
“Mommy, mommy!...” Wrath continued to cry out, causing Dante to lose patience. She let out an annoyed sigh.
“Envy?” she asked, making Envy push Wrath vigorously forward and he walked close to Wrath when he got up, kicking him when Wrath ran over to him.
“Please!” Wrath called out one more time. After smacking a door, Wrath was about to fuse his arm with something on the floor, but let out a yelp when Envy stood on Wrath’s arm. Dante simply watched while Envy continued to beat up Wrath.
“We can make it out of here if we can get past the door Pride is guarding.” Kevin explained to the little group. They were behind a rock slab to avoid being in the line of fire. But they turned and saw the Pride was done and the door was very slightly open.
“He’s trying to escape!” Toph called out. She could still feel his vibrations in the building. Kevin, Toph, Jake, and Raffi ran out of the door Pride had tried to escape from, Kevin leading the way.
“Is he nearby?” Jake asked as they were running through the one hall.
“Yes, he’s on the left of us in the hall and past the door when you keep going straight.” Toph explained as they turned left at the point Toph told them about. Being close to the door, everyone got a weapon or attack ready.
“There’s a huge lock on it!” Kevin called out when they got to the door and stopped.
“I’m on it!” Jake answered, raising one of his hands and made a small fireball. He chucked it at the door and it slowly singed on the metal door, but Jake made everyone step back when he controlled the fire to expand and explode the door. They all ran through and made it into an outside room, a large courtyard with only the tile as a path and grass. The courtyard was very, very large.
“Give up, we know that you’re a homunculus!” Raffi challenged to Pride.
“And you’re outnumbered, we can beat you easily.” Kevin glared at the homunculus and aimed his sword at him. Pride let out a little chuckle at them and took off his eye patch, revealing his homunculus tattoo on his right eye.
“I have the Ultimate Eye, I could defeat you all if I wanted to… but I’d rather watch your downfall.” Pride said with an evil look on his face, “There are a few people looking for you…” he moves his right hand up and from the buildings around them, Lai Di agents surrounded the place, but only four went down. Pride took a few steps back, as the fight would start soon.
“This is going to be harder than I though…” Jake muttered, turning into his dragon form. Everyone else got into a tough battle stance.
Shade was walking at the side of the silent city until he heard waltz music. It was coming from a giant and elegant building. He turned into his dragon form and went to the door and opened it in his human form. Once he saw the inside, he noticed it was a giant ball room. Suddenly, Elaine, in a different dress, came out from a side and started dancing alone, as if she didn’t notice Shade was there. Her dress was a very light yellow and white color and it seemed like the style was from a long time ago. After a while of dancing, Shade stopped watching her in a trance-like way.
“Elaine?” once Shade asked this, Elaine stopped dancing when her back was to him and then she turned to look at Shade with a normal expression on her face.
“Shade…?” she asked slowly and then her face turned into a nice smile, “I’ve been waiting for you.” Elaine took Shade’s hands and started dancing with him. He wasn’t stopping her, so he decided to talk while dancing with her.
“Uh, Elaine, what are you doing here?” he asked her.
“I’ve been waiting, for you… for us. Shade, I love you.” Elaine told him, moving off of Shade’s shoulder and looking at him. Shade immediately blushed and mumbled a little. But suddenly, he remembered why he was here and backed away a little and the dance was cut off.
“Look Elaine, I don’t… I don’t think you realized what you’ve just said to me… we’re… we’re just friends. I--” Shade stopped and Elaine’s eyes moved up a little when a baby’s cry could be heard. Behind Shade was Dante, holding onto Elaine’s baby brother.
“My brother…” she muttered slowly, running over and holding the baby that was once in Dante’s arms and let out a calming sigh. Dante was wearing a dress like Elaine’s because it seemed to be the same general style, but her dress was a hot pink with white and purple. A half veil was covering the left side of her hair.
(A/N: Pretty dress Dante, Raffi! XD)
“You couldn’t give her one little dance? Seeing as how she’s been waiting for you ever since she came into hiding? You’re despicable…” Dante muttered when she looked at Shade.
“Lyla, why’d you bring Elaine to this place?” he asked Dante. She answered while walking closer to Shade and stopped when she was straight ahead from his location.
“Before Dante died, she told me about a city that only old dragons knew about; it sounded safe.” Dante told him.
“I know you said before that Dante had been murdered, but you were often vague and you never told me who or why.” Shade continued to glare at Dante.
“That homunculus named Greed killed him; I could’ve sworn I told you that.” Dante replied.
“You’re lying to me.”
“The array at Dante’s mansion was designed specifically to drain a homunculi’s power and the human remains that were Greed’s weakness were laid out in the same room. Even if you wanted to, Greed couldn’t have made a move against you.” Shade explained and Dante let out a little laugh at her first statement,
“That’s all very interesting, but I saw her corpse with my own eyes.” she told Shade.
“That proves nothing except that the body she was squatting in could no longer serve its purpose.”
“What?” laughed Dante in false confusion.
“Let’s say that the green crystal could be used to jump from one body to another; that would make a human capable of living for hundreds of years. I think Dante faked her death and used the crystal to take over a younger body. A body like yours would be the perfect fit.” Shade explained and Dante lowered her look and closed her eyes.
“Shade, stop it, it’s not true!” Dante cried out when she opened her eyes again. Shade did nothing but hit his right hand to the floor, which made a clapping echo. This made Dante gasp and shoot back a little. Shade pulled out an ice javelin from the ground and chucked it at Dante. She glared at the attack and swung her right arm up. Blue light and electricity surrounded the ice and it suddenly vanished. Once Dante lowered her hand from her face, she slowly said, “That was too close.”
“When did you get that power? The real Lyla would have turned into her dragon form and tried to fly away, and she never had powers like that. Your secret’s up, Dante.” Shade simply said. A small smile covered Dante’s face.
“When did you find out… fair grandson of Hohenheim?”
“So it’s all true.”
“Indeed, every last word.” Dante said firmly.
“So how many times have you jumped bodies?” Shade asked her.
“Well, in 400 years, you can lose count. It’s less than 10, after all I had to use the green crystal each time.” Dante told him.
“And that’s what happened to this city, lives for the crystal.” Shade noted.
“Don’t forget the fabled lost city in the east, that earthquake was something much more different than an earthquake,” added Dante, “but I’m not the one who made them happen.”
“No, it was Van Hohenheim.” added the blue dragon with his fists clenched.
“You say it so formally, why don’t you just call him grandpa?”
“Did he live this way too, stealing bodies, creating wars… but for what purpose?” Shade quickly got out of his calm tone.
“Because we were worth it.” Dante simply told him.
“What the heck is that supposed to mean, you ruined thousands of lives, each time to create the green crystal, and you take it yourself so you can live longer. You actually think that’s justified?”
“Humans can’t handle the crystal.” Dante said.
“Right,” Shade answered sarcastically, “so you have the mercy to take it from them… the grace to kill anyone who was involved so only the legend remains.”
“I’m glad you understand so well. Humans are controlled by their sins and the green crystal has power far greater than any other weapon ever forged. So I’ve taken sinnings, humans would destroy the world. The lives have been necessary martyrs, saving man-kind from itself, I am the guardian, the shepherd of sins. I have to live on to prevent your humans from doing something foolish with the crystal.” Dante explained in a long way.
“Don’t kid yourself, you’re a human, just like us!” yelled Shade at Dante, who turned her face into a really serious one.
“Lust!” Gluttony called out as he pushed through a door. He got the attention of Shade and Dante with this entrance. As Gluttony continued to whimper and cry out for Lust, Dante walked over to Elaine.
“You’re breaking my heart, Shade, talking to me this way. I was looking forward to taking her body and being loved by the grandson of Hohenheim.” Dante was hugging Elaine’s hypnotized head.
“So it’s Elaine this time, huh?”
“Yes. I have to celebrate the newly-born crystal.” Dante said while watching Shade.
“What have you done with Josh?” Shade asked Dante forcefully, but she gave him a devious smile.
“No, no, what have you done with Lust!?” cried out Gluttony some more.
“Why don’t you ask HIM, Gluttony?” suggested Dante.
“Where’s my Lust!? Gluttony shot to Shade. Shade covered his right arm in heavy ice and held it out so that when Gluttony was holding onto Shade’s arm with his mouth, it wouldn’t hurt, “Where’s Lust?” he continued to ask with his mouth on Shade’s arm.
“Look, I’m sorry, but she’s gone.” Shade told the fat homunculus sympathetically.
“Lust gone? Lust gone?” asked Gluttony with confusion and shock. Sweat was covering his forehead.
“Yeah… Wrath killed her. She died trying to help me.” he answered. Gluttony let go of Shade’s arm, so he unfroze it. Gluttony started wobbling about until he fell down into a sitting position.
“Gluttony, stop this.” Dante told her creation.
“I can’t…” Gluttony moaned.
“You don’t have feelings.” Dante told him again, but he got up and started walking away, moaning Lust’s name. Dante scowled as he left and let go of Elaine.
“Let’s do it!” Shade yelled once he turned back to Dante, who was now pretty far from Elaine. As he charged at Dante, he breathed ice over his right hand and made it into a little sword. Dante clasped her hands together and a rock serpent monster rose from the floor and tried to bite Shade. When it tried to bite him, he hopped up on the back of the serpent and charged at Dante, who gasped. Shade’s attack shot at Dante’s chest and when the clothing was ripped, you could see the rotting that consumed her skin.
“I knew it your soul can’t sustain bodies anymore; it’s been attached too many times. Karma, Dante.” Shade told her.
“Karma? The thought that if you do something good, good will follow?” Dante said in an annoyed tone as she used her powers to fix the rip in her clothing.
“Of course, everyone knows what karma is, and it’s true.” Shade said in response.
“Karma is a naïve theory that is in no way true. It’s simply a trick to get people to act nice to each other and make children obey the rules.: Dante explained.
“That’s incorrect, people work hard and they get their reward in turn because they turn in equal work and get equal reward.” Shade added in response.
“Wrong.” Dante immediately said, making Shade gasp a little, “People work because they BELIEVE it will pay, but equal effort does not always mean equal gain.”
“Like what?” Shade asked worriedly, bringing a scary smile on Dante’s lips.
“Let’s say the value of every person’s life…” began the evil woman, putting her hands together. The serpent that had its head in the floor got up and snatched Elaine’s brother by its mouth and made Elaine fall down. The baby suddenly started to cry while in the mouth of the beast and Shade gasped, “If I just make another move, this baby won’t survive.”
“Stop it!” Shade yelled, but Dante ignored him and she gave him a scary smile.
“And if I do it, where’s the world’s balance in that? Does it mean that the baby was only born so that it could die? It’s doing all an infant can to survive: breathing, crying for help, but what does it get in exchange? People can say there is a balance, a logic that everything happens for a reason, but the truth is far less desired. No matter how hard you work, when you die, you die. Some spend their entire lives trying to scratch their way to the top and still die in poverty, while others are born into wealth without ever working at all. It’s a cruel and random world, and yet the chaos is all so beautiful…” Dante told Shade in her long speech while he was gritting his teeth.
“That’s enough, Dante!” he yelled at her. He froze the entire serpent (not including the baby) and shattered it. As the baby fell, Shade caught him before he hit the floor.
“My brother…” Elaine muttered, walking over to Shade and taking her baby brother, hugging him.
“Karma is a myth, a contrived order to give sense to a world that has none. Can you accept that now, or do you need another demonstration?” Dante said while Shade glared at her.
“Don’t use a child to fuel your agenda!” Shade yelled at her, making Dante laugh a little bit.
“Your grandpa said that too.” Shade gasped and turned to the baby that was still crying. He saw the mark on the baby shine and the next thing he knew, he was standing in front of the Mirror of Spirits with the light shining on him. Shade saw himself slowly being pixilated into the mirror and started yelling, trying to maintain his form and not be sucked into the mirror, but he eventually got completely pixilated and was gone through the mirror.

LONNNNG CHAPTER. Like wow, really long. But that's what you get for basing it off FMA, a long chapter at points and a short one here and there. AHAHAHAHA. WHERE'S MY LUST? So Gluttony. Like for real man, FOR REAL. XD But like yeah, tis still awesome.
“Nah… I think… I stopped them… after crushing them… under some bricks… then I ran… a lot…” Ash panted and let out a little, evil grin. Spud and Trixie exchanged glances and shrugged before leaving. ^Oh lawd, that makes me laugh so hard. XD
I honestly didn't know you had it in you to write a lengthy chapter!! I was expecting that this would take me about five minutes to read, but wow!
It continued to develop the story well. The side parts with Gluttony and the rest of the group are probably where the story shines the most, as it is at this point the story is the most emotionally grabbing. The action is good as well, as is the dialogue, at least most of it. At times I am not COMPLETELY into the prolific use of dialogue, and on the other side of the spectrum the low use of non-dialogue parts, but for the most part it works.

Eep! Longish chapter! Ewan-cakes has surpassed the unevitable! XP Anyways. WOWZAH nice chapter; you're right, it WAS full of humor in action, IN THAT ORDER! Yesss... unlike me, yous good at making promises on yer fan fics.
Anyway, I like the way Shade's scene began. It's like, you know for a fact that Florence is with the others (mostly moi!) but then it's like you see her... again! But... you don't?! Bizarre-oo. XP Thanks for the 'hint,' EWAN EWAN EWAN EWAN. :]
I like how things are coming together, cos like at first, it was all some huge mystery, especially to retarded ol' me. And now, we (or mostly I) know some or maybe most of the things that was like total... bizarreness on the beginning chapters.
I totally enjoyed how you gave us 'fugitives' the chance to be in a scene. Gives it... the actiony touch, doncha think? ;] It's nice how you included me, Kevin, and Ash into a captivating scene along with some of the mainies, along with the best thing Ewan can write- action! And ohh yeaahh... Shade still dunno Kabuto dead. I'd feel bad for him if he found out 'bouts him. BWAHAHA. Though, it's obvious that he will eventually. I almost forgetted. Thanketh... thou. ;]
The last paragraph WAS longy. Which was good! Tis my favorite with slight Shade/Elaine and the dancing. But I would feel awkward too if a boy suddenly took my hands and started dancing and told me he loved me. Though, I wouldn't tell him to stop, cos a real man knows how to take their ladeh and grooveeee! x]
I feel bad for Elaine's brother, though. He always crying and nothing else! Well, maybe sleeping, or I don't know. ANDD as you would expect, I AM a bit confused HAHA. I dunno... Though I do sorta get the most part of things, especially since there was a bit of 'summarizing' going on between Dante and Shade. PRETTY DRESS LADY, EWAN! Yay! ...I think. Don't make her eat me! I mean, 'possess' over my body and killing me in the process. D:
Well, DUH I lyk lurved the action. It always seems to blend in with your stories in the chapters anyway which I can't seem to do. Especially since action is my WORST genre, even if I love it so much. It's like, action in my fics/stories only happens during the opportune moments that don't come along too often. Hah, I don't even know what I'm talking about...
Now, anyway, I think I've gone on long enough. Sorry if it sounded pointless, maybe, but if you excuse me, I will now be on my way to Cindy's house for some Asian food and quality time with her baby sister. :]
Everyone’s happy on my long chapter. I NEED TO DO IT MORE OFTEN. But I’m more of a guy with more chapters than longer chapters, since I want more… length in my page, since less people have started reading it. But I digress.
Chapter 11: End
“This can’t be good.” Jake groaned as he looked at the Lai Di agents.
“You know, they gained some extra powers when they came into the human world, if you hadn’t noticed.” Pride explained to them.
“What do you mean?” asked Kevin, ready to attack someone at any time.
“The Lai Di comes from the Spirit World and they only had that one power there. But here, with the humans, they gained physical maintenance of their bodies. You see, spirits aren’t easily defeated, but they lack the brute force and power that many people in the human world have. Once they joined us, they gave up their immortality for power.” Pride moved his hand forward a little as a sign for the Lai Di.
“Look out!” Toph pointed to one of the people, who was controlling earth to rise up and shoot at them.
“I don’t think we had this planned.” muttered Raffi, running to the side of the cobblestone path and controlling the water that was in the grass. She sent it at a Lai Di agent, but he shot a white laser beam at it and the water turned into steam.
“You’re gonna need more water power.” Jake told Raffi, clapping his hands together to spark a flame and then flicked a little ball of fire at a Lai Di agent from his thumb. As it moved to the enemy, it expanded to a huge ball of fire, but the agent ducked and hit the fire with his hat. The fire was stopped because his hat was coated in earth.
“Stupid Lai Di agents and their funky hats.” groaned Kevin, pulling out his sword and starting a battle with one of the agents. Raffi looked up into the sky and saw a storm rolling in.
“Toph, give me cover!” she yelled at Toph. She ran over to Raffi and started shooting rocks at the Lai Di that were on the roof near the courtyard that they were fighting in. Raffi’s arms shot up and she was controlling the dark clouds to slowly roll out onto the battle area. With another dart of hand movements, a bolt of thunder struck and rain started pouring.
“Thanks, Raffi!” Kevin called out to her. With each slash of his sword, he used his powers to freeze the raindrops and pelt the Lai Di agent. This weakened the guard of the agent and allowed Kevin to attack easily.
“Let’s make it pour so that it floods this whole place.” muttered the water controller with a sly little grin. A white laser going her direction got stopped by Raffi controlling some rain to make an ice shield by moving both hands out in front of it. The ice barrier shattered after the attack and Raffi made the rain pour even harder, causing great chance for a flash flood in the area, mainly the courtyard.
“I’ll keep the doors shut.” Toph said to Raffi. She shot her hand in a forward motion and two shockwaves went and controlled the metal door to ‘fuse’ with the sides of the wall. On the door behind her, Toph simply covered it with a thick layer of rock.
“Roof patrol, tight guard!” Pride told the Lai Di surrounding the courtyard from the roofs.
“He’s going to guard something.” muttered the American Dragon with realization when A few Lai Di agents helped Pride go to the roof and he walked away. Jake shot into his dragon form and flew into the air. Kevin’s sword slashed with an earth weapon being held by a Lai Di agent and the weapon flew off of his hands.
“You think you two can fight the Lai Di and stall Pride while we see if we can find anything in his office?” Kevin asked the two ladies behind him. Before letting them answer, he turned into his dragon form and flew into the air, but they both nodded anyway. Once he left, Toph and Raffi realized that the water was now at their knees.
“Better get to the roof, I can’t swim.” the blind elf told Raffi, controlling the cobblestone path to shoot her into the air. She shot some rocks that were on the roof on some of the Lai Di so that she wouldn’t immediately be attacked once she got on the roof.
“I’ll keep fighting the Lai Di and you try to hold Pride off!” Raffi called out to Toph. Running past the Lai Di agents, Toph was able to catch up to the homunculus, who glared at her before they began to battle on the roof.
Raffi was still in the courtyard with the rising water. It was now up to her waist, but of course, it didn’t bother her. She heard the water running off the roofs and looked around the roof on her right.
“Maybe I can get these guys all down here…” Raffi thought. She controlled the water in the grass under the water covering it to raise the flood in the courtyard. Then, she controlled the water that was flooding down from the roof to make all of the Lai Di slip and splash into the water, making it rise even more. Using the water to push her up, Raffi landed on the roof and froze all the Lai Di agents that were in the water. One or two others were able to escape and Raffi went after them.
Jake and Kevin were almost off the roof area and turned back to see where Pride was, but he was still watching the Lai Di, Raffi, and Toph battling.
“When we find the main door for Pride’s office, I’ll break through.” Kevin told Jake, his sword still in both hands as he flew toward a large part of the military area.
“This place is way too large, I think that there would be at least more soldiers or Lai Di agents.” realized Jake as he flew closer to Kevin to explain this.
“I don’t think so…” began the icy dragon, “Half of the soldiers have actually sided with us and since that happened, they need help with their battle.”
“I wonder how their battle is going anyway…” muttered Jake with his tone slowly going down.
“Then Pride needed the Lai Di to keep us all busy because he’d think that it would be enough to stall us so that we would fight while he keeps the object that can kill him hidden.” Kevin finished and landed when he got to the largest door of the whole area. He slashed at the door to open it and they got ready to fight any resistance, but no one was in here.
“We’re in luck, we’d better hurry.” Jake told Kevin, who nodded and they started to fly a little above the ground while they continued along through the pathway to get to Pride’s office.
“What do you think that the remains of him will be?” wondered Kevin as they made it to the hallway where Pride’s door was at the end of the hall. Jake’s foot was covered with fire and he kicked the door open with force before making the flames vanish from his leg.
But almost all of the room was covered by s large wall made of thick ice and military officers had surrounded the place once Kevin and Jake had opened the door of Pride’s office…
Toph stared at Pride for a while before they began to talk.
“So, are you ready to fight a homunculus?” Pride asked Toph in a stern tone with his hands still behind his back. It was strange how he was balanced on the roof and Toph had to cover a lot of the roof in rock.
“No, I’m ready to beat a homunculus.” replied the blind elf. She turned to the right side of the roof and shot up some rocks. Toph shaped them into stalactites and shot them at Pride. He ducked and pushed the rocks up with his right arm. The other hand pulled off his eye patch.
“You forget that I have the Ultimate Eye.” Pride took a deep breath in and pulled out his fencing sword. Trying to swing at Toph, he lunged in her direction. She shot a rock up to made her safe, and when she landed, she slowly started to erode the walls.
“Now!” yelled Toph. She jumped into the air and crashed the roof when all of the walls were messed up. The homunculus fell through the paneling and got buried under the rubble, making Toph grin at where he fell, “Wait a minute…” the vibrations Toph felt showed that Pride was no longer in the rubble. Shooting behind her, Toph punched the figure behind her, being Pride.
“Very clever, not many can manipulate my quick speed…” he congratulated to her, “But can you beat this?” Pride’s arms shot into the air, but Toph did the same and they clashed fists, causing Pride’s dark energy to blast the roof and made them fly in two different directions.
Shade awoke and took a deep breath as well a taking a moment to look at his surroundings. It looked like a normal house, but it was all dark for some odd reason. He rubbed his eyes to make sure there wasn’t something wrong.
“What’s happening? Why is everything dark?” he asked himself. Once he fully regained consciousness, Shade turned to the door that bolted open, revealing Hohenheim.
“Shade!? How on earth did you get here?” the old man was shocked when he saw Shade on the other side of the door.
“Uh… I dunno… how did you get here?” Shade replied in question, but Hohenheim simply shook his head.
“There’s no time, I’ll tell you later.” his hand darted and he grabbed his grandson’s arm and sped out of the dark house. Outside, you could see a familiar sight: darkness everywhere, pixels flying about, yellow ‘sunlight’, and multiple dark figures. Shade started running with his grandfather in a direction away from the house he had just left.
“This place is too familiar, where are we!?” yelled the blue dragon to his grandpa over all of the screaming.
“I knew that you’d find this place familiar… This is where you originated from, the place where you are a prince.” Hohenheim explained as they continued to run. This made Shade gasp and his eyes widen.
“The Twilight Realm…” he looked at his arms again before running ahead and looking at Hohenheim again, “But why have we maintained our human forms? Aren’t we supposed to reveal the Twilight versions of ourselves?” Shade, of course, was referring to the new version of Dark Shade.
“You saw the Mirror of Spirits, correct?” Hohenheim asked Shade, who nodded, “Well, once the mirror was moved from its old location with the Spirit Sages, Dante somehow found it and was able to beat the sages. Once she was able to defeat them, Dante was able to find a way to reconnect the Twilight Realm with this world once more and found out about its secret that is connected to young children. With this, she sent us to the Twilight Realm. We’ve only maintained our human forms because of the sudden usurp Dante caused when she changed the mirror.”
“Okay, that explains that… what about why we’re running?” another question was formed from Shade. Hohenheim simply pointed to the opposite side of town.
“This part of the Twilight Realm has changed ever since I left. All towns are being attacked by other towns, even the ones that don’t have any warriors, like this one. If we can get far enough, we’ll be safe and I’ll find a way to return you home.” he answered to his grandchild.
“But what are--” the young man cut himself off when he saw a giant, black beam headed toward the town. However, it wasn’t just an attack; it was a bunch of Twili monsters that were using their powers to form a dark-powered shield as they ran.
“Yeah…” Hohenheim told Shade as they kept running. They were in the middle of the running group that had fled that town. The giant Twili monsters had started rampaging through the town now and you could hear their roaring and the destruction of the buildings in town.
“You can hear it all the way from here.” Shade’s heart slowly fell as he felt that this was his fault, mainly because he was the prince of this whole realm, yet most of it had fallen under chaos.
“Don’t worry, we should be safe soon and then we’ll get you out of here.” his grandfather told him once more. They picked up their pace and started running faster.
(A/N: I’m pretty sure Hohenheim’s past is confusing, so let me explain it:
He was born and raised in the Twilight Realm (which was a long time ago, since he and Dante are both over 400) until he realized he had to leave the Twilight. Once out, he met Dante and everything occurred between them. Hohenheim eventually realized that he couldn’t keep helping Dante make the green crystal and ran to a place that he assumed Dante didn’t know about: The Twilight Realm. Surprised by all the changes, Hohenheim fell into love again with a woman from the Twilight. As soon as they got married, Hohenheim convinced his new wife that the Twilight Realm was now a terrible place and they both escaped (so it was Hohenheim’s second escape). Hohenheim eventually left his second wife (Shade’s grandma) because he didn’t want her to see his slowly aging body but he didn’t go back to the Twilight Realm because he believed something bad would soon occur (which it did, with the whole Zant thing). But there might be more than this, you’ll probably find out. So far, there you have it. XP)
Raffi immediately turned around when she heard the crash that Toph and Pride had created. She controlled some water in the rain to whip the two Lai Di agents in front of her off the roof and onto the hard ground. Once doing this, she shot around again and ran to where Toph had landed.
“Are you okay?” Raffi helped Toph up. She nodded and rubbed her head as Raffi helped her to her feet. They turned to where Pride had landed and he got up as well, but he seemed to have made a costume change from the military uniform he usually wore. A long sword was in his right hand and he shot at the two ladies.
“Look out!” yelled Toph, pushing Raffi out of the way and raising an earth barrier. Pride simply smashed through it and began chasing Toph. Once Raffi got back to following Toph, she controlled rain water to form into a big water line and she used it to tie around the hand Pride wasn’t holding his sword in.
“Let go!” he demanded, but Raffi kept glaring at him. Toph tossed rocks from the rubble of the building at Pride while he was contained, but Pride slashed at the rocks going his direction.
“Ah!” Toph gasped, but started speeding at Pride on a large rock. Another water stream covered Pride’s other arm, but he used his Ultimate Eye to shoot a beam at the water on his sword hand. It caused steam to rise and he did the same with the other water around his second arm. The mass of steam made Toph miss her attack on Pride, but she knew that the homunculus had moved to the inside of the building area.
“What way?” the water controller asked Toph.
“That way,” she pointed, “but I don’t think that we’re gonna get very far in this battle without some help.” finished Toph. Raffi nodded and they jumped over the pile of rubble, still trying to chase Pride.
Kevin and Jake were still in Pride’s frozen office.
“Kevin, Pride knew we would be here, there’s bound to be soldiers outside. What are we supposed to do?” Jake asked Kevin in a worried tone. Kevin carefully looked around at the ice.
“I don’t know how they could harness the powers of ice, but I think that I have an idea.” Kevin answered. He turned into his dragon form and started scratching at the ice to break through it until destroyed most of the ice.
“There’s a chest!” called out Jake, pointing at it and grabbing it. Kevin nodded and made a big gape in the remaining ice wall. They both stood in the small area and Kevin threw an ice dart at the window, making it shatter.
“And there’s the diversion…” Kevin muttered. His arm shot up and he raised ice over the opening in the ice. Once the window crashed, soldiers shot into Pride’s office. They didn’t see Kevin and Jake hidden in the ice.
“Where did they go?” wondered one of the soldiers. The soldiers closed Pride’s large doors and left the room. As soon as they were gone, Kevin and Jake burst through the ice and out of the window that Kevin shattered.
“Come on, we have to find Raffi and Toph before it’s too late.” Jake told Kevin. He nodded and they started flying to the courtyard where they had left Raffi and Toph to fight the Lai Di.
After a long time of running, Shade, Hohenheim, and the other Twili creatures were in a new, safe town.
“Well, how are you going to bring me back to Dante?” Shade asked Hohenheim, making sure there were no Twili beasts nearby.
“I have Twilight powers that can help you through the mirror again.” answered the old man.
“How are you going to do that?” the blue dragon wondered, but Hohenheim shook his head to him once more.
“You’ll find out when the time is right…” began Hohenheim, but he realized that he heard a roar from far off, “And I’d better get you there quickly.” His hand shot out in front of him and the giant Mirror of Spirits rose up from the ground.
“You can control the Mirror?” Shade asked his grandfather.
“Only on this side of it. Once you beat Dante, I want you to put the Mirror back into the heavens and make sure you give the sages more help.” explained Hohenheim in an answer. He raised his arm again and his sleeve rolled up a bit, revealing some of his rotting flesh.
“Just like Dante…” Shade gave Hohenheim’s arm a sad look, “That’s why he left us.” Once Hohenheim moved his arm to the mirror, it lit up and shined on Shade. He turned into lots of pixels and flew into the mirror.
Back at the underground city, Dante had set up the green crystal (still fused with Josh) on the ground with a complicated array around it. She was next to Elaine and holding her baby brother while Envy was standing across from them.
“Uh…” Josh struggled as he laid in the array, but couldn’t move at all. Envy grinned down at the little wind elf.
“Where’s Gluttony, we need him to eat the green crystal so that it can fuse with the lives he’s eaten and make a perfect crystal.” Dante asked her main homunculus minion. Envy looked around and saw Gluttony walk in through a door.
“Right on cue…” Envy muttered. Gluttony was still complaining about Lust, “Hey, Gluttony, buddy, why don’t you go over there and eat that little green crystal, eh?”
“Uh… Lust…” he complained, holding his head as he wobbled about in place.
“Look, stupid thing, eat that crystal!” Envy pointed at Josh, who groaned a little bit in fear.
“Now, now, Envy.” Dante said to the homunculus and walked over to Gluttony, “You poor thing, come here.” she took Gluttony’s face with her left hand and stroking his cheek.
“Hmm…” complained Gluttony, watching Dante as she comforted him. Suddenly, Dante reached into Gluttony’s mouth and pulled out his tongue. His Oroboros mark started glowing white and then vanished.
“Huh?” Envy wondered. Dante moved out of the way while Envy tried to look at Gluttony’s face, but he shot to Envy and gave him an evil look.
“Careful, Envy. Getting rid of his homunculus mark turned him into a mindless monster, he only wants to eat.” explained the creepy woman. Dante walked back next to Elaine, who had been holding her baby brother for a while now. Gluttony began walking towards Josh, making him worry even more. Suddenly, a large rumbling shook the room and Gluttony stopped moving.
“What’s happening!?” called out Envy, turning around. The Mirror of Spirits had suddenly appeared and pixels flew out. Once they formed, Shade appeared, holding his head in a strange way.
“What are you doing here!?” demanded Dante, glaring at him.
“Master, think about it: Shade needs water to battle or enough strength to conjure ice… in this state, killing him will be easy.” Envy cracked his fingers and sped at Shade. He put his hand off his head when he noticed Envy rushing at him.
“Whoa!” he yelled, shooting his hand forward and making Envy stop, “You homunculi may not have souls, but you are still filled with human objects, like blood.” Shade of course, was controlling the water in Envy’s bloodstream.
“You can’t keep me trapped like this!” Envy yelled. He broke through Shade’s powers and he realized that he’d have to have a one-on-one combat battle with Envy.
“I’m not useless without water!” called back the icy dragon. His index and middle finger jabbed at Envy’s right shoulder and his right arm stopped moving about. Shade turned to a group of flowers on a vase on a table.
“Huh, don’t even try!” the homunculus barked at Shade. Envy ran to the table and smashed the vase onto the floor.
“That didn’t help you at all.” Shade answered and controlled the water that was in the vase to get from the floor and whipped Envy across the face and into the ground. Once on the ground, Shade froze the water when it was around one of Envy’s legs.
“Ah!” he yelled once he hit the floor and the ice from left leg. Shade took the little bit of water from the flower and froze Envy’s right leg. Before Envy could break the ice with his left arm, Shade hit a pressure point on Envy’s arm so that he couldn’t move at all anymore.
“Now, I’ve been wondering who you really are, who you’re hiding behind that face.” the dragon told the homunculus, who just have Shade and evil look in return. He simply scowled back and punched Envy in the face, “Answer me!” he yelled.
“Envy,” began Dante as Shade stopped punching the homunculus, “was the first homunculus ever created, but I didn’t make him. My previous lover, Van Hohenheim, created Envy.” as Dante explained this and Shade was watching her, Envy began to change his face.
“Hohenheim…?” Shade asked, but then looked at Envy and stopped moving.
“Envy died of mercury poisoning, the first child of Hohenheim and me. This isn’t any old homunculus; this is your uncle, your own flesh and blood.” Dante taunted Shade and he was still stuck in place. Envy changed back into his usual face and stabbed straight through Shade with his arm, which was now a sword.
“Uh…” gasped Shade as Envy rolled him onto the floor as he was lying on his back.
“Shade…?” Josh gasped, watching the entire time. Elaine looked at Shade’s body now and her eyes slowly went back to normal and she escaped Dante’s hypnosis.
QWERTYkid911: It's 2021 and I've been thinking this show premise still has so much potential. It had a good run, but I feel like it never really lived up to how good it could be.
